  1. I don't disagree with any of this......I just understand why people believe otherwise. I also believe that leadership and culture matter, but we don't have a good understanding of it, or it's effects.
  2. Ah, well, sure, the right way. What is the "Right way"? It doesn't appear to be whatever this team is doing, so you'll forgive some of us if we pretty much doubt every move now. And hey, the goalposts are now 2018 until we should care, great......
  3. Who would that be? Buxton, Rosario, Park, Polanco, Maestro, Berrios, Duffey, Sano? All brand new..... The old guys that have never done it in their career? Who were they expecting to do that? Who was going to tell Plouffe, or Mauer, or Ervin or Hughes how to be, and lead them, other than 1 of them?
  4. While I don't agree 100% with the plan, I agree that I'd like to see a clear plan......... Personally, I'd like Polanco here, playing nearly every day, at all three non-1B infield positions. But, this manager refuses to do that (or the GM has told him not to, who knows). So, if this is the manager, then Polanco should be down, playing every day. I have no idea why anyone wants to see what Santana can do, he's approaching worst player in baseball again this year. I would not revolt if this happened, but to me it would be an admission that they completely bungled their scouting of their own players (or rushed them for other reasons). The flaw, imo, is posted above this. Does anyone really think they'll jettison 5+ veterans in August? I don't.
  5. Agreed, but there is luck. Timing of which pitchers you face, injuries to you and other teams, balls that are about 3 feet from an OF catching them......there is luck, imo, no matter how we think about it.
  6. I will say this........ I understand why people think this. They were terrible, Hunter came, they were good. Hunter left, now they are worse than terrible. Our brains are wired to think that there is causation there. But, those relationships in and of themselves are insufficient to show causation. The other thing I'll say is that people vastly underestimate the role of luck in outcomes over 162 games......and that last year it is clear they had lots of good luck, and this year they have had bad play and bad luck (though it is mostly bad play). If I had to guess, this is more about terrible team defense, utility guys in the lineup every day, and other issues much more than it is about culture. But, I do think there is a cultural issue. Not sitting there day to day, though? I have no idea if there is, or what it is.
  7. BS that they don't care about losing. Also BS that you can't smile when losing.
  8. I've said many times that I think leadership matters, but that it doesn't matter 4-10 games worth. If it did, Hunter and others would be much more wealthy and still employed. I thought someone else had posted all the times Hunter had come and gone from teams, and that this wasn't really a trend, but I can't recall where I saw that. I do think this team is lacking something in the culture. I'm not sure 1 person can fix that culture.....again, if he could, he'd be on a team someplace, and they'd have to pay him ginormous sums of money.
  9. Santana is approaching worst player in baseball status again....no idea why you'd bat him at all if you could avoid it, let alone 2nd
  10. Wait, the months are different here too?
  11. I just got to Oregon, and am confused by the timezone difference. Did we win yet?
  12. No, he made the same tactical errors last year as a manager, most of us gave him a pass because he had zero experience at it. zero. Being on a team is 100% not like running a team. edit: how long should he have to quit sacrifice bunting early in the game, or running for Sano late, or not PH for his worst hitters late, or all the other things we've been pointing out for 1+ years now?
  13. I love how even though the author showed they aren't young, with facts, people are still typing they are young. Just another myth, excuse, frankly.
  14. Well, someone misconstrued my statement....... they were pretty insistent on hiring Molitor, who had no experience. I'm not sure how anyone read that statement to think I meant a generic guy with no experience.
  15. Ah, thanks, with the move out of MN today, my brain is not fully functional....I forgot the Chargois news. Heh, I was never on the Palka promotion train, but I know others were. I had no issue starting Stewart at FTM, and I'd be ok with another start or two for him there. But, Gonsalves was good there last year, and is good there this year. It's just time.
  16. All fair, Seth. They have been aggressive with Berrios, why not the others? And, no, given their "success" lately, I don't fully trust them on this stuff. Hopefully they promote Gonsalves and Wade and Chargois (I don't think he's in AAA) soon. Then Stewart shortly after that. This is an area you and I have (politely) disagreed about on line for some time.....and I'm cool with that disagreement.
  17. wow, what a terrible straw man. No one is saying cut every non-prospect. But, we are saying, for a team that has developed almost no on in years, for a league that is getting younger and younger, maybe they should promote players faster. Pick the guys you don't want around in a year or two, and if they get bumped, they get bumped. but, don't keep doing things the terrible way you've been doing them for years.
  18. You can trade competitive balance picks, but no other picks. Stupid.
  19. Thanks for the awesome information.
  20. Antony also had the famous interview where he admitted knowing almost nothing about "advanced" stats.....IIRC
  21. Damnit. That's why I shouldn't type stuff on the tubes of internetedness......and, I guess, I will never be in the FO now.
  22. Seems to me the Yankees had plenty of success under that owner.....But your point stands.
