  1. Well, the Twins have, um, uh, no, no they don't (well, Buxton, I guess, but he can't hit at all). Twins are 2nd to last in DRS.....with Buxton playing quite a bit.
  2. this whole meme that the Cubs are only good because they have money and can ignore pitching in the draft is old. really. old. the Twins could have taken the money spent on three FAs, and bought one great one.....would you rather have a great one, or Hughes, Santana, and Nolasco right now? It is a matter of resource allocation. And, the Twins chose to choose HS guys....what if they had taken Trea Turner instead of Gordon? Same position, same draft, one is in the majors, one is not.
  3. What does Sano have to do at this point to earn a job? You know, besides be one of the better hitters in baseball?
  4. I would not be opposed to moving Sano to DH......but if you tender Plouffe, he's probably on the roster, meaning you probably lose Vargas, I'd guess. Not sure what either Plouffe or Vargas bring back in a trade....
  5. I use Twitter to follow AP News, to see if there is a headline I want to read. Oh, and to follow KLAW and beergraphs...that's about it.
  6. I think Plouffe is different: Mauer, Sano, Vargas, Park, Polanco, Dozier, Escobar, Plouffe.....even taking off Park...that's a lot of bodies. If you keep Plouffe, what do you do with Sano?
  7. there are people all over the site saying to literally just let Gibson walk. That, imo, is insane.
  8. If you move across the country, FB is about the only way to stay in touch....
  9. Ya, it's his fault he started against the Braves and was good... Look, there is no way you just cut Gibson at this point, as some are stating. That's insane. Give him a 1 year deal, and move on with your lives. I don't see the need for a multi year deal at this point, unless it is at a ridiculous discount. Santiago? I'd non-tender him instantly. If I can sign Milone to a cheapish deal, I do that, tell him he's the long reliever, and he gets spot starts when others can't...If he wants more than $5MM, I let him walk. Escobar? I'd probably keep him around at this point. He's not pricey at all. Pressley? sure, why not at that price? Kintzler? sure, if he'll sign for under $2MM, if he wants/gets around $5MM, too much for such an unproven player. I need my new GM and manager to be on the same page, if he falters, he's cut. That leaves Plouffe...... 1. Is Sano's arm really ok? 2. Can Polanco play 3B if/when needed? 3. If the answer to both is "yes", then I non-tender him. I like Plouffe. But, it is time to clear space for Sano to play 3B full time. 4. If I think Sano's arm issues are long term...and I might move him to 1B or DH, then I think I still maybe non-tender him, but it's more of a toss up to me.
  10. Failing early is one of the great secrets to successful companies, they limit their time and resources spent on bad ideas then. I'm not certain it totally applies to prospects, but it is why I'd rush them thru low A and high A, and have them spend more time in AA and AAA.
  11. Not once have I used the phrase Man Up, so please don't imply that in response to me. It's a BS phrase, we both know it. I also agree he should have stayed down last time......it's why I believe part of his failure so far is on the Twins FO and coaches. That's all the past now, so, What is a reasonable time line to judge the pick and their development of him?
  12. How is my statement revisionist? He's been considered one of the top 5 prospects in all of the game 3 of the last 4 years. He was a predicted RoY by many..... How is it unrealistic to expect him to hit better than this by now? And, if a reasonable timeline is "there is no timeline by which we can judge this pick", well, we'll just disagree on that.
  13. I was rebutting him being called putrid, and that he should be cut after this year. Nothing more or less than that.
  14. Back in my day....well, the world has changed. It is a younger man's game. What is a reasonable time line for the 2nd pick in the draft, who is considered by the Twins and most experts to be a great, great prospect, to be able to hit at all?
  15. pretty sure he's not eligible for the fall league at this point.
  16. Gibson has 8 starts where he has given up 4 or more runs, and 8 where he has given up 3 or less runs. that's not putrid. It just isn't. It would be foolish not to sign him for next year.
  17. By 4-5 weeks, you mean 2, right? There is no time left in AAA...
  18. Actually, there are many reports out there saying Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents ever... As for your scenario, I think saying it is is likely that Twins have a top 10 rotation is a bit off. I'll bet you any amount of money that doesn't happen, unless they trade for 1-2 different starters. I mean, your scenario is basically, "if everything goes right, they'll be really good". Isn't that pretty much true for every single team?
  19. I could trade Revere or Span for pitchers....the difference should be, we should expect the GM to be right more than I would be. Anyone on this board could have followed that process, the Twins followed it twice, and failed both times. As for the Span trade, John Bonnes did research, tall pitchers, other than 1, don't work out. The Twins didn't just roll the dice, they rolled 1 die, and tried to get a 7.
  20. If the number 6 pick in the draft is a RP.....that's not a good outcome for a team that won't pay huge money for FAs, so, I disagree with that being a good outcome. I have no idea how anyone can judge the pick based on this year, though. He was good, if not great, and he's in AA.
  21. the Cardinals have a voodoo pact going, you just can't compare them to the Twins at all. Or, maybe we should have higher expectations for the Twins, your call...
  22. I would have left him down A LOT longer the last time, so I understand your statement.
  23. Here is a list of people expecting him to be an MVP right now:
  24. You are arguing that years of drafting players and all the information they have on players...we should have zero expectations that the Twins can draft and develop early draft picks? I'm not sure I'm following.
  25. Well, on that last parapgrah, the Twins hardly ever moved a guy in the past until way too late (or not at all). It's a question some of the posters here have raised before. Taylor Rogers, for example.
