  1. If the number 2 ranked science major in all the US goes to college and gets a bunch of Ds, I'd think that is a failure on their part.
  2. what is a reasonable expectation for the number two overall pick?
  3. I almost went with...i hate you... But it was funny...
  4. Twins drafted him 2nd overall......not 20th. There should be an expectation that he's great. A team that won't sign expensive FAs can't afford to miss on those picks.
  5. Right, every team that is good is lucky or has an unfair advantage...that's really unfair to the people running that organization. the Twins have Buxton, the cubs have Bryant...the Cubs traded for Rizzo, as a matter of fact, we had a HUGE LONG list of people the Cubs traded for on a recent thread. This isn't luck, this is great execution of a sound plan. The Twins traded for three starting pitchers (May, Worley, Meyer) and have nothing....were they just unlucky? Whose fault is it they had NO assets to trade, if not their fault?
  6. Well, there are only a couple more weeks left in Rochester.....when you say plenty of time, you mean next year?
  7. Sigh. I'd like this for the update, but I can't bring myself to do that.
  8. I believe that is correct. I think Wade and Granite will both play in the majors.
  9. Jay is a top 10 LH pitching prospect, according to MLB....and is probably in most top 50-75 lists this off season I'd guess... So, I think Jay is in that list. And, I think there's another player shooting up the lists this year. The Twins have: Berrios Jay Romero Gonsalves Stewart Each of them could be a top 100 prospect this year...imo.* *Berrios will likely lose his prospect eligibility.
  10. Interesting take I had not considered before...
  11. I just don't see the Yankees trading Sanchez. He's a guy I've been hoping the Twins would target for a few years, especially when people were supposedly down on him for his "defense"... I'm also not sure, but it seems the Yankees are going to try to build from their minor league team. Now, if I was them, I'd use both FA and the minor league team....neither of which require a trade.
  12. Speed? To get him more at bats? Why not?
  13. Why DL Boshers before you have to, if it means you have to add Albers and DFA him then? Why not just keep Boshers on the roster 1 more day? Why not promote Light, if that was the plan? And, as my edit shows, I finally figured out the 25 man thing with Albers...
  14. so you weren't going to add him to the 25 man roster, and then decided to DFA him just a day or so later, like was reported? You weren't going to add Light, but then didn't? Why not wait, and handle it differently? Perhaps it was handled fine, and it's the reporting that is off? Either way, thanks for coming back here again. Appreciated. edit to add: I did say, IMO, but I guess I should have said something softer than I did. Also, handling something in the rules does not make something de facto handled well. The parts that confuse me, and apparently others, are above. Did the Twins decide to add Albers to the 25 man, then DFA him? If so, were they required to do that to send a 26th man back down, that seems unlikely to me. Were they going to call up Light, but then didn't because he missed a plane ride? Why was he not the right guy to call up 1 day later? How does one go from being the right call up, to not, in 1 day? Why did they call up a guy that doesn't pitch long outings, and not Wimmers? I think those are legit questions. But, maybe they aren't. Maybe everything about this series of transactions makes perfect sense. Perhaps they had to add Albers because you have to have 25 men on the roster? If they were going to promote Light, why not have him fly in at the same time as Albers? Either way, it's not like the reporting gave us much information to know the answers to these questions, and I beg forgiveness as someone that doesn't know every rule that maybe I just didn't get all the moving pieces.
  15. Well...the whole thing was, imo, badly handled. And now they've compounded it by still not calling up Light? I am not sure I understand the plan, but the plan does not appear to be "get some AAA pitchers up here we haven't seen, so our best pitching coach can see them and work with them".
  16. In looking at the top prospect lists.....not sure what team would want Dozier that has an elite SP available, frankly.
  17. good point, of course, the next GM has to listen to the right scouts, and get an actual good pitcher in return...
  18. but you are also freeing up that spot for Polanco (if you are a believer)...but yes, most of the time and every day player is more valuable (and safer) than a SP. But, if you want to get a very good to great SP, trading every day talent is one possible way.
  19. Well, different people value different things differently, as it were. We also don't know if consistency is more important or not. I'd like to know....but we don't have that data available as far as I know. But, I think your point is, "if he's not that good, he's not that valuable", and I agree with that equation (though I do think Dozier is good...).
  20. If Meyer comes back fast, and is great fast...then I have to wonder about the Twins' minor and major league coaching. If takes 2-3 years, or never happens, well, then whatevs.* *yes, I posted whatevs, sue me
  21. I cannot find any analysis of this on line...maybe I'll suggest it to some of the sites?
  22. Maybe I'll look at this tonight..... So, there are other stats that take into account leverage and win probability of every at bat..... Could you measure the value of a streaky player by looking at WAR/WPA or something like that? dozier is 17th in fWAR, but 80th in WPA/LI......does that tell us something? *I know, some of you just puked...
