  1. let's hope you are right, and they sign a huge FA (like they did back when they signed Jack Morris, also not under Ryan.....).
  2. Sign Buxton and Sano to large extensions would be my guess.
  3. Agreed, we have no idea. But you think the Twins outbid someone for a TOP FA? It's possible, is it likely?
  4. Or how the Twins will outbid the other teams.
  5. Next year, when the FA market is good, they will sign some good players, I assume, based on all these comments...
  6. I agree, and disagree. I think they are clearly doing that, but that doesn't preclude them making trades or signing FAs, imo.
  7. You expect the A's, Reds, or WS to give the Twins a top 10ish or better pitching prospect? I can't see that happening. The Reds will be rebuilding, the WS are in their division, and the As are unpredictable. I can see the Mets doing that, but they have Gavin Cecchini who should be up this year or next. I bet they roll with him.
  8. Gordon is the SS next year, don't care this year. it sounds like we agree Dozier needs to be traded, and yes, I have looked at De Leon, and yes, he makes me nervous......but Berrios makes me nervous, every prospect makes me nervous. But as either Theo or Friedman pointed out, if you are always rational, you always finish third in FA bidding (and, probably don't trade a lot either). At some point, you trust your scouts. I have no idea what the offer was, nor how they feel about De Leon, but if they think he's a legit 3, I do a 1:1, let alone whatever else was offered. My disappointment (that's the word, not anger, not "they are idiots") stems from 5 years of the Twins not trading (or badly trading) veterans during a rebuild, when every other team seems able to make those kinds of trades and speed up their rebuild.
  9. Again, how do you know you can get at least a top 10ish starting pitching prospect in the future?
  10. I'm responding to the posts, not to what the FO did. And, no, not acting can be out of fear. There are two sides (or more like 6-8) of what would cause someone to act, or not. You can be afraid to trade for a prospect because, as the poster said "they bust all the time", and want to keep the more proven MLB player. If that wasn't clear, I hope it is now.
  11. I'd argue the Twins absolutely need to trade Dozier, because he does nothing for this team this year that matters in terms of wins and losses, and he's only signed for 1 year beyond that. Also, he blocks Polanco, who will now play SS, a position they have not really let him play in the minors for some time now.....
  12. by this argument, why fire Ryan, if they are done rebuilding? I couldn't disagree more strongly. They have no 3B long term, no 1B, no C, 1 SP, and maybe 2-3 RP. Their LFer walks less than your average 90 year old. And that's assuming Buxton learns to hit, and Gordon and Polanco are legit every day players. I think we'll just disagree on this....which I'm cool with.
  13. Why take it at the deadline, if not now? And how do you know that? And fine, if you won't trade for a top 10ish pitching prospect, that is MLB ready, out of fear, you aren't making many trades. And, KLAW loves upside. Other sites have him ranked higher.
  14. I'm suggesting they have failed for the last 5 years to rebuild this team with any speed at all, compared to the Cubs and Astros, and probably the Phillies and Braves.
  15. If you won't trade for top 10 prospects out of fear, you won't make many trades....
  16. Bad teams refuse to trade Perkins, Dozier, ESan, et. al......
  17. How so? They won 59 last year, even if you think they were really a 65 win team, do you actually expect them to win 80+ this year? Dozier is signed for 2 more years, I'd bet a lot of money that this coming year is not a playoff year.....so what is Dozier really worth, in context of the overall team?
  18. Today, the FG prospect guy said he has a flat FB like Berrios......
  19. I'll take that bet, that someone overpays this summer. Assuming over pay is well more than a top 40-60 prospect.....like, that and another prospect in the top 100, which seems to be the price everyone here expects is fair...
  20. They haven't been signing FAs or trading prospects for a couple years, I have suggested them on Fangraphs and here, and most respond that A: they aren't competing this year maybe; B: they are acting differently now. but, I agree, they are a legit candidate when Castro struggles, and if they are in the race.
  21. David 1:58 Where do you see Dozier going now/at the deadline? Giants? Cardinals? Nats? Mets? Does any "likely" team have a prospect package that entices the Twins? Eric A Longenhagen 1:58 I think Minnesota waits for someone to get hurt so they can leverage that club. Of course, if Dozier starts slow....
  22. Not fair....what most posters realize is that you need A LOT of pitching prospects, some with ceilings, to end up with a good staff. One way to get those is to trade for them.....I think making assumptions about what most poster don't realize is probably a bad idea.
  23. We can all agree that we don't want them to be the AZ traders, that's true.
  24. see above.... "if you think he's a number 3/4"...you have to trust your scouts. Now, if that meant "if there is a 50% chance he's a 3", that's a different statement.
