  1. No chance I pass on elite talent for the small chance someone falls.
  2. Fair. I just have a REALLY hard time liking the roster not adding 1 young player to a 59 win team, and adding a bunch of mediocre veterans. All so something nebulous can maybe happen. And, while I like wins, I don't care about 78 vs 72 wins. I care about 2018 and beyond being good to great.
  3. your under the assumption: 1. Hughes will start. I'm not. 2. I should care about the success of anyone on the current SP staff, which I consider pretty much all placeholders at this point. IF Garver and Murphy aren't good at helping pitchers, do you want them catching Berrios and Gonsavles in AAA? If they are good at helping pitchers, don't you want one in the majors, so they are ready to help Berrios and others when they come up? Yes, they know more than I. Yes, a catcher will help these pitchers. But, ESan will be gone before this team is good. Gibson might be. Santiago will be, imo. Hughes will be a RP or hurt. I just can't get all that excited about helping THESE pitchers. Heck, the RP corps is pretty much guys that won't be here in 2 years either.....
  4. As I said yesterday, to what end? They appear to be going with a bunch of veterans. Who are they going to help develop the first half of the year? Also, if the young guys need so much help, and Murphy and Garver can't help them, how will Berrios and Gonsalves learn anything in AAA with such bad catching?
  5. Right, I have no issue with Castro being the starter right now, but I am wondering if there are any young guys that haven't already been in MN that will get a shot on a 59 win team.....it sure looks like not. That seems awfully hard to believe.
  6. Then do I care if Gimenez is here helping the pitchers? I still vote no.
  7. Legit question I am asking myself.....if Berrios is in AAA, and May is a RP, do I actually care about any of this SP staff 2-3 years from now?
  8. Does anyone think Castro is catching most games in year three of that deal? And while he doesn't have to replace him, he should probably play some before he has to.
  9. Backup QB syndnrome, and hope, and his amazing ability which none of us have seen....
  10. benjamin 12:30 does hunter greene have a very good chance to remain a starter? Eric A Longenhagen 12:31 I think so. Elite level athlete for a pitcher, delivery is gorgeous, prototypical size/strength, there's nothing not to like.
  11. Right, I don't doubt Romero has more upside, but I'd be shocked if De Leon isn't a number 4 for some time, if not better. His floor is, imo, super high. Not to mention Romero uses his arm for most of the work, and that scares me some.
  12. Veterans: Mauer, Dozier, Escobar, Castro, ESan, Gibson, Santiago, most of the bullpen. Who are they mentoring, exactly? So, we just wait until Garver is 27/28 before he comes up?
  13. Right, I meant to type that....whichever they like more right now, Murphy or Garver, should start in MN. My money is on it going the way I don't want, though.
  14. So, wait until Garver is 27 for him to play in the majors? Why?
  15. I hope the Twins take the Rangers' advice, realize where they are in the rebuild, and act accordingly. Stop hoping that "if A, B, and C work out perfectly, we might be good". Play either Murphy or Garver. Some say "Garver has to play every day"....well, he won't likely be asked to do that next year, either, assuming Castro is healthy. How many years will you hold him back, so that he can play every day in AAA? If Garver is the best player among the three, he should be up. If it is Gimenez, what would you learn/see from him playing every 3 days, to know if he's good/bad, that you don't already know?
  16. In the article: I fully believe he will be viewed as a better asset than Jose De Leon – the coveted prospect Minnesota passed up in Brian Dozier trade talks – a year from now.
  17. I'm not either, but you wanna bet if this happens more, or less, this year? You do know the history of college coaches abusing these guys, right?
  18. He has the potential to be an ACE, and you'd not use him as a pitcher? I'm not sure I understand, but am open to reading more...
  19. Wanna place money on that De Leon statement? I'm not sure how we'd measure it, given the Twin will be in A and AA ball, and De Leon will be in AAA and the majors....and lose his prospect status.
  20. I would never let my kid go to a college program if he would be a top HS pitcher/1st/2nd round pick. Most of the coaches don't care about the athletes at all.
  21. Me? I like Wright or Greene right now, in February. I want UPSIDE. If Kendall could get to a 5 tool player (i.e., he could make contact), he'd be the obvious #1 choice. But, if you can't make contact, that's an issue.
  22. Bad idea, imo.. If you want him to be a great pitcher, you have him concentrate on pitching. And on not getting hurt also.
  23. Haven't checked. Maybe I won't...
