  1. even in a world where stats don't matter, that's just bad.
  2. It should be pretty clear that I said...promote. What young player have they added, that wasn't on the roster? edit: Indeed, with Chargois and Berrios probably not on the roster, and JRM probably not, I think they've actually reduced the amount of young players, but we won't know for another week or so.
  3. In specific, I agree. In general, this team is SOL if they refuse to promote youth in principle. Given their talk and actions, I'm still waiting.
  4. Well then. Eventually they'll add some youth, but clearly not now.
  5. this. If they try to make him something the opposite of what has made him successful, then I'll have doubts.
  6. Buxton needs to bunt? What is this, 1970? I have never read anyone on the planet, until now, describe Suzuki as a good catcher. edit: has this scout seen the other LFer in the game? Look at the FG projections?
  7. Golly I hope you people bought Shopify last year..... I'm close to betting on bitcoin right now, every time it takes a drop, it recovers. But, I am short cash.....
  8. You have no long man in the current bullpen. One will be added. Either Duffey or Haley or random guy. Or they'll make Tonkin (sigh, why did they do that last year) or Wimmers do it. But, imo, there will be a long man there.
  9. I have no idea if he has 2, 3, 4, or 5. But sure, if he only has 1 or 2, that makes starting a lot harder. I just want this FO to put players in position to succeed, indeed, to excel. That has not always seemed to be the case in the past.
  10. I would still be disappointed that jay was being moved off of starting already, but I can't speak for others. A decision can be both correct, and disappointing...
  11. I have no idea how many pitches he can throw well enough to get out MLB hitters. I just want him used in the most effective way, whatever that is.
  12. Weren't were just told that the system was fine, and we shouldn't worry about the prospects? So confused....
  13. I also don't think they are rebuilding. They only talked about adding veterans all off season. They did so. they tried to add even more. There is zero evidence they are rebuilding, or even building at all.
  14. He never said decisions only (about the injuries...he mentions three decisions, basically), he said all this news together is disappointing. I share that. I can't see how anyone wouldn't, really.
  15. Wait, now you are saying that pitchers should come up earlier, not later? You gonna say that about Berrios and Meija also?
  16. I think it would be ok if they lost Tonkin. They have about 100 RPs in AA and AAA that are about as good or better. Even at his best, imo, he's a decent RP, not a great one. I am beginning to get hopeful that Vogelsgang is not on the roster.
  17. I think you read the market wrong....they are getting past the idea that defense doesn't matter, not Ks. If Sano can hit and play 3rd, he'll make plenty of money. If he can hit and play 1st, he'll make plenty of money. If he can only hit HRs, and not play D, and have a low OBP, well, he'll stay make 7-8MM per year (in today's dollars).
  18. for me, the Twins want more control and strike throwing. That doesn't work for Santiago, he appears to be wildly effective.....so, if they are really going all in on this "control or don't pitch" thing, I have concerns. But, i'd pencil them both in, now that both are signed.
  19. I do agree that there is some middle ground that is more realistic. The only actual research on manager effectiveness is based on RP usage, including warming them up (though that data is VERY HARD to collect). It is clear that getting RPs up and down a lot is very bad for them. So, you'd have to be very well planned out to be more flexible....and have lots of guys you can send to AAA and back to get them some rest.
  20. All of it. Players with less than 3 years experience: Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Kepler, Polanco (sort of), Grossman, Chargois (maybe), Haley, Berrios (maybe). Did I miss someone? * 16 veterans for 9 players with less than 3 years experience....that seems like plenty of leaders per "youth". *odds are, I did.....OTOH, it is possible that Berrios and Chargois don't make the opening day roster, though I am pretty sure Chargois will.
  21. Lots of experts felt Jay had the stuff to be a legit MLB starter. He's not like most RP from college, imo. I'll cut them some slack for thinking he could maybe become a starter. That said, it seems early in the process to make this change. Also, if he does become one of the best RPs in MLB, that would be great. But to say that's his floor is, imo, premature.
  22. When you say Santana can hit a little, and play adequate defense, what do you mean? Because by statistical measures, he's one of the five worst players in MLB the last 2 years. So, I'm genuinely curious what those two statements mean. who is Gimenez mentoring or leading? Certainly not a catcher, and probably not any young pitchers (as Berrios and Chargois are your only real young guys, since Haley is only making the roster because he is a rule 5 pick, not based on what he's shown at all). I'd think Castro and Santana are enough leadership for the SPs, with plenty of veteran RPs to mentor your 1-2 young players. I hope you are right on Berrios. If their best pitching coach is in the majors, I'd want him there.
  23. The FLOOR of a player that has barely pitched in AA is a great bullpen piece? I don't think so. edit: of a player that has been injured so much he had to be shut down?
  24. So now we make a decision on 7 year deals after 1 year? So, if the players had been great for 1 year, the deals would have been good deals?
