  1. If he never comes up, because it is important to get AAA reps and have depth....I'd rather have him here if he's better than Murphy or Gimenez this year or next year...
  2. It's important that 26 year olds be in the minors for more seasoning....they are just too young to be in the majors.
  3. Kepler (and those interested) should read this: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/j-d-martinez-debunks-conventional-wisdom-thinks-a-tipping-point-is-near/ It freaking quotes this thread....nice job TD!
  4. Can we add "who can actually play a position" to that requirement, Brock?
  5. It's actually pretty clear from the math that trying to hit ground balls is a bad idea. No matter what the situation is. No matter who the hitter is. He's not saying that, I don't think. But some commentors seem to be.
  6. It is a great list of names. Here's hoping every one of them is up 1-2 rungs by the end of the year. I can understand starting someone in a warmer climate, but at some point, those guys have to pitch in the cold in the majors. Unless there is an injury concern, I wouldn't worry about the temp. No surprise, but I am pretty aggressive, especially with arms, and would like Gonsalves in AAA, and Romero in AA to start the year. I don't really have a ton of interest in mediocre old guys in the majors, I'd rather have young guys that need work there.....but I get not everyone agrees. Nor am I trying to convince anyone.
  7. I'm almost 53, so I'm a bit more worried about the next correction than some of you should be. At 7%, it takes 8 years to break even from a 40% fall in prices. I'd be 61 then.....I'd kind of like to only lose 20% in the next correction somehow. So, I am looking at things, and thinking about putting in automatic sales. OTOH, I thought the market would drop in the weeks following the election, then bounce up, then come down sometime this year. So, wtf do I know?
  8. I just binge watched season one of the magicians. Wow. Super dark. Making the students older made sense. Don't watch this if you don't like violence. It's not always there, but when it is, it is dark.
  9. Posting here instead of the usual thread: Eric 9:21 Phil Hughes made his 2nd start and was consistently at 87-88 MPH on the radar gun. Do you think he can ramp up to 90? Are all pitchers in ST sitting at 2-4 MPH below their normal velocity? Jeff Sullivan 9:22 It's still very early in spring. Many pitchers are below their summer velocities. Arm strength, in general, isn't even fully built up by April or May. Be patient here
  10. Agreed, I expect NOTHING from this group of players ever again. Anything you get is bonus. I do agree, they need someone to fill this kind of role. I'd just prefer it be someone you can move to the minors if/when needed.
  11. CLE probably has the easiest path to the playoffs of any contender.
  12. I find this exercise interesting, if not totally predictive. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-top-college-players-by-maybe-predictive-stats-10/
  13. I too think it would be better if this person had options, and could be swapped out with another pitcher or two. The bullpen, imo, should be made up of a couple of elite guys, and 6-8 guys that can be swapped back and forth to AAA.
  14. I hate you. That is all.
  15. Probably not. If he can pitch at an elite level, teams will try that first. Because there are almost no number 1, and hardly any number 2, pitchers. IMO, of course.
  16. I won't worry about the radar (as a predictor of success) for a couple weeks.....but he'll probably have to throw harder to be successful.
  17. How does Hunter Greene compare to other recent HS RHP phenoms? Guys like Bundy, pre-TJ Giolito, and Taillon. KLAW: Nobody has thrown this hard except Pint, and Greene does it much easier. Giolito and Bundy had better secondary stuff at this age. Greene is probably the best athlete of this whole group. And he can play plus defense at short.
  18. Would they? Batting order is shown not to matter all that much, frankly. A true advocate would realize that, and then wonder, other than a few tweaks here and there, if there are other things to worry about, and whether or not the general "comfort" of not too much change is better. I don't know, but I'm not sure an advocate of stats would necessarily endorse tons of change based on the handedness of the pitcher. Also, since pitchers rarely pitch past inning 7 anymore, 28% of all at bats will come after the starter leaves the game. What if the handedness changes for the RPs?
  19. I read this same quote last year. And really only Berrios and Chargois came up. And it's possible one (or both?) of those won't start in MN this year. When do they actually go young? What does ready mean, exactly, because I read all the time we should not expect rookies to be good right away? Why should I want to see a bad RP or bad SP start, and not see Melotakis or Berrios? Frank Viola wasn't ready his first year or two, but they developed him in the majors. Why not do that with Berrios or some RPs?
  20. Can't wait for it to be on a "station" I get....
