  1. I also don't think they are rebuilding. They only talked about adding veterans all off season. They did so. they tried to add even more. There is zero evidence they are rebuilding, or even building at all.
  2. He never said decisions only (about the injuries...he mentions three decisions, basically), he said all this news together is disappointing. I share that. I can't see how anyone wouldn't, really.
  3. Wait, now you are saying that pitchers should come up earlier, not later? You gonna say that about Berrios and Meija also?
  4. I think it would be ok if they lost Tonkin. They have about 100 RPs in AA and AAA that are about as good or better. Even at his best, imo, he's a decent RP, not a great one. I am beginning to get hopeful that Vogelsgang is not on the roster.
  5. I think you read the market wrong....they are getting past the idea that defense doesn't matter, not Ks. If Sano can hit and play 3rd, he'll make plenty of money. If he can hit and play 1st, he'll make plenty of money. If he can only hit HRs, and not play D, and have a low OBP, well, he'll stay make 7-8MM per year (in today's dollars).
  6. for me, the Twins want more control and strike throwing. That doesn't work for Santiago, he appears to be wildly effective.....so, if they are really going all in on this "control or don't pitch" thing, I have concerns. But, i'd pencil them both in, now that both are signed.
  7. I do agree that there is some middle ground that is more realistic. The only actual research on manager effectiveness is based on RP usage, including warming them up (though that data is VERY HARD to collect). It is clear that getting RPs up and down a lot is very bad for them. So, you'd have to be very well planned out to be more flexible....and have lots of guys you can send to AAA and back to get them some rest.
  8. All of it. Players with less than 3 years experience: Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Kepler, Polanco (sort of), Grossman, Chargois (maybe), Haley, Berrios (maybe). Did I miss someone? * 16 veterans for 9 players with less than 3 years experience....that seems like plenty of leaders per "youth". *odds are, I did.....OTOH, it is possible that Berrios and Chargois don't make the opening day roster, though I am pretty sure Chargois will.
  9. Lots of experts felt Jay had the stuff to be a legit MLB starter. He's not like most RP from college, imo. I'll cut them some slack for thinking he could maybe become a starter. That said, it seems early in the process to make this change. Also, if he does become one of the best RPs in MLB, that would be great. But to say that's his floor is, imo, premature.
  10. When you say Santana can hit a little, and play adequate defense, what do you mean? Because by statistical measures, he's one of the five worst players in MLB the last 2 years. So, I'm genuinely curious what those two statements mean. who is Gimenez mentoring or leading? Certainly not a catcher, and probably not any young pitchers (as Berrios and Chargois are your only real young guys, since Haley is only making the roster because he is a rule 5 pick, not based on what he's shown at all). I'd think Castro and Santana are enough leadership for the SPs, with plenty of veteran RPs to mentor your 1-2 young players. I hope you are right on Berrios. If their best pitching coach is in the majors, I'd want him there.
  11. The FLOOR of a player that has barely pitched in AA is a great bullpen piece? I don't think so. edit: of a player that has been injured so much he had to be shut down?
  12. So now we make a decision on 7 year deals after 1 year? So, if the players had been great for 1 year, the deals would have been good deals?
  13. A front office that looks to have zero rookies make a roster from a100 loss team, is now too fast track guys? Based on what evidence from their actions?
  14. Terrible return for that pick. And the scouts and guys making the picks are still here, right?
  15. Just another guy in AAA showing why they don't need five veteran starters in Minnesota.....i hope he gets to pitch in Minnesota some late this year.
  16. It wasn't an argument for spending on 5 players, but that people are saying "FA contracts turn out badly at the end, never sign a big time FA". His response is quite clear, those back years suck, but if you want the fun of the good years, that's the actual price of the good parts of the deal.
  17. How is not signing FAs working out for this team, exactly? Which teams are actually winning more games? Of course the contracts almost never work out over the entire length, that's the cost of being in the game of MLB or NFL or NHL or NBA. If you aren't willing to pay that price, you'll pretty much never sign a big FA, meaning you are at a huge disadvantage. Look, if you want to own a major league sports team, and you aren't willing to sign big time FAs? Maybe you shouldn't own a major league sports team. Of, you should just admit you are never going to be good over a sustained period, and you'll never likely buy that one missing piece. If that's your strategy, then you have to be one of the best at acquiring and developing talent. Does anyone think the Twins are significantly above average at either of those?
  18. Teams that spend on FA to fill that "one last hole" don't have Jason Tyner, DH, either.
  19. so just give up on one of the ways to acquire talent, and admit you are can't really compete?
  20. As the GM of the WS champion Cubs states, if you are rational about FAs, you won't sign FAs. He was also the GM of the WS champion Red Sox. He also signs FAs to big deals.
  21. Interestingly, since I started tracking ads, I have not received one shoe or women's clothing ad....on any site.
  22. Maybe you are getting my ads, and I'm getting your ads?
  23. Seriously considering tracking my ads on various sites now. I am kind of fascinated. Now getting Harry's razors ads. Is there any way that is related to getting an email from dollar shave that my order shipped?
