    Sacrificing only makes sense in the late innings, because a run or two matters when there aren't many ABs left. IMO, that was one situation (before the AB started) where it made decent sense to me.

    If you wait until someone is 100% ready (how would you ever know, btw?) to give them an assignment, you aren't running your business the right way. people need to be stretched and challenged to grow. There may be legit things these guys need to work on, but waiting for some mythical time when they are 100%/developed is not how the world works.

    It's not jerking him back and forth, it's what some teams do with young players to get them some time in the majors, w/o putting them in the rotation the first 2 months they are there. Especially if they are on an innings limit, as is likely in this case. It's a move for 2 months, to keep him pitching, and to get his feet wet.

    If they are willing to move on from Hughes as a starter, then I can see adding a FA or a SP in a trade. Even w/o him....you have: Santana Berrios Santiago Mejia Gibson May Gonsalves Jorge Romero Assuming you let one of Gibson/Santiago go....you think they'd let them both go?......do you think they'll go get one?

    I just want them to give the inexperienced players a chance to succeed and fail. They'll never be ready next year, if the rule is you can't put them in tough situations as rookies. I just don't buy it, that inexperience in and of itself is reason not to give them a shot. Talent might be....but that's not what I feel is always happening here.

    Agreed, it's not easy to have that talent base available.

    Chris Sale is good, great even. Boston probably should have been asked to give up even more for this. This is the kind of guy you make trades for, not mediocre players, imo.

    and I'm the opposite. next year, when they don't punt the bullpen, and buxton doesn't hit -50 the first month, next year they should be legit contenders maybe. Get these guys experience THIS YEAR, so they are ready next year. Otherwise, we get to not see them next year, because "you can't count on rookies", or some other nonsense. As for the 25% rule, that's been shown to not be real, but teams think it is real, so they act that way. I'd put Romero in the bullpen in a month or so. I'd put Gonsalves in AAA (like, a month ago), and then have him in MN in August.

    It's against the rules for a rookie to pitch in relief when the score is close. Duh.

    Can you hear the music if you don't have tickets? Also, we don't have a hotel yet, I'm guessing finding one even a little close would be a challenge, making parking impossible.....or not, maybe we'll try. That is the discussion.

    I am flying into Boston on July 4. Still deciding if we will try to stay there that night, or drive toward Upstate NY (where we are headed). guess I should decide soon.....My son is interning out there, we'll visit him on the 9th. this has been your boring update on my life, back to baseball...

    IMO, Kintzler is a good closer. Much better as a closer than as a 7-8th inning guy. He does his job, not sure what more people want. Is he the best ever? no. Is he at least league average? Appears so. I'll take that.

    I agree they weren't likely to, but I would always be testing the waters as a GM. I don't think I'd trade Gordon for Rondon, but I think you have consider Freeland. Not necessarily because he'll be better, but because the Twins have depth in MIF, and no nearly enough SP.
