  1. The same Molitor that plays DanSan 40% of the time is the guy you think is worried about defensive consistency?
  2. On Garver "playing every day".....that won't happen this year, if Castro is healthy, or next year, if Castro is healthy. Keeping him in AAA just to "catch every day" makes no sense given Castro's contract. That said, I'm good with another month or so in AAA, but if he continues to hit, he should be up and in the lineup. Did I miss it, or was Gonsalves not mentioned? Can't recall if he's hurt or what. Putting a bunch of old players in the bullpen, w/o options, makes it really hard to make moves. Why? Because you are scared you might lose a mediocre old guy who isn't part of the future. It was a mistake, given where they are, and it remains a mistake. They have no flexibility.
  3. ya, well, I kinda knew that, my point was maybe promoting him to replace anyone would require at least some AAA playing. But I guess I missed the part where we meant RIGHT NOW. My bad, as I was sort of working...
  4. What wrong move did he make in the 9th? It's hard to argue with any of his decisions.
  5. I agree with this. The FO made these choices with April in mind, and they aren't going to change their mind 1 or 2 weeks in, IMO.
  6. Not me, as I use my last name....but possibly of interest. Mike 12:13 How do the advanced defensive stats work for first basemen? Are they mainly evaluating range, etc, as they would at other positions...or does skill at handling throws in the dirt and preventing errors by other infielders play a substantial role? How substantial? Dave Cameron 12:13 Scoops are measured, yes. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/first-basemen-scoops/ 12:14 But the difference in scooping skill between big league first baseman is pretty small, so the impact it has on UZR/DRS is not that large. It's mostly range.
  7. thrylos is right.....filling your bullpen with old players w/o options is handcuffing a team like this. If only that had been predictable before 1 week into the season, and there were a whole lot of RPs in AAA and AA that threw the ball hard...
  8. disagree. There is no grand conspiracy to hurt Molitor. As for DanSan.....Molitor wants him on the roster. Saying that he was hamstrung because that was one of his options to play, well, that's on Molitor. Let's not give Paul a pass on this. Please. As for the RP, the manager refuses to use Tonkin other than in a mop up capacity. Just let him go already. Breslow won't be missed when he leaves. Duffy should probably get a shot to start again, just in case he can be good (though I think he's a high leverage reliever). Most of the rest of the bullpen is just ok anyway. Does it really matter if they lose Tonkin, or Breslow? Breslow is, what, 78 years old? He won't be here when they're good. This is, imo, a failure of the FO and manager. It was when they went North, and it remains so now. But, I'll say this, since they didn't add a legit 4th OFer (and given Buxton's start, it sure looks like they should have for the 4th straight year), and they failed in their quest to sign any of the aging DH types, and Park is hurt, I have no idea who should come up. Basically, this offseason, they fixed catcher and nothing else.
  9. Except that whole correlation between K/9 in the minors and success in the majors, which is real, sure...
  10. DanSan was in teh starting lineup. The point he was making that he should never have been in the starting lineup....
  11. Right, Mollie made the correct choices in teh 9th. this is about not having a bench at all, and 2 of the bench "hitters" being just above the Buxton line...
  12. How about hitting like Nick Punto, too much to ask?
  13. Probably because Grossman and Santana and a player who can't hit (gimenez) are playing and the latter is also out of position.....
  14. What would BYTO say about Buxton right now (that you can type here).....
  15. I hate to type this, but plenty of people said he had a hole in his swing, and that he was over rated. Several people said that no one had ever started this badly, and become a star (in chats on line). I thought last year something changed, but as far as anyone can tell, he just can't hit a MLB pitch right now. I have no idea what they should do with him.
  16. Scoops are over rated, from what I read, most 1B are about the same. FWIW, Joe scores pretty well on the various metrics. IMO, if anything, he's under rated defensively.
  17. I read all his stuff. A. You accused him of trying to sell stories, by not being honest. I don't believe that. B; I think reading 1-2 paragraphs doesn't give you the full glimpse into his thought process. I also think concluding that he doesn't like his stuff ignores his talk about velocity, age, raw ability, and athleticism completely. You chose the parts of his writing that backed your conclusion. You also are drawing a conclusion based on those sentences, as if those are all the thoughts he has on the 17 yo that throws upper 90s. Edited by glunn
  18. Gimenez and DanSan. I feel bad for the team already.
  19. You are stating he is not stating his honest opinion, but is trying to sell stories? Wow. That's. Wow. Pathetic claim to make with no evidence at all, frankly.
  20. You left off the part where KLAW would take him 1:1....
  21. KLAW did say that Greene would be a top ten pick as a SS also....but no one is drafting him as a SS first.
