  1. Fair question. Good question. Santana is 34 (I think) and is showing signs of slowing down some. And, he's gone after next year. Gibson is bad. Berrios is probably good. Mejia is a wild card, but probably a 4 at best, imo. FA So, ya, if you are keeping Gibson or counting on May, then maybe you think you only need 1 SP. I think this team needs at least 2. But, I can see the argument they only need 1.
  2. I like the "and" instead of just "instead".....trade AND spend.
  3. then where will you get pitching? I don't think any team has ever bought 2 legit SPs in FA in one year, but I could be wrong about that. edit to add: If they never trade for a SP, out of fear, and they don't draft them in round 1, out of fear.....and signing guys into their late 30s is not done....where do they find pitching?
  4. .750 OPS SS is 10th in all of MLB.....I'd think that's quite valuable, if you can play good defense.
  5. if not, they are doing it wrong. IMO, of course. if they expected all the pitchers they have added to fail, that's an issue too, I'd think.
  6. Not sure if serious, but he had TJ surgery this year. He's not likely to be super ready/effective next year.
  7. Can only judge them on their actions to find hidden gems, so far, ummmm.
  8. Darvish will stay in TX, as they are trying to entice Otani, from what I read. Arrieta has been pretty "meh" this year, he has 1-2 great years, and a bunch of "meh" years. But, he'll cost like a top end guy, imo. Price, hard to see how he opts out, given his health this year, but it's possible. Cueto, hmmmm, he's a tough one. If he does opt out, it's because he's been very good and healthy. If so, he's going to cost the most of any player on this list. I'm not convinced those others are number 1/2 types at all.
  9. I'd like to dream on that too. So far, their AAA scouting skills and RP FA signing skills seem suspect at best.....
  10. break the bank, in FA? 1. there aren't many great FA available. 2. you have to outbid the other teams for those few pitchers (if any)
  11. so, don't trade for a good SP? Where do you expect to get good SP for the next 3 years while Sano is here?
  12. We must be reading very different sites, because I haven't seen anyone say he's moving off SS anytime soon in over a year.
  13. Given what other teams gave up for unproven draft pick QBs, we'll just disagree that was an overpay...but your point is valid. If the Twins won't trade for or sign legit SP, this team is doomed to mediocrity.
  14. people are awfully down on De Leon pretty fast. His numbers in AAA dwarf what any AA pitcher the Twins have is doing.
  15. Good FA pitchers will get around 14-16 per year, minimum, this off season. More like 20MM per year if they are as good as him. Maybe more.
  16. I'll take that bet right now. He's a legit SS starter next year, and for the next 5-10. You, sir, are very incorrect about Gordon's time table.
  17. They couldn't deal Dozier the entire off season. So, why could they now?
  18. how do you propose they get pitching next year, or the year after, if not in trades?
  19. Agreed, but it has to be for a controllable pitcher. And no, Gordon alone isn't enough to get that.....
  20. Lewis will not be a SS. Lewis will not be a SS. Lewis will not be a SS. As for Gordon, you need to get a legit starter controlled for at least three more years, or I am not interested. He will be at least a league average SS for s long time.
  21. FWIW: Tye: Would someone like Stroman, Gray, or Archer be a reasonable get for the Twins? Keith Law: It makes absolutely no sense for the Twins to trade prospects for major-league help right now.
  22. The roster is filled with nice players, but it takes elite players (and lots of nice players) to be champions. It's hard to see any elite players other than Sano and maybe Berrios right now. It's very nice to have no gaping holes, but that's not enough, most likely, to win in the playoffs. Buxton could be elite if he hits close to league average. And learns how to steal more/more efficiently.
