  1. You think he's going to be a good MLB pitcher when he's 37 and 38? do you know how short that list is?
  2. Do you realize the Cardinals and other teams sometimes have a guy pitch out of the bullpen to get their first taste of the majors? This isn't about "converting" him.....
  3. If they don't acquire someone, it comes from the minors, just like if they trade him..... My point was, if the FO is going to sit around and see what happens, they are no different than the previous regime, not committing to a rebuild, not going in to win. BTW, ESAN is 35, how long do people believe he can keep this up?
  4. Agreed, more bad tactics, based on their own bad tactics.
  5. IMO, this is how you get stuck in perpetual rebuilds, and marginal competitiveness. If those teams had made a trade to get better, they might have won a playoff series (or not).
  6. Either go in, or go out, but stop trying to play the "do nothing" course. IMO, of course. If they are going to try to win, go get a legit pitcher, and 2 RPs and a DH. If they aren't going to try to win, trade ESan and Dozier and any RP not nailed down.
  7. KLAW has his top July 2 article up. Says the Twins are linked to Jelfry Marte, who is a switch hitter, defense first SS. But, as with them all, it's hard to say much with certainty about power at this age....
  8. today's fringe five installment: Zack Granite, OF, Minnesota (Profile) This represents Granite’s third consecutive appearance among the Five, and his inclusion here is the source of some anxiety for the author. For one, Granite struck out in a quarter of his plate appearances since last Friday. For a player with his skill set, elite contact rates are almost a necessity. And for two, the possibility has recently occurred to me that Granite will follow, more or less, Billy Burns‘ career path. Which, Burns certainly has his virtues — and actually parlayed his talents into a slightly above-average 2015 campaign (555 PA, 2.4 WAR) with Oakland — but the lack of power has placed considerable pressure on his other skills. Granite will need to sustain an isolated-power figure north of .100 in order to remain relevant in the majors. Here he is, fortunately, recording a 3.000 ISO in a single plate appearance earlier this week: (video in story) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fringe-five-baseballs-most-compelling-fringe-prospects-94/
  9. so, change his swing after it starts "working"?
  10. In their defense, according to one FG writer, the Twins lead the league in launch angle, so this isn't a Twins' thing...... As for Buxton, they (and/or he) don't seem to know what to do at this point. That's what I gather anyway. Nothing about this article inspires a ton of confidence, but I'm not sure what would at this point. Other than patience, and experimentation, it doesn't seem like there is much other choice.
  11. Sigh. this is the downside of risky investments......
  12. I think the big hurdle is that most of the deals for the best players are already done, and you can't trade international money before July 2 (to keep bonus pools small, so they don't pay much to 1 player). Me? I'd trade every player that I didn't like for international money, and sign 20 - 30 guys, and as many top guys as I could.
  13. well, I think we have a very different view of the world, then. Since, you know, he'll have 1 opportunity in his entire life to go to this ceremony, vs YEARS of working on the job. I can't even imagine anyone in the org is disappointed he's going, frankly.
  14. People keep typing that: a: who is trading away top end pitching under control for more than half a year b: they couldn't manage to make one trade this off season despite having the worst SP in baseball and plenty of MIF depth.
  15. International signings pepper the top prospects lists for every team, and across MLB. Getting this part right is more important than some seem to believe (right, or lucky, if you assume you can't scout a 16 yo, which I disagree with).
  16. congrats, good luck with everything. I know it's a relief to you to be mortgage free almost. It was a bad day yesterday, but a very good day today for the stocks we both like....
  17. I want to be clear, I'm joking mostly. If he's hurt, he should be on the DL. Players should protect themselves from long term injury.
  18. "sore ribs" wow. I do like they are using the DL this way, but wow.
  19. that shocked me also. 2nd year of pitching, and a "2nd round pick". Unreal.
  20. sorry, missed they put him on the DL with a phantom injury. Can't wait until he comes back.....
  21. so it isn't about leadership, then, apparently.
  22. the cubs can sign Jon Lester, you counting on the Twins doing that? Theo also has a history of making trades, this FO had 1 job this off season, and demand or not, could not trade Brian Dozier. so, I'll wait and see what they do before I trust them. And, their choices for the bullpen aren't inspiring me much.
  23. this might or might not be of interest: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-can-speed-do/
