I heard the radio broadcasters mention that the Twins might use the off day Monday to skip the fifth rotation spot. If true, the bullpen would now consist of these nine: Achter, Boyer, Duensing, Fein, Graham, Jepsen, May, O'Rourke, Perkins.
28 but fairly new to the league. I compare him somewhat to Buehrle actually. Buehrle is 36 and throws like 84 mph but knows what pitch to throw in all situations.
The Twins were happy to start the season with Arcia in left and zero good outfielders. Let's see if next year they are happy to platoon Arcia in left when they have two actual good outfielders.
Gibson will be fine. Toronto is good but not this good. They've got to have some holes in their swings that the Twins aren't identifying. Maybe the data wasn't delivered to them. Maybe Suzuki is in a lazy pitch calling slump. Also it would be nice to have a 98MPH guy who could just go in and throw heat instead of bringing in relievers with 92 MPH fastballs who fool no one.
I'm listening to the radio and keep hearing the words "stand up double" Is that any different from a "sliding" double? Thanks I'll take my answer off the air
]If this means Nolasco never gets another shot at the rotation, I think we'll all be on board with that. (of course things aren't always what they seem with the Twins FO.....)
Hey Vanimal, first time / long time, love your program. Do you have any info on Oswaldo Arcia? Has he learned to choke up with two strikes and take it the other way, or is he still swinging for the fences every time. What do you rate his chances of ever learning to hit at the Major League level? Thanks, I'll take my answer off the air.
I think some teams ruin it for others. A team like the San Francisco Giants has been to 3 World Series and mostly with guys they've drafted themselves. Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner, Jonathan Sanchez, Brian Wilson, Sergio Romo, Volgelsong, others I'm sure who are also coming up through the system that aren't household names yet.
Well written article but I disagree. Especially with the timing. The time to look back and say "meh, wouldn't have made a difference anyway" is in the offseason. The guys in the clubhouse were expecting reinforcements. Twins have an opportunity this year they weren't expecting, and the front office has so far pooched it. The team now needs to get out of Toronto ASAP and try and regroup to make a second go at this thing. The front office can still help if they want.
