  1. Luckily, bird watcher, the ikelihood is very remote that Diamond will pitch in the majors this year. I appreciate that there are defenders of this coaching regime, but good or bad these coaches have overstayed their welcome. Also, I ask you, by what measure Liriano is "stinking up the joint again" this year? It's closer to the truth to say that the Cincinnati Reds have five starting pitchers that would put Gibson and Hughes to shame, than to say that Liriano is having a horrible year.
  2. Then I stand corrected... unfortunately! (and Antony should know of which he speaks.. what a huge jump going from asst. GM puttering around in the background, to suddenly being the guy in charge)
  3. There was an article/thread back in April on this same topic. Predicting when Meyer will make his debut. Unfortunately the comments are lost. I doubt anyone would have predicted that if Meyer pitched well all year, stayed healthy, and did all the right things, that he would make his debut... not this year at all.
  4. Fixed it for you. You obviously aren't from around here, are you.
  5. Sconnie, I actually think the right manager could come on board and instantly make this team a contender. Somehow Tom Kelly did it, and you see it just about every year, a losing team makes a playoff run. Granted the current Twins still do not have the horses to make a serious bid at a World Series championship, but just about anything can happen in the playoffs. Now to contradict my last sentence by 180 degrees, I will say I don't think the Twins are likely to ever win another playoff series under Gardenhire. Basically, Gardy's disregard for statistics will always leave the Twins unprepared against most any team they are likely to encounter. Which is not to say Gardy is a bad manager - I think he does certain things well, and people (me for example) sometimes underestimate how alert he is to what's going on on the field. I will save the rest of my praise for him until his retirement party though. jtkoupal, thanks for your support. Many Minnesota natives feel the same as you and are ready to move on into the future.
  6. A six man rotation could be the answer for a while. We have a lot of healthy guys who can make a case to be starting. Only thing is getting Meyer's starts in August before his inning quota. Or bullpen. I wouldn't mind seeing Meyer debut in a tie game in the 7th or 8th either -- a high pressure situation but without any postseason positioning at stake.
  7. Vargas made it. I disagree on Hicks. For whatever reason, him and Gardy just do not mix. Or maybe it's Antony or the other coaches. Or maybe even Hicks's own teammates. Whatever, it would instantly become a distraction if Hicks came back on and even in a sub .500 season I'd prefer not to be audience to that. That might mean dealing Hicks in the offseason if the Twins decide to keep their coaches yet another year.
  8. Good point John. Willingham might fit in Oakland now. I wouldn't be surprised if Suzuki or Willingham stay put though. They like it here and the Twins players want to stick together and finish strong this year. I'm actually on board with this idea though the FO will be skewered for it.
  9. I can also see success without Mauer, or a less prominent Mauer (batting sixth for example).
  10. So, only your best tirades make it to print Well tirades are what the Twins need to be hearing IMO...
  11. Kudos to Brock and the rest of Twins Daily. It's so easy and tempting when reaching a milestone on a big project to take a quick break, take a breath, a step back to enjoy the "fruits of your labors" for a time, but you guys have kept on it, even after the new site went on line. Bravo!
  12. I agree, and liked having them nearer the top / above the fold (now they seem to be further down the front page and squashed below numerous ads & such), the excerpt is a nice addition, I might also like seeing the most recent poster too, however.
  13. This is going to be great, but it's always a little (or a lot) awkward at first.. Like coming home one day and all your furniture is moved around, new chairs you haven't sat in before and someone changed the curtains, the kitchen table is sitting in the master bedroom, the bookshelf you donated 2 years ago is back in the corner where the fishbowl was, and so on.
  14. Love it. Here's another link http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mariners-angels-trade-arrow-celebrations?ymd=20140720&content_id=85515492&vkey=news_mlb
  15. Good work jorgenswest.. is the league +/- percentage right at 0.0? If so I'd say Pinto is just fine as a pitch framer. (selectively throwing out Correia and Pelfrey, both who will not be around here much longer.)
  16. Where did this come from? Deduno could be a great mop up guy, as many people have been saying all along. He kept us in the game Friday.
  17. Dozier, Perkins, Plouffe-- I think you are on the right track. Sell all the usual names, and then maybe one of those guys too, who might actually bring something in return. The Twins system looks to have middle infield depth. I'd personally keep Perk though.
  18. No one on this thread has cheerleaded for Molitor yet, so let me be that guy. Molitor falls more into the TK temperament than the Gardy temperament. Which would also rule out Ozzie, Douggie, and Redmond for me. That's not to say TK didn't have an edginess, but Gardy's just got too much personality and clubhouse presence for my taste. I'd like to see the next manager just fade into the background, someone who lets the young guys put their own stamp on the next winning Twins teams. Also, someone already close to the team who knows the Twins community inside out. Seems like Molitor could be the guy, though I'm not wedded to him.
  19. Cut? You mean, like, "hey Joe, I need a word with you in my office"? Seems pretty harsh.
  20. I'd bet his odds are greater than 50-50 that he implodes at some point, but for now he's doing ok. It was actually about this time last year he had that awful game against the Yankees, and we have the Yankees coming to town in a couple weeks, so brace yourself for what's to come.
  21. Are umpires a variable?
  22. I love the first hand account - thanks! Sounds like a good honeymoon to me..
