    If they put a guy with rock hands at shortstop they will need even better pitching. The most optimistic projection for Lewis' return is in June. The season could be over by then.

    I lean toward letting him develop as a starter next season. If it doesn't work you can always move him back to the bullpen. If it does work you might have an ace pitcher, which is the most valuable thing in baseball. Imagine if they had decided to keep Johan Santana in the bullpen.

    Where's Paddack? Where are your last 3 relief pitchers on the roster?

    Or even Jose Iglesias. They need a SS to be competitive.

    Agree with this sentiment. I have high hopes for Lewis and Woods-Richardson next season. It will be hard to for any reliever to top what Duran did this season. It is one of the best relief seasons in Twins history.

    Keep that in mind when looking at Martin and Julien's statlines. The pitching they saw in AA was at least as good.

    I agree, except for his $8.5M price tag. He's worth it but the Twins aren't going to want to spend that on a backup.

    The league batted .243 this season and that's with a full-time DH in the NL.

    If they can't find a placeholder shortstop better than Palacios they aren't looking very hard. I think it is 100% certain Correa will opt out but there is still a good chance he returns to the Twins. Need intersects with opportunity. They will find a spot for Royce Lewis.

    There are weirder moves they could make. They once played Miguel Sano in the outfield.

    That's the same as a non-tender and a free agent offer. I understand wanting to "punish" a player for performing badly by cutting his pay but a 1 year $3M contract for Pagan isn't going to make a bit of difference in next season's budget. If you want him pay him, if not cut him. The real cost of Pagan is he fills a roster spot which might be better used on a different pitcher.

    But they have already said they aren't changing anything about how he'll be managed in 2023. Find another team even more absorbed in the spreadsheet and convince them he's a stud based on the last 2 months. Trade him to that team for someone else.

    Cardinals - Astros could be a fun series. Those franchises are not fond of one another.

    He made an adjustment. The league will catch up eventually but they might get some good innings out of him in the meantime.

    It is interesting that the pitcher who cost the least contributed the most down the stretch. Focusing on getting years of control of a relief pitcher is kind of dumb given the volatility of relievers. Just find someone who can fill in for the rest of the season. If they want to bring Fulmer back next year it just costs a little bit of money. Having control of Lopez cost them 4 pitching prospects. Fulmer only cost them a pitcher they probably weren't going to protect in the Rule 5 draft.

    If you've just hit what might be the only major league home run of your entire career I bet you would enjoy it as much as possible.

    I don't know why their infield defense numbers are so bad this season. Urshela and Correa dropped compared to previous seasons. Polanco had the worst season of his career.

    If Judge is traded for Ohtani the Yankees win the division and the Angels don't make the playoffs. Value isn't determined by how good your teammates are.

    A Twins loss and a Red Sox win and they move up a spot in the MLB draft. That seems to be the goal the past few weeks.

    Nobody needs to front load a deal. Always better economically to back load it. Money costs less tomorrow. MLB luxury tax will be higher later. If nothing else you can put the "front load" money in the bank and draw interest on it until you have to pay it later.

    Most teams want 5 outfielders on the roster. If you only have one a lot of balls fall in for hits.

    He's a free agent. If they don't sign Correa they should absolutely try to sign Contreras.

    The Twins should immediately offer to add 5 years, $150M to their current 2 year $70M deal for a 7 year $220M guarantee. That will likely get topped by someone offering 8 years $240M on the open market. It will be interesting to see if Boras wants to match the total value of Seager's contract and get Correa 9 years $290M or settle for the highest annual value for a shortstop and get 6 years $215M. Boras is always looking to set a new benchmark.

    I think the Cubs are likely to give Correa an offer. The Mariners might want to upgrade at SS. The Angels have deep pockets and need talent.
