  1. Did you guys notice o'rourke shaking or his hand after a couple of those sliders?
  2. I would send Santana down. Give Polanco his shot. When Plouffe comes back, Robinson should be DFA'd. He hasn't really done anything to warrant it, but I think Boyer has a better chance of helping us down the stretch than Robinson, especially since Santana, Buxton, and Arcia are a phone call away.
  3. "Twins fans are angry Which is a good sign. Way to pick up a nice prospect for a guy I really don’t think we’ll miss." - Rays forum. Rays fans seem pretty excited. Probably a bad sign.
  4. "No Kepler, Tilapia and some asian" - Draybay.com forum poster... kind of some funny stuff... "Hu started a game against the Durham Bulls last week" "Who did?" "Wei did"
  5. Or Jessie Spano "so excited"?
  6. Mike, I was just pointing out that there was another guy (out of options) who wasn't traded (yet) who might be in the mix. That should be a consideration. Also, there is a currently still productive veteran (Hunter) who may want to return and who would be more likely to return if plan A included only unproven or mostly unproven outfielders. I know you hate the thought of re-signing Hunter, so it's fair that you would want as many young guys as possible to alleviate the risk of dismal failure by one or several. Veteran outfielders can be found in FA. I don't see the point in having Kepler AND Buxton as untouchables when we have to do something with Arcia (who may be as good or better) and Hicks who many are also saying is a keeper and Rosario on top of that. Sorry if I chimed in on your discussion with Linus in a confusing fashion.
  7. what did we give up?
  8. I don't know if Thrylos compared Kepler and Arcia's relative current value so much as pointing out that including him in the conversations with the Buxtons and Sanos as an untouchable may be a bit over-the-top. Kepler's had a huge year. Is it repeatable moving up the class ladder? Perhaps the most apt comparison for this thread between Arcia and Kepler would be thus: What could we have gotten for Arcia 2 years ago. What about now? I don't want Kepler to go back and be average and have missed on Lucroy or Kimbrel or an impact guy because we over-valued our hand.
  9. If we traded one of the future outfielders we would pretty much HAVE to re-sign Hunter or a similar short-range insurance policy in the outfield. To the delight of the Pohlads. I'm not sure how Kepler's career has been so different from Joe Benson's. And it's almost certainly worse than the forgotten man, Ozzie Arcia. If I had to bet on who was more likely to be an impact major-leaguer, Kepler or Arcia, I'd pick Arcia. Kepler certainly doesn't seem to be drawing a ton of interest from other organizations...
  10. Well did the Royals luck out that Myers didn't develop into a star, or did they perhaps not have him rated as a top 5 prospect like others? I like to think of the Delmon trade as perfect example. He was one of the biggest prospects in the game. But I suppose if you really looked hard at stats and actually watched him play (eye test), you'd see that he was... unconventional. Probably same thing with Alex Meyer. Smart GM's can take advantage of the fact that prospect lists are typically slow to change because talent evaluators, other GM's, and forum posters alike, all hate to admit they were wrong.
  11. Torii Hunter starts a blog. http://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9y2yjKM2B1qeweuno1_500.jpg
  12. DaveW and Brock debating D Santana vs. E Escobar at short. http://media0.giphy.com/media/ailnj2AMt9e9i/giphy.gif
  13. I guess I'm not confident that Arcia is a better defender than Hunter next year. I'm not convinced that Buxton, Hicks or Rosario will be better hitters next year. I'm not convinced that Plouffe, Mauer, or Sano can play outfield at all. We've gotten ourselves into pickles by over-relying on youth before, I remember similar arguments for not re-signing Cuddy, but having a Plan B is usually a good thing. In this case, I can't honestly say Hunter would be a bad Plan B if everything goes wrong. What do we do next season if Buxton gets hurt again, Arcia pulls an Arcia, and Rosario pulls a Danny Santana? Any one of those scenarios makes Hunter a useful piece. I'd rather have him platooning out there than Robinson (who's been a decent bench guy in his own right). In a year we should compete, I like the thought of being able to plug in a vet like Hunter.
  14. We all thought you meant you'd take a ladder with a fishing net as a right fielder over Hunter... As would most of the posters in this thread. I'm fine with re-signing Hunter as long as it isn't to be a starter any more. He's performed admirably, and may continue to do so. If he wants to come back and play in spots/ provide insurance for injuries, failures, or trades of younger guys, I'm cool with him. Out of the things that are different about this year's team from last, Hunter is really the only different player.
  15. Nice use of the "legal" qualifier, if I remember reading his draft profile correctly... Florida State League has always been pitcher friendly, I believe. But he still is quite young and has time to develop a plus pitch along the way.
  16. Even when you two agree, you can't agree! There are many ways to improve your team. Is Gomez - Hicks > _________ - Esco/Santana or Santana/Esc for Dave, or ___________ - Suzuki? To me, Gomez is a significant upgrade, probably more so than any catcher or SS we'd be able to snag. The price seems pretty steep however.
  17. "Trevor May is our Ace, and the best pitcher on our staff." (based on peripherals), "But Ricky Nolasco is the worst pitcher and contract and we should pay teams to take him in a trade" (despite similar peripherals to May). The Twins need to clear out [proven player] in order to make room for [prospect(s)] who should just be handed the position regardless of team success, individual success, or entitlement because we "need to see what we have" after all, we're not REALLY going to contend until [current year plus 2-3 years]."
  18. I think this deal like this should be taken seriously. I wouldn't bet money that May or Berrios will be better than Shields over the next three years. I would bet money that Nolasco would be in the rotation next year regardless of what May and Berrios do in spring training. Look at the rest of the rotation. We had sure better be in win-now mode next season. Hu, Gonsalves, Thorpe, Berrios, Meyer, Jay, Stewart, Rogers, Slegers... We have arms. I'm happy to trade some of them to help the team win now and avoid the inevitable TwinsDaily '17 debate about Hu and Jay being blocked by an aging Hughes and Santana.
  19. Ahh, hence the qualifier "probably". It's conceivable he's become one of the great control pitchers in the game. It's also conceivable that he could regress back toward his career marks in walks and HR. His high BABIP could be horrible luck or hard contact. A lot of posters seem to think it's a given that he can continue to post relatively low FIP and xFIP, but looking at his career marks as well as his game footage, I'm skeptical. Doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the rotation or that we shouldn't have ridden his streak of control and limiting HR. I just have some reservation about the expectations that he would be an ace or our best pitcher or even continue with the same level of success he's shown earlier this year.
  20. May also has a (probably) unsustainable BB rate and HR run rate bringing down the FIP and XFIP. Not saying he shouldn't be in the rotation or taking away from his first half and improvement in control, just I don't think it's fair to expect improvement on BABIP and not expect some regression in walks and home runs which will inherently raise his FIP and xFIP.
  21. Prospects' value as trade pieces also go up and down. IMO, the Twins front office has been either a) poor at evaluating talent; poor at maximizing and nurturing talent; or c) too stubborn or passive in acting on a or b. If we're evaluating and nurturing talent correctly, we should have a great idea as to who may or may not be expendable. At least I hope we know our own prospects better than other teams. Looking back at our failed prospects. Almost all of them came with sneaking suspicions of over-hype long before their value started to plummet. Prospect rankings are often slow-to-react. We've had lots of coveted players and prospects who we held until their trade value was virtually gone. We've traded virtually no one at the peak of their value. Gordon Gekko would say the Twins do a good job of buying low, but a pretty poor job at selling high. What in-house prospects might people be overvaluing?
  22. Hmmm... Out of the wild-card contenders... who are we better than now? I'd say not the Jays, Tigers when they get Miggy back, Astros.... Orioles maybe? Rays perhaps? Scary prospect up only 3 games.
