  1. I suppose it depends on who "the others who understand" are... My guess is that not one poster on here will have been right about every move for the whole year. My own GMing would show me to be wrong about Hicks, Santana, Arcia, and Pelfrey, but right about Milone, Hughes, Gibson, and Hunter. Everyone will have some things to brag about, and to complain about. If anyone wants to criticize the Twins for apparently not "maximizing" the talent, they should also laud the Twins for having the options available which has allowed them to be wrong about Stauffer, Tonkin, Nolasco and Arcia and still be 10 over .500. Whether or not we're wrong about May, at present, we have the depth to be wrong, which is a good thing. As for May, I did look into May's solid xFIP and FIP. His FIP is brought down by a probably unsustainable top 15 in baseball HR/FB. His xFIP which uses league avg. for HR/FB is held down by his probably unsustainable 1.9 BB/9ip. I would guess that his FIP with his career avg. walks would be pretty darn close to his current ERA. IF his walk and HR rates aren't sustainable, then the Twins probably made the right move and maybe saved us a couple of those games come the end of the year!
  2. Thanks for "teaching" me. Despite the condescending tone of your post, I'll respond. I'm happy you see that his sub-2.00 BB/9ip is probably unsustainable. Re: GO/FO being reflected in his BABIP, you know what I meant. I didn't bother looking up his hard hit % (subjective) his HR/FB, his line drive %, IF%, etc. I just know that a high BABIP will represent 1) luck, 2) defense, or 3) strength of contact. Neither of has posted any stats saying that it's one over the other. So if you want to believe it's all luck, I won't stop you. I'm more of skeptic, perhaps it's because I can't see luck explaining getting a total of 2 outs in a start, or maybe it's my personal bias of actually watching him pitch. Again, I think he's talented. I think he's improving and he's got a chance to be very good. I just don't think he's the best pitcher currently on the staff and am not offended by his move to the pen, especially since Molitor seems to believe he can be quite useful there based on his comments about not wanting to send him down until they see what they have.
  3. Hey! Always like seeing back-ups who can bunt, as they are often asked to do so!

    Hicks

Careful sabre-guys, "confidence" is a first-cousin to "clutch"! I agree though. From a human perspective, let alone a fan perspective, it's nice to see Hicks have some success and look like he's having fun up there. There was a time where it was painful to watch, and Hicks would basically go up there just hoping to draw a walk. He's swinging hard now. Now he just needs to pass the magic ballet shoes on to Santana.
  5. If Gibson can keep K-ing like this, he becomes potentially elite...
  6. Of course if I had to work Sundays....
  7. I think the Twins party too hard on Saturday nights. We always seem like we're hung over on Sundays..
  8. His walk rate is NOT similar to anything he's done in the past. 3.57 in AAA, 1.97 this year. If you think he can keep that up, awesome. I hope you're right. BABIP is still somewhat controllable, as it's a fairly decent measure of type and strength of contact. For instance, ground balls are most likely to become outs, line drives most likely to become hits, then there's peripherals for the peripherals, etc. Focusing on stats that take the most variables out of the equation makes sense. Ignoring his historical marks in the same peripherals used to buttress your argument are not. Keep in mind, my original argument was to consider moving May back into the rotation over defacto ace, Phil Hughes. It's not like I hate the guy. I just think despite his early results this year, he has a long way to go regarding his ability to locate and go deeper into games.
  9. How about past performance... of his peripherals and direct stats.
  10. Hey, Phil Hughes has actually pitched out of the pen before, and well, if I remember... He isn't pitching better than any of other starters, although I'm not sure he's pitching better than anyone in our pen either... I have nothing to base this on, but I feel like Hughes would be more receptive to a move to the pen. That said, I'm not as convinced as others that May is our current or future ace. His peripherals seem boosted by his K rate and unsustainable low-walk rate (1.97). To me he looks wild within the strike zone which contributes to the high BABIP (.342). When the BB stabilize his xFIP and ERA will both climb. I would say pitchers termed "effectively wild" tend to be more effectively wild in the Pen. But he's young so who knows. I just don't think it's wise to bank on his peripherals, or view him as our Ace as some have.
  11. Just met his wife out in center field selling raffle tix. Nice family and good for him.
  12. 1)call long John silvers. 2)drive there and pick up shrimp during challenge. 3)drive home, Crack open beer and watch the rest of the game
  13. Victor Martinez doing his best torii hunter impression. .
  14. Phil Hughes doing his best Scott baker impression. ..
  15. Pelfrey pitched fine I thought. If we could rewind a couple weeks, and then fast forward with May in the rotation, I'm not confident that May would have done any better, and he almost certainly would have gone out earlier. At least Pelf saved the pen. Not sure what more you can ask for from a 5 starter than to go toe to toe with a Cy winner giving up two through 7... I just wish we had better bull pen options, but Boyer's been good before his recent swoon. Pens get hot and cold, and I would think we're working on getting some help. I can see a case for bringing in May, but again, not sold that the results would have been different. How many times has May pitched an eighth inning in his entire career? Any?
  16. Do we take any credit for Swarzak or Hendricks?
  17. He also looked super-wild. He was bailed out an awful lot by college kids swinging with their eyes closed, at least in that video. Velo and slider still impressive.
  18. Same boat. I just voted... like 15 times... apparently there's no limit... sort of addictive, sort of annoying... I'm already over it, but everyone should vote Dozier!
  19. Well if that's not a Twins Daily call... Nice job Swain and GCTF, you got the outs wrong bud.
  20. Time for Dozier to get some momentum toward the All-Star game. A walk-off would help.
  21. Just when I thought our days of seeing Nunez as DH were over...
  22. I would bet on Sano in a foot race with Nunez if you gave me 6/5 odds.
