I'm not ready to give up on Blankenhorn just yet. I think he is going to take the Max Murphy route. It is the long way around but I still think he is going to be a special hitter. He had great success to start the season so he can do it just needs to change his approach a little.

Hoping they can sell on Kintzler, Garcia and Dozier. I am torn on Santana. Will he bring a big enough return back to make it worth trading him? If not then just hang onto him until we have more competent starters in place.

This trade looks good for what JRM has been for the Twins. Really this trade is Aaron HIcks for a reliever and when you look at it that way it doesn't feel as good as it could. Still happy the FO is hunting for pitching.

I just don't think we have the pitching depth we need to compete with Cleveland and KC and our bats are nothing special either. I think we could hover around 500 with the remaining schedule but to what end really? This just doesn't have the look of a playoff team as there are too many weak links. Santana, Dozier, Esco and now Garcia are not a part of the core teams future. If we can get younger more controllable assets for those players we should. If possible they should trade for pitching, pitching and more pitching. Now is the time for the FO to get creative with three teams trades or whatever to try and find the pitching depth they need for the future. If they can trade Santana and Dozier and then Garcia and Santiago come off the books there should be money to get a pitcher or two in FA as well. I think this team needs to continue to invest in young pitching prospects kind of like the Braves have been doing. Eventually a couple of those guys are going to work out and then they can compete. If by chance they miss the Sano window they appear to have a better balanced group of prospects coming up about four years from now. They could keep some of the current core intact and move the window back as well. They really need to straighten out their pitching depth before this team has any chance of getting to and winning in the playoffs.

Barnes and Widell have looked good early at Elizabethton as well. I really like both of them and agree they along with maybe Colina will be moved to Cedar Rapids. I am not sure if they will move Enlow and Leach there or not. If they do I agree that would be a pretty exciting rotation as well. I was hoping Balazovic was going to be a fast riser but it looks like he might take a bit longer to get to Cedar. If the Pitching holds for Cedar Rapids that is going to be a monster team next year at least for the first half.

Wondering if Gore is going to get Moved to A ball as he is or was hitting 400. He is older so would be nice to see him move faster.

That Elizabethton lineup is crazy good. Lots of 20 year olds there doing really well with the bats. If that group moves to Cedar Rapids next year they are going to have an All Star lineup. The Only problem might be pitching. Not sure if they can find enough really good arms. At any rate I am pretty excited about that group moving through the system.

Article: BREAKING: Twins Acquire Garcia From Braves
Dman replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess I am a little surprised the Braves settled for that deal I thought Garcia was possibly one of the next best pitchers to acquire after Sonnie G. I thought the Braves might have held out for more but maybe this was far and away the best deal they were going to get. Don't get me wrong it is a good get for the Braves. It is a move I wish the Twins could have pulled off in prior seasons. I still think Ynoa makes it as a high upside reliever in MLB. If everything works then he can be a starting pitcher as well. He is a long ways away though and the Twins have other young arms to work with as well. I think it was a good trade for the Twins to make. The Twins are desperate for just average pitching and the FO got something done without giving up too much of the farm. We'll see how this works out 5 years down the line. -
Man Chatty has been good in the second half but all the starters up there seem to be doing really well. I have been really impressed with Rodriguez. His transition went really well. There is stable of guys that should be options for the big club this year and for sure next. So when does the other show drop and they move Romero or Gonsalves or both up to AAA? Once that happens Chatty should be more beatable.

Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To be honest I am a little bit. The thing is the Twins aren't in a great position to be buyers and currently don't have great assets to sell that won't impact the current team. A team that is currently in contention. You have to be willing to have the resources to overpay if you are going to be a buyer at the deadline. I think most GM's around the league realize the position the Twins are in but I do worry that when we come calling other GM's won't take us seriously. -

I appreciate the FO getting out there and trying to find a deal. I for one am glad they are not going to overpay for the kind of pitcher that will come much cheaper in the next three weeks. Will be interesting to see what Atlanta gets. They seem to be master traders always getting more value than they deserve. Keep working Twins FO maybe a better deal is out there. -

I agree with you. I thought good catchers bought you more than paying all the salary of a rental. If they are going to use Garver as trade chip then trade for something for the future don't just give him away. If I were the Twins I would just stand pat. Lower tier teams will be willing to dump for salary by August. This guy is not a difference maker and looks like an injury risk to boot. -

Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If it is for Garver I am hoping the deal falls through. Giving up all those years of control of catcher who might actually be able to hit for an injury prone pitcher that is gone in three months is not a good deal. If Atlanta pulls this off I want their front office to be our front office. -

Especially when it is an area we are weak in as it is. I don't know what prospects are being discussed but my guess is we don't match up well with Atlanta wants or needs in the return. I guess if the return is a reliever then that makes some sense as we are not going to be able to keep all of them from the rule 5 draft anyway. Just don't make a weakness more of a weakness please. -

It is just that when other teams get involved then bidding wars can start and suddenly getting the guy you want becomes more important than the price. I hope that isn't the case in this deal. -

Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally I am fine if they don't get this done. I don't want them to overpay for a guy that they control for three months for a team that is highly unlikely WS bound. Let another team overpay. -

Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided
Dman replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I said at the break if they would go 500 over the next month they should stand pat. Santana and Dozier can be traded in the off season as well as the deadline. I think it is too dangerous for the front office to sell while we are around 500 and in the race for the division and a wild card spot. I think we have young arms that can come up and solidify the pen. Our starting pitching isn't great but has held their own this last week. They have Colon and Gee to plug in for now and could maybe use Gonsalves and Romero yet later on as well. I think they need to just keep going with the team they have. -
Article: Making Zack Granite Fit
Dman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think anything happens for Granite until the trade deadline or an injury. It is hard to trade position players at the deadline but if a team gave up something good for Grossman that would be ideal as Granite slots best in that role. I think rotating and platooning that outfield while not giving up defense is a better long term strategy. Also Granite works well as a late inning pinch runner to steal a base. Lots of people on this board and scouting reports don't think he can be an everyday player as his OPS is weak for MLB. Granted it is at 900 right now but there is a lot of season left and I don't think he has had a MILB season with even an 800 OPS. I am a big Granite believer and I think ultimately he proves the skeptics wrong but I think we will have to wait until there is room on the roster before we see him. -
I am shocked. I gave the Twins no chance in this series. When they won the first one I was like awesome they won't get swept. When they won the second one i thought they got lucky. I expected them to implode today and they got the sweep. Just stunning. It is as if the baseball gods were against Cleveland as they had opportunities is these games but just never really converted. Well it is game on now.

I know small sample size and all but they should move Albanese to Cedar Rapids and move Whitefield up to High A. Then both players could be better challenged.

Article: 2017 Draft Signings, Notes and Rumors
Dman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I agree that relationships are important I am not sure how much that applies to Rooker in this situation. Three Fourths of the guys he is going to "bond" with down there aren't likely to make it to his level. They also aren't going to change his swing in Elizabethton either. I think the value to going there is low. Given his age, playing against tougher competition as soon as possible is far more important. I think Kieth Law mentioned there are already a handful of guys his age in MLB already. His draft stock was lowered because of his age. I think the team that takes him needs to be as aggressive as possible to get him from point A to B. Yep two weeks in E-town won't hurt him but again I am not seeing an incredible benefit to sending him there either.- 132 replies

Dman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with you. If the best college hitter can't make it past Elizabethton they can't believe in him that much. Cedar should be the lowest he goes with an early chance at high A so that he can possibly start in AA next year. This guy isn't 18. He is older and talented. He can handle it.- 132 replies
