  1. I'd lock up Buxton and Berrios. Kepler and Rosario are good players, but haven't yet shown the upside. I'd wait on Sano, lets find out if he sticks at third this year. He isn't getting Josh Donaldson Money if he isn't playing third base.
  2. very true, and agreed, but that won’t stop Levine from trying to get value out of Hughes
  3. Agreed, competent is a great way to describe Falvine. I have not yet seen evidence of advanced ”GMing” but I feel like Falvey and Levine have shown savvy and political awareness that Ryan never did. Shrewd in the context can have positive connotation... Mostly I just wanted you to give evidence to your assertion. It wasn’t clear to me what you meant or what...
  4. From Webster’s“a : marked by clever discerning awareness and hardheaded acumen shrewd common sense b : given to wily and artful ways or dealing a shrewd operator” Notice no mention of innovation? I’d say the FO is absolutely savvy and has done a good job of implementing clever ways to improve. Case in point: Rowson was a very good hire. The analytics dept improvement was very aware and keen to the situation at hand. Innovative? No that ship sailed a while ago. So what has the FO done that isn’t “shrewd”? Give a reason why they aren’t shrewd, or even good at their jobs?
  5. This is why I keep coming back to TD Tom. Great work!
  6. Gordon was right around .750 OPS in pitching friendly double A Nooga last year with 9 jacks. year one he doesn’t make up for the loss of Dozier, but maybe year two with the improvement in fielding and some additional power in maturity. I don’t think you’d lose so much that you had to go out and spend big bucks. That being said, if Levine can work out the right deal in free agency, it’d be great to see Dozier back. I think it’s more likely he gets a 5 year 60-70 mil contract that the Twins won’t beat.
  7. the only surprise is that he’s already laid down his “go ahead and offer the QO, I won’t accept it” card. A rejected QO (with pick attached) would have to drepress his value on the open market
  8. It seems to me that the Twins haven’t rushed players, so much as weighted the developmental league playing time too heavy in the A ball levels and too short in AA and AAA.
  9. what do you do with Frazier if/when Sano is ready to man the hot corner? If he could be had so cheaply, could you trade him for anything of value? I have doubts Nunez is at least somewhat versatile.
  10. if and that’s a big if, everything works out right, that’s a middle of the pack rotation
  11. Escobar looks like your starting 3rd baseman for 60-80 games, maybe the whole season. With that in mind, I wish the ST Fodder competition for Adrianza was a bit higher quality. If Sano isn’t firing on all cylinders, Moli will probably want another super-utility instead of Vargas
  12. I fail to see how winning a gold glove is evidence of Aybar being a good fielder
  13. Good write up! Well reasoned and good comp on Chatwood. I think 14 mil AAV is about right for Lynn. I’d like to see the Twins sign him for 2-3 years if possible, but if the 4th year is what it takes to get it done, so be it. I don’t think this is the year to get an ace. Maybe with all the big money being swapped next year, a trade could be finagled. Of course the ace is preferred, at least Lynn (assuming health) significantly improved the middle of the rotation.
  14. No, I refuse to read between the lines. I don’t have the background to jump to the same conclusion. It’s just as likely to me that Molitor got his butt chewed by Levine over saying something like that to the press. I have no idea Sano broke a bone in his leg that required a rod to be inserted into the bone in order for it to heal. He was just recently cleared for baseball activities. I don’t see that as “giving him a pass”, as I see it, it’s realism. Should he show up in shape? Absolutely. Do I know what exactly that entails? No. As far as durability related to taking care of himself, I’m not sure how closely related those are. The conception with pitchers seems like big is good in regards to durability and small is bad. How is pitching unrelated? Sanos last injury was Tommy John, a pitchers surgery, and Sano is big. Being in shape wouldn’t have helped him with fouling a ball off his leg, unless being skinny provides a smaller target to hit. Maybe he should be a bean pole so he could dodge a baseball being hurled in his general direction at 90 miles per hour?
  15. everyone learns differently. Everyone coaches/teaches differently. I struggle with coming to a conclusion about Sano or his coachability. Maybe it is just that and Molitor is using the media to make his point. Maybe it’s just a description of the process that coaches go through with players. I’m not sure how Sano’s relationship with his coach plays into this. If I were Levine my concern would be durability and the rest would largely depend on the results of the MLB investigation. Coaches/managers come and go
  16. seems like you might be right. I just got the official. Trevor May to the 60 day DL. No surprise there. It would be really quick to be game shape before June 1
  17. My phone just provided the release from the Twins regarding signing Sanchez but nothing on who got removed to make room. Any word?
  18. the opening day rotation has not improved; Odorizzi is not better than Santana. Odorizzi has the opportunity to be better than Santiago and clearly the 6th through 10th starters in the rotation are much improved over Dillon Gee, et. al. It depends on how Santana and Berrios pitch, if Berrios continues to improve and Erv doesn’t regress and recovers well from surgery the rotation has improved. Getting another impact start like Lynn or Arrieta (higher risk, much higher reward) could really push the rotation up a notch
  19. Phil Miller has a really good article on this subject. http://m.startribune.com/with-his-minnesota-twins-contract-expiring-what-s-next-for-joe-mauer/474397383/
  20. just going out on a limb, but I believe AZ was saying s/he’d be ok if more homers stayed in the park, as then they would be a part of the BABIP metric.
  21. https://www.mlb.com/news/jake-odorizzi-gets-twins-closer-to-contending/c-266677752 Richard Justice says it well. I’ll paraphrase- Good start, now go get one of the top 3 free agents still out there to really prove contention.
  22. Not a front of the rotation improvement, but the middle looks a lot better. Curious what the full package of prospects entails Still kinda frustrated about Sanchez
  23. i was disappointed with the half hearted stab at Darvish. If their best offer is 30% off projection and 11% off the winning bid, they were never serious. Now after a major league deal, even non guaranteed, with Sanchez I’m down right PISSED OFF! Minor league with Sanchez or signing Garcia, or another 3rd tier, fine, but mashing the panic button on Sanchez... ugh
  24. come now, semantics about how to poetically describe one of the best hitting and fielding catchers to have ever played? Why is a little hyperbole regarding our guy such a bad thing? He was unequivocally GREAT as a catcher. Brain injuries robbed him of some continued great years, but he’s rebounded. It’s not his fault is owner and GM haven’t done anything to get that team over the hump of playoff contender to WS contender. He was GREAT and is now good and agree it’ll be very interesting to see how this unfolds.
