  1. James, I agree with you. King Theo was paid 18.5M to turn the loveable losers around, and he's been there longer than Ryan. Winning out so the Twins can get the 4th pick is as a good a reason as they have had in some time.
  2. It is counterintuitive to interpret one Terry Ryan quote so rigidly, as to assume they will never spend one penny on free agent starting pitching, now or ever.
  3. I fail to see a conflict in my posts. Ryan will spend money on starting pitching this offseason, he knows now is a very good time, but actually has until the winter of 2014/2015. I think he will add 1 and probably 2 starting pitchers better than what we have. I consider that to be big and significant. You misquoted me................. the parade starts in 2015.
  4. I don't believe those in the national media predicting an early turnaround are going to change their tune or many on this board for that matter. Like the article said, Ryan will probably pursue low profile free agents, but that's not where the true success of the rebuild will come from. Most of the names of the players who will turn the Twins around are already known to us.
  5. I don't believe too many people are losing sleep knowing Arcia, Buxton, Hicks, Presly, and possibly even Rosario will be maning the outfield in the not too distant future. The Twins have suitable odd and ends, or if need be can find others until the permanent solution arrives, sooner rather than later.
  6. The task this winter is to add 2 starting pitchers better than Corriea and Gibson. This should be doable. If the task were to add 2 front end starters, when there may only be 50-60 1's and 2's in all of baseball, the task gets much more difficult. But, I wouldn't be surprised if he added another piece somewhere else. A lot of other teams are in the heavy rebuild mode, so I'm guessing this winter will be fairly active.
  7. Maybe you should start a 2nd poll. By that late date, we will probably be well on our way to our 2nd ROY.
  8. If you walked into the locker room and said that to the players, you wouldn't be safe at all. Once they put their jocks on and walk on to the field, yesterdays forgotten and it's time to win. Think Crash Davis.
  9. 6. Think about RB...............RB is entertaining........Has anyone from North Dakota ever been on TV before?.......I don't think RB would make it as big as the Kardashians, but I think he would do just fine.
  10. Ryan will remain in charge until the Twins are back on top and he can joyfully return to semi-retirement. It's no real secret what happens when an organization panics 22 months into the rebuilding process. I really question how important it is, if Gardy stays or leaves. Maybe it's time to throw the disaffected a bone. If anyone expects there is going to be real change in The Twins Way, they will be very disappointed. But, that doesn't mean there won't be increased spending sometime between now and the winter of 2014/2015.
  11. The Twins will take the BPA. That said, I believe they will take a college player who can make his way to Target Field ASAP. When Ryan took 30 days of Morneau, and wallet full of 2.3M in large bills to spend 4 days in Indianapolis, I don't believe he was looking for Presly and a PTBNL. He was trying to snatch one of the Pirates top starting pitching prospects. IMO the Twins will sacrifice ceiling to get players on the field, sooner rather than later.
  12. The Twins at no time referred to him as one of the top 15-20 pitchers in all of baseball. How do you know what statistics they looked at? Every pitcher, in the heat of the moment etc., forgets to get in proper fielding position at some point in time. This hardly qualifies as horrible forced mechanics.
  13. I agree with you. I think one poster listed 6 players he felt Doumits continued presence was impacting and/or blocking. Does anyone really believe the rebuilding process is being impaired in any way, shape, or form? As another poster stated, he is merely a bridge until the position player cavalry arrives and will be traded for a Butera type return to continue to restock the farm system.
  14. Lightfoot789 you make a very good point. The difficulties at the major league level have masked the excellence of our minor league organization and our scouting for that matter. I had the same thought, if they could just show the same progress next year. But in reality, they will show the same progress every year. The only change is since June of 2012, we are now drafting at the top, instead of near the bottom. The organization has always been in place.
  15. I think the thing to remember is the Twins grade their own players. Recents examples were Stewart was the consensus #4 pick, yet it came out after the draft the Twins had him at #2. Internationally Diaz was 10-14, yet the Twins reportedly signed him for $400,000 more than anyone else offered and had followed him for 2 years, just as they had Stewart. It's good fun to evaluate players on the board, but if you expect the Twins to go by these evaluations, most times you will be disappointed. I do agree he is not one of the untouchables.
  16. I never thought the caliber of opponent made much difference. Whether it's the Bad News Bears or the much dreaded Jamestown Jimmies, when the ump hands you the ball, all you care about is winning.
  17. Diamond was one of the players I was hoping would cement a place in the rotation during the open auditions, but it hasn't happened. Still feel he has a future as the next one up next season. Dozier did what I was hoping several others would, he has made a strong case to be a core member going forward. Dozier somewhat belatedly has given signs he can be a borderline All-Star and it makes no sense to me to consider moving him to SS. Fix one problem at a time and then move on to the next. There is plenty of next to go around.
  18. Swarzak has finally found a spot where he shines, why make a change? He's not going to fix the black hole, but appears he can contribute to the future as a long reliever. There does come a time to take what you can get and move on to the next candidate. Not really unlike Perkins and both have been in the organization since 2004.
  19. I agree this winter is the time to be decisive. I think Ryan is going to pull a rabbit out of his hat. I always felt congestion on the 40-man roster was smoke and mirrors. I'd have a difficult time coming up with more than 26-27 players to keep as we stand, and even being overly protective with the Rule 5 players, I believe we have all kinds of room.
  20. Like your ideas, but can't see spending money on an outfielder. Arcia, Buxton, Hicks, and Presly will be more than adequate. Spend the money on starting pitchers.
  21. Good job on the article! I wasn't expecting much this year and wasn't disappointed. I look at it a little differently. 2013 Actual Hicks, Pressly, Arcia, Gibson, Thielbar, Presly, Pinto 2014 Projected Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Meyer, May Some played their way into our future plans and probably an equal number played themselves out of consideration. I would also add Dozier someplace. The future is much clearer than it was.
  22. I don't share your concerns. By the time a player gets to play for money, they have already experienced losing at some point along the way. Also, it's easy to forget many of our International players grew up surrounded by a different type of losing.
  23. Konerko is a good example. He was one of the top prospects in all of baseball when the Dodgers gave up on him at the same age as Arcia. He was then traded twice in 6 months before finding a home with the White Sox. The Twins have always shown a lot of patience with their top prospects.
  24. I have personally seen no signs of Twins fans jumping left and right off the bandwagon. Since the M & M boys are no longer available, I have noticed a decrease in a segment of the free spending, highly upwardly mobile market. With all these new young players I've been reading about, I would guess we will see an increase in attendance long before the Pohlads consider pawning their best china.
  25. Chief, first the Central and then the world. Much can happen in 19 months.
