    Jenkins isn't up because of poor roster construction, injuries (him and Erod)and Erod having no options. If they Twins call Jenkins up before Erod is just another bad decision in line with other bad decisions. As much as I would love Jenkins to be up, Erod needs to be the next guy up, for reasons others have said (40 man, next year possible lock out, and Erod would need to play less than Jenkins). This FO can't seem to get out of its own way. I have said it before but as of right now the Twins go into 27 with the same issues they have right now, I believe Jeffers is the only free agent and his active roster spot must be taken with Erod. two catchers, Lewis, Clemens, Lee, Culpepper, Erod, Buxton, Keashall, Larnach, Martin, Kriedler, and Bell. With Wallner, GG, Fedko, Mendez and Roden still on the 40 man. So I can't see how they possibly put Jenkins on the 40 man until Buxton injury happens. 27 looks a lot like the last few years of .500 baseball.

    Not sure I get the logic of going to arb with him likely getting 7 million or so or paying him to avoid arb , then turning around and trading him. Why not just spend that money on the type of player they want or need? So far the picking up of the 10 million option on Polanco hasn't worked too well, but lets give it another go? Neither did paying Farmer 6.3 (plus the 250k buyout in 2025) to avoid arbitration. If the Twins don't have a minor league player/prospect that can give them under 5 WAR over the next 6 years the FO should be fired.

    Actually he is saying hello, because his OPS hasn't dropped .200 points not because he is 21 or because the Tigers don't have better options. The idea that a player 23 or younger has to out perform guys in their late 20's in AAA is crazy talk. If those guys in their late 20's weren't doing that they were would selling insurance or playing overseas not playing in the minors. A 21 got to AAA because they have the skills to be a superstar someday. By that logic the Stevensons, Keirsay and Wallner's of the world would be getting all the chances and the young guys would just wouldn't and the league wouldn't have the JROD, Merrill, Tatis, Chourio, Acuna's and others.

    Maybe unproven was a bit harsh, He will be 29 next year, and has a career .676 OPS, better this year and his OPS+ is still 100. The Twins don't need another average major league player, the roster is filled with them. If the Twins are going to bring in somebody from outside the Organization to play a defensive position it better be someone that is much better than average.

    Didn't say Jenkins, I said 17 games for outfielders or outfield prospects. It could have been Larnach, Wallner, Martin, Roden, GG, Keashall and healthy outfielder on the 40 man. Now if it was me it wouldn't have been Larnach, Waller, Martin of Roden. I am for getting the young guys up and seeing what you have and not brining them up late and then having them be average or worse for multi years until finally at 29 and when they actually cost real salary end up being a platoon player. For example Larnach has spent time in the the majors for the last 6 years and has a total of 4.4 WAR, not terrible but not great either, The hope is that one of Twins prospects can put close to that up yearly. The Twins could have straight up cut Wallner, Larnach, and Martin after the 23 season and they would be no worse off today (again not what I would have done). I have wanted Jenkins up for some time now, but I think that ship has or should have sailed for this year, they choose Culpepper (which I am fine with) but they need to get ERod up in the next 6 or 8 games and figure out what they have with him. Imagine they trade him this offseason without every seeing him play and he ends up being a player between Ortiz and Steer, the fans are going to be pissed.

    But they have started him 52 times (34 at SS, 15 at 3B, 3 at 2B), Which means it pushed Krieder out to the outfield 17 times. So by extension it cost at minimum 17 games for outfielders or outfield prospects, no?

    He shouldn't even be offered arb, like they should have done with Farmer, unless they think they can pull off a trade like the did with Seattle, I mean if you can get a old flash in the pan RP, an injured SP and a young prospect like they did with Polanco.

    The Twins are 3 games under .500, currently have 6 guys with a WAR over 1.1 and one of them is an outfielder who is on the DL, and there isn't a spot for one of the top outfield prospects who runs out of options this year? Roster construction has been a huge weak spot for years and continues this year. I get that if they call up Jenkins he has to play in 36 or more of the final 41, but Erod really only needs to play in 20-25 to get his feet wet and see what he has before handing him a spot next year, or trading him away because they are worried about losing their backup catcher next year or getting Roden at bats? I have seen enough of Martin and Roden to say there only role on the Twins going forward should be the 12th or 13th player on the active roster at best.

    Why not wait until 28, he will only be 22 next year and if it isn't a full year, why waste that time?

    Did miss the starters that missed the whole year prior to this year? The guys they were counting on prior to this year pretty much pitched the whole year, I didn't mention this year, because they have not been as lucky, but counting on Festa was never really an option.

    Hasn't that been the case every year since 2023 (in 2022 they signed Bundy and Archer) with starting pitching and really no holes in the lineup? 2023 - Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Ober, Maeda (with former minor league starter of the year in Varland as back up) 2024 - Lopez, Ryan, Ober, SWR, Paaddack (with Festa, Varland, Matthews as back up) 2025 - Lopez, Ryan, Ober, SWR, Paddack (with Festa, Mattews a back up) 2026 - Ryan, Ober, SWR, Bradley, Matthews (with Morris, Rojas, Prielipp, Able as back up) (2027 does look better than this) Could do the same thing with the lineup, no real holes just need a 1B and a vet or two to compete. (Hasn't worked out to well) The lineup has been filled with hopes and dreams of Buxton staying healthy, Wallner, Kepler, Castro and Lewis returning to their peak, Larnach, Lee, Keaschll, Miranda, Julien, Martin, Gasper, Keirsey develop. As it currently sits, the beginning of next year feels much like the beginning of this year. Hoping Buxton stays healthy, the catchers are league average (unless somehow Jeffers is back), Hopefully Lee gets better or at least doesn't regress, Lewis finds consistency with a set position ( or at least health), Culpepper keeps growing, ERod is good and healthy, and somebody between Keaschall, Martin, Larnach, Martin, Jenkins step up for the third OF spot, and Clemens doesn't regress. (I understand and hope things are different this offseason and they actually start building a better roster) Others have said resign Bell that leaves next year's roster at 2, catchers, Bell, Clemens (1B), Lewis (2B), Culpepper (SS), Lee (3B), Buxton(CF), Keashall (LF), ERod (RF), Bench of Martin, Kreidler, Larnach. (With Wallner, Roden, Mendez, Gonzalez as other 40 man)

    Well that team did go on to win 70 games and was loaded already with average major league players, had 7 starters start 140 of 162 games, and had what some thought was one of the better bullpens in the game, so maybe the stink was well placed? In 2024 they had 6 starters start 144 games, brought in Margot Santana and went on to finish 4th in the Division (they did finish 82-80) The Twins have been crazy lucky for the most part with starting pitching injuries the last few years and haven't supplemented it with an offense to go with it, but sure they have brought in some pretty good platoon players to be a .500 team. There never seems to be an opening to fill on this team because the roster construction has been built on hope that the guys the developed turn into something than average (and most haven't been good on defense, double killer)

    I don't think people on here underestimate the value of role players that are absolutely needed for a winning team. IMO it has more to so with not liking a roster full of them and hoping to be a .500 team.

    and by the end of year it didn't matter because they were not a playoff team (Hopefully changes this year) and prospects weren't given a chance to see what they had and started piling without really knowing what they have.

    Honest question, with an infield of Culpepper, Lee, Lewis, and at some point hopefully Houston, and an outfield of Buxton, Erod, Jenkins, Roden, Larnach, Wallner, Keashall, Martin, GG, Mendez and Clemens somewhere, where are they going to spend money? Catcher maybe (Jeffers?) maybe another starter? They could try to upgrade from Lee to make him a utility player, but not much on the FA front for infielders. To me it seems like basically the same team as this year and the past few. (I am not arguing the bullpen isn't better or players haven't gotten better, just saying without some or a lot of movement away from players currently here, there isn't many spots to actually spend money. They could move on from Larnach, Wallner, Erod and sign Arozarena or Ward type to play left?

    Yea I wasn't try to argue with him (except maybe on that a 21 year old has to outperform at 28 year out in AAA to be called up. Obviously the Twins think they have their best players up to compete and aren't worried about the future based on how they aren't giving any of their prospects on the 40 man a chance. (I think pretty much everybody probably thinks that way) So it is weird to worry about the future in one hand and then completely ignore it on the other hand seemingly year after year. I mean one of our top prospects and one of the leagues top prospects next year either has to stay up all year regardless how he performs or needs to be traded or DFA's, Sure he has been hurt a lot but there have been times he has been healthy and needed to be moved up no matter how well he was playing in the minors. All my frustrations come from this year and the last few with just how terrible the roster construction has been not on other peoples comments.

    As Twins fans we worry about the 40 man and losing prospects every year, and it turns out rarely to be an actual issue, The FO has done IMO a terrible job of roster building they end up with a few spots on the 40 man that are basically unplayable and end of chasing their tails though out the year. What I don't like (and hasn't been working) is having prospects pile out in the high majors (some even on the 40 man) while the teams continue to sign and play average major league players. Then they spend time trying to get them to figure out instead of just moving on. I mean right now how many unknown outfielders (or average at best) are on the 40 man? Fedko, Gonzalez, Martin, Mendez, Roden, Rodriguez, Wallner. I get and understand having one or maybe two young guys you have to put on the 40 man to protect from losing them (Mendez/Rodriguez/Erod for example) but with that they will go into next season with them still unknowns and might have to another one or two, and since they have no idea on those players they will be required to keep one or more of Larnach/Martin/Wallner/Roden and/or sign outfielders or have Jenkins pass them and still not give them a chance. It is terrible roster construction and this has been the case the last few year. As for Wallner being done or useful I don't really know, but I do know having them both him and Larnach on the roster at the beginning of year was not the right move, since neither can hit lefties and have taken up two 40 man spots all year. If the Twins think Wallner has something left, get him up ASAP and see, if he does then don't sign Larnch or sign and trade like Polanco. If he doesn't try and trade him this off season or DFA this winter. The Twins are really not that far away from really competing, but at the same time they aren't because of so much complete unknowns on the 40 man.

    If the requirement is that a 21 year old must out perform a former major league player that is 28, or even a 25 year career minor league player (5 seasons) with a lifetime OPS of .739 then the Twins (because other teams don't do this) are screwed. Because if that is the case how do they ever give their young prospects at shot? Because it is very likely the next Wallner, Keirsay, Fedko Stevenson, Sabato, Roden, Martin, outperform him in AAA at the beginning of next season and him not being on the 40 man, means somebody else gets a shot? I mean why waste a year of service if older players are doing better or on the 40 man, is that what you are saying? Then they put him on the 40 over the 27 winter and he gets action in 28? IMO the plan should have been when he got healthy (earlier in the year) get him the majors and if he is what we hope he is offer him a contract similar to the ones you mentioned in another message, but they didn't they gave the job to the mid to late 20's guys (larnach did well at least in a platoon role) and they rest didn't and they have been scrambling with others ever since.

    I completely understand the consequences, my point was other teams called up up guys that are 21 and in a similar or same situation as the twins with 40 man spots and the upcoming lock out (when others said that doesn't happen) Doesn't matter if that was May, June, July, or August the outcome is the same no? Minus the rookie status and I personally wouldn't call either up right now and blow their rookie status. But I would call them up the day that doesn't affect that. As for the risk of the CBA (which I agree is real) doesn't that have to be weighed against the risk of not knowing what they have and are forced to sign the next round of Bell, Gallo, Bader, France, Santana and on an on? The Twins seem to go into every year with unknowns at many positions, which requires them to sign older not so great players to cover those spots because they don't seem to give them a chance until it is the last resort. Is there one fielder that locked down a spot for this team in the last few years (minus the injured Buxton) or has it been shuffling the deck chairs with the same basic people with similar results?

    Yes this is just the list of guys 21 years old or younger that were called up this year. (Its not like people have just started the Jenkins, Culpepper request to have them up since the deadline, it seems to have been a recurring theme for a while now, No?) Teams have called up players like Jenkins and Culpepper and given them a chance for as long as I have been watching baseball, Some at the beginning of the year, some in the middle and some in end, but sure lets move the goal post to teams don't do it at this time of the year, and ignore that 11 players similar to Jenkins have debuted in the majors this year, and dozens of guys Culpepper's age have a well. Didn't Cleveland call up Angel Genao today, he is a 22 year old SS (younger than Culpepper),
