    I get it. But you could see by Shelton’s pacing around the dugout late in the game, which you rarely see (or at least the cameras don’t often show) that he, like us, doesn’t consider a 5-6 run lead mop-up duty with this BP. That was my takeaway at least. Hell, the Astros were one ball away from having the tying run (and one of the best sluggers in the league!) to the plate.

    I like Tristan. Keep him up. He’s had a tough stretch lately but everyone does & he’s definitely been a solid addition overall imo. Seems like a good teammate. Is he Ozzie Smith at short? No, of course not. But he’s serviceable and has come up clutch. Those two grand slams won games for us.

    Close to elite imo, but as we all know too well, couldn't rise to the occasion in the playoffs. The Twins of 2002-2010 were probably the best team in MLB to not make the World Series during that period. Despite the playoff futility, so many good memories watching those clubs.

    I'll give 'em this - they looked bad around early May, but on July 1, the Bell and Caratini signings appear to have been good decisions. They have been huge for us the past 6 weeks. But will Bell be around this time next month?

    Joe Ryan has gone past 6 innings twice this season. I dunno, maybe the stats show he is one of the AL's best starters, but "the experience" hasn't quite felt like a fun trip all that often to my eyes. Even when he's been great, like in the White Sox start a few weeks back, he gives up a late homer that tied the game up. Fielding has been bad, but not an F imo. The main photo on this story is diabolical lmao ☠️

    This is just me sitting behind my keyboard judging a professional athlete, so take with a grain of salt of course, but if you're healthy enough to go to work, then excuses about being ill don't carry much weight imo. We're not talking Jordan during the Flu Game here. I said this last week - Joe was in the dugout supposedly with an illness on Monday and Tuesday, but was good enough to pitch on Wednesday? If you're too sick to work, then you should be at home resting, not at work hanging around your coworkers. Then again, I'm no conspiracy theorist, but it's not out of the realm of the possibility there was no illness and he simply wanted to pitch against Ohtani. Also, you know, don't walk two straight batters to face one of the best sluggers in baseball with the bases loaded! Of course, plenty of blame to go around with that clown show of an inning. Definitely not all on Joe. One more point: He's coming real close to showing up his fielders with his over-the-top reactions to balls going through the infield.

    I remember the broadcasters using the illness excuse to explain away 2-3 starts last second half, too.

    Seems like Joe’s high pitch counts have hurt him a good chunk of his outings this season.

    The Astros were probably due for a game like that against us. Almost came back to beat us after the rain delay game last month. Tough way to lose 6-4 though.

    For sure. This is the first year I've really ever consumed Twins content online - Gleeman's podcast, the new one with Tyler Duffey and Dan Hayes (which has become my favorite), Skor North, etc. Pretty much the tone is, Welp, I guess they're not as bad as we thought. And, of course, the old standby (which is getting tired af imo): Imagine if we still had Varland and Duran. Well, we did have those guys last year and we have the same record this year after 86 games. So...? I do appreciate the insight and passion on here. And some pretty good writing, too.

    Meant to ask - was that Josh Bell's family the camera panned to after his home run? I don't think it was mentioned on the broadcast. Just thought they seemed more excited than a typical group of Twins fan watching in Houston would be. Pretty cool if his parents were in the crowd for that dinger.

    Yet despite all their perceived weakness, how are the Twins still hanging in there? How do they have a better record than the Blue Jays right now? Or the Tigers...or the Red Sox? The RISP numbers are probably a huge factor. No way will the average stay around .300 (we're starting to see it drop over the past week).

    Geez. You'd think we'd have won 25 games by reading this article. "The Twins offense actually hasn't been all that bad?" Huh? Remember when we batted like .180 last year with the bases loaded? Now that was bad! "All the negativity in this town SUCKS."

    The bit about Banda's injury and how popular he's become in the clubhouse bummed me out. Seemed to me like to me he wasn't too thrilled to be here after being with the back to back champs (couldn't blame him!), but sure appears now that Banda's made the most of his time with the Twins.

    Pretty cool to see a quote from a vet like Josh Bell, who's obviously been around the league awhile, saying in the Athletic today that this team is the tightest one he's been on. I'll take him at his word.

    We believe! Look, it's been a very entertaining season so far - from games in the fog & snow (seems like forever ago) to some seriously dramatic wins & tough losses. Frustrating & demoralizing at times, yes, of course. They've gotten very little respect so far from podcasters, bloggers, beat writers, etc., but no one can say this year's Twins doesn't have heart. I'm with this team till the wheels off. And will stick around even after that 🤣 Like Aaron Boone said the other night, "You've got to love this stuff. You've got to eat this stuff up. It's a sickness. That's what the grind is."

    Unknown yet. They'll announce a timeline after the surgery. Probably won't see him back this year though, is my guess.

    The bullpen has obviously been playing with fire, but by my math, I think we've only one lost one game this month (knock on wood!!) when leading after 7 innings (the Saturday game against KC). Says more about our offense than anything (and the bullpen kept us out of some close games too), of course, but still, most teams not named the Dodgers would be satisfied with that. Win or lose tonight, we had a winning June.

    Two final points: 1) Sneaky good flip by Kody at the end! He might’ve beat that out otherwise. 2) I hope Vic doesn’t have a concussion. He looked woozy.
