  1. There are a lot of potential Mauer jokes here - but since I am a Mauer apologist, I will not make any of them.
  2. This is going to be the game and SERIES winning moment next October when we take the championship. It will be somewhat unexpected.
  3. When you are discussing the ERA being funny - it is not a good sign.
  4. True - not everyone has Punto's ability to pull it off safely. He probably watched Nick growing up and was imitating his style and without Punto's skills, and not realizing it should be a first base head slide, ended up hurting his thumb. Hopefully it will not be something that will linger through the season and he will have learned something. This has to be frustrating for him after spending so much time on the DL last year.
  5. This probably does not need to be said, but As Expected.
  6. Time to revive the fork thread.
  7. I am kind of hoping their departure will open the door for a Thompson Twins come-back. Who would have predicted the one on the left would end up a Twins pitcher: http://assets.rollingstone.com/assets/1984/article/why-the-thompson-twins-dont-add-up-19840719/181845/large_rect/1421687433/1401x788-103367229.jpg
  8. It is funny when you think back at how much hand wringing there was as 2000 approached - VCRs won't work -- planes will drop from the skies etc. and then it was a huge non-event. Do some of the more senior posters remember if there was the same hype leading up to Y1K?
  9. A lot of reckless statements tonight without really thinking of the potential consequences and ramifications that could never be undone.
  10. Did your great grandchildren take it hard?.
  11. You are good with the photo-shop skills. Granted a lot of your work is somewhat disturbing and gives me nightmares, but it is good work.
  12. This might be the understatement of the year -- creating or opening a gateway to alternate universes never ends well. It is not like the alternate universe will have things like strange but wonderful things like a dynamic, animated Joe Mauer or a five time super bowl champion MN Vikings -- it is more like this: http://d.justpo.st/images/2013/01/0222510b8139f113390a9aa6332a91d9.jpg
  13. It is about time someone started a Mauer thread....
  14. This was from the last episode of the series -- it took a dark turn and gave the show a much bleaker ending than people anticipated and is largely pulled from the syndication cycle. http://images.sodahead.com/profiles/0/0/3/3/9/5/2/7/9/bugs-bunny-snakes-84988258829.jpeg
  15. My brother used to talk about what a waste of space and money the royal family was in general, partially because he meant it, and partially because it riled up my sisters - who in high school got up to watch the royal wedding (in fairness to them - I doubt they would not do that now). The other thing he would do to trigger an argument with them was to discuss why figure skating was not a sport - but that is an entirely different topic...
  16. I will never stop talking about Princess Di's illegal wagering on cricket. Permanently damaged the game and killed the momentum of the cricket movement that had been building on this side of the Atlantic. We would probably have a new cricket stadium next to Target Field by now if not for her arrogance.
  17. Plus, think of how much potential revenue he lost by his fall from grace so to speak. All of the appearances, commentary, endorsements, jobs that he might have gotten as one of the greats in his post playing career, and instead he is often the elephant in the room. And yes, as mentioned above, in general it is sad how many players end up broke and not really understanding the short period of time they will be making the big money and not really setting aside for retirement from the game.
  18. I believe this happened - there was a picture the other day talking angrily about something into his Nokia flip phone.
  19. If anyone paid attention to the always analytically-packed, heavily-intellectual game-thread yesterday, all that is needed is for Chief to keep making home run calls. Problem solved.
  20. So you are predicting a rematch this October? Cool.
  21. In Oz you are supposed to be a character different from your real life.
  22. That might be a little unsettling, esp. if it followed the movie where the Oz characters were versions of people she new from her real life --- RB as the scarecrow -- Chief as the wizard -- Bark as a poppy pusher -- Hawk H. as one of the talking trees etc. Having to rely on these people to help her get back to Chicago. Hopefully no one will try to sing.
  23. Not to state the obvious, but that news about Justin is depressing. Hopefully this is just a relatively short set-back and nothing that is going to plague him for years, esp. with the young kids. Semi-off topic - I know there has already been some coverage of what ex-football players are experiencing, but I wonder if in about ten years we are going to find out that it is much worse than originally reported (or because of the larger size of players, more and more players are dealing with permanent repercussions).
  24. A player like Buxton comes up (if he lives up to potential) every twenty to thirty years (give or take) -- a poster like RB comes along but once.
