Abe Vigoda is still alive?! I just watched a couple of Barney Miller reruns earlier this week (had not seen the show in years). It has aged well, but wow, were there a lot of references that had gone over my head when I watched it as a kid. There were a lot of adult themed references that the writers cleverly and subtly worked in that would just be out there now. In some ways writing has gotten lazier for today's sitcoms (now I sound as if I am about as old and cranky as Abe and Sid - when I was young they knew how to write sitcoms...).
They just played the song for Dan Gladden. Somehow I have a feeling Phil would feel at home on the game threads. I now I have "Let if Go" in my head... Thanks spycake...
If baseball was around when Plato, Socrates, or Confucius were alive -- I doubt if they could have captured baseball and in life in general n such a wise and poetic manner.
Well I think a lot of people come to the game threads just to hear your sharp analysis of the game and your thoughtful observation or advice on the rare occasions you go off topic from the game, and would be disappointed if you left.
My dad said the same thing about the Angela Landsbury's character ib Murder She Wrote -- why would anyone go near her when people always died when she was around -- it was not a coincidence.
Too bad her bionic ear was so faulty she had to move her hair out of the way for it to work. http://ohmygodlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/bionic-aware-done.jpg
I don't blame Gardy for the four 90 loss season, although I think he was in a bit of a rut towards the end, and needed to go. That said, I want him to do well, and because of that, would prefer him not to be in the AL central.
I originally read the title could WARNE be replacing Pelfry, and thought I did not know he could pitch, but it is worth a try. I am kind of disappointed this won't be happening.
I know there is a lot of criticism of Mauer - and understandably so - but he has actually been pretty good in some clutch situations this season. I know people were discussing they would rather have Plouffe than him, and there are reasons why that would make sense, but I still would rather see him in a clutch situation (but I am a Mauer apologist).
There is a regular poster here who used to think largely out of the left side of his brain -- some doctors wanted to remedy that with some ill-advised brain surgery. He somehow survived -- but you can tell from his posts that something is not quite right with his mind (ok - not right at all). I will give the person some privacy and not say who he is, but he might be a moderator. Also a cruel, but true story,
