  1. It was meant with respect and reverence. You bring back jokes that people born after Ike left office would not be able to experience and appreciate otherwise.
  2. I don't think I ever said anything like that, but I am pretty sure there were times when I did not say anything when one of the "cool" kids said something homophobic or otherwise derogatory to some person or group. Either because I wanted the cool kid to like me and/or I did not want to be on the receiving end of the taunts. Nothing like folding to peer pressure to hope to get some approval of someone who s never going to give it to you and is a person you should not want their approval in the first place. I think junior high was the worst. By the end of high school I was a little more secure and saw certain people a little more clearly (not that I did not still sometimes fall to peer pressure). [i am so glad there was no social media when I was in high school for a number of reasons. There were pieces of paper passed around with people grading other people (that might have been more grade school) - I cannot imagine what is going on now.]
  3. My sister works in the career resource center at a college, and says as much as she tries to warn kids that this stuff does not completely disappear and future employers might be looking, she cannot convince them to think before posting. While employers should not really be looking at potential employees personal social median - some do, I don't think he should be branded for life or you should be accountable for everything you did as a minor, I do think since it became public he had to address it and make some sort of statement. He was also 17 and not 7. You are not an adult, but you still have to accept some responsibility for your words and actions and how you view other people. Whether he has really changed or not, time will tell. Hopefully being exposed to a broader range of people as an adult has changed his views on women, gays, and people of color etc.
  4. case in point (so much character, integrity, and moral backbone in Washington today):
  5. You know admitting a mistake is going to eat him alive and he will revert to his original thoughts at his next rally or even tonight on Tucker Carlson or in some early morning tweet. It is like when he kind of walked back his Charlottesville statement. Within a few days he had said enough things that were just as bad as his original statement and made his initial clarification null and void. I am a little bit afraid that the GOP who spoke out against him are going shut their eyes and pretend his statement today nullifies his Helsinki press conference bombshells and pretend all is well and nothing will be done. Unfortunately, I could also see the media moving on in a few days as well and then be "surprised" again when he says something similar at a later date.
  6. Be curious to see what he says in his Hannity interview. Not that Hannity will be giving him some hard-hitting questions, but sometimes when Trump is feeling comfortable and among friends. he cannot shut up and says more incriminating things than as if he was interviewed by a real journalist.
  7. McCain's statement regarding Trump's summit performance today: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DiPt4GeX0AIGmZ4.jpg:large
  8. After yesterday's somewhat ugly loss, losing today would have really put a damper on what was otherwise a good home-stand I feel like if it were the 1980's Mauer and Go-Go could have stared in a sitcom of two unlikely roommates with slightly different personalities: https://twitter.com/fsnorth/status/1018603114541166592 .
  9. It could still become a save situation... but fortunately it did not. That was two quick outs after the homer.
  10. There were four digits, it was just based on a slightly differently epoch where the higher the number of the year - the further back in time it was. http://www.cairoscene.com/Content/Admin/Uploads/Articles/ArticlesMainPhoto/718041/6df306b7-a81a-4544-847a-db416ac5e2c6.jpg
  11. You know there are certain alien leaders he would relate to and praise. He would love the Klingons (pre-joining the Federation), the Ferengi, and the Borg. Certain leaders he would have an almost school boy crush on as he compliments them and tries to emulate them. http://www.nydailynews.com/resizer/sbjb7QiNz9ev1Gcz5hm4we0vhJI=/1400x0/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-tronc.s3.amazonaws.com/public/2TPTWQYZG3FMPWIAESHKSQCQW4.jpg
  12. It was great. I had been waiting them to revive the Francis the Talking Mule franchise for years. It was worth the wait. Funny, but with some real emotional depth that stays with you long after the movie is over.
  13. I am sure that had nothing to do with his being chosen. Although, I am sure in order not to appear biased, he will recuse himself from any legal matters involving Trump. And again, the effusive praise for dear leader "no one has done as a thorough review for a Supreme Court justice." He got a short list from a conservative group and interview four people. Now Trump is going to go and insult NATO and praise Putin. Melania will get praise for standing with good posture and saying an introduction or two.
  14. That is one thing that has been frustrating about this year. They really only needed to be mediocre this year to have a good shot of winning the division and the play-offs. I would like to say that I have seen enough over the year (years) and be smart enough not to give in to false hope, but I suspect that is not the case.
  15. I am saying this way too early and the lead is not big enough, but they are also in danger or winning two in a row and not losing a series. It is like it is upside down world.
  16. Does that mean if we throw the one ring to rule them all down Trump's golden toilet in his penthouse, he will be destroyed?
  17. His resignation letter has that creepy, dear leader type of praise to Trump that all of the GOP seems to feel is necessary now. They don't mention serving the country or helping people or the environment, but they thank having a chance to serve the glory and brilliance that is Trump. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DhXiK2IVMAANsya.jpg:large
  18. Although I am pretty sure most of my writing instructors told me ending everything with an exclamation point signifies good writing and intelligence.
  19. At least he is humble: Although this might not completely explain council vs counsel --- to vs too -- (or in this case pour vs pore) and lack of coherent thought or statements not backed by fact (or contrary to fact).
  20. Kids today will never realize how exciting it could be when you found out what the new Saturday morning cartoons were going to be and how you looked forward to the fall previews.
  21. As expected... I did not realize they were allowed to get three runs in a single inning (or an entire game for that matter).
  22. I know someone who saw one of the Harry Potter movies like this and said it was pretty incredible. I did see the Avengers a couple of weeks ago. I did like it better than the last one. Without going into too much detail, they executed some of their game plans as well as the Twins. I had been meaning to see The Quiet Place, but it just left my theater. I will have to wait until it is on DVD or try to hit it at the cheap theaters.
  23. He called his rally crowd last night the super elite. Has a president ever so blatantly elevated his supporters while disparaging everyone else, not even pretending to be some unifying force where he represents everyone. Then there is probably a more than a little subtext of calling a largely white crowd the "super elite" in the same speech where he implies there are people out there, not as white, who are going to come and slice up your beautiful daughters. Anyone thing it might be a bit hypocritical that Trey "Benghazi" Gowdy is ranting about how long the Mueller investigation is taking. The GOP is now having hearings trying to discredit the investigators and force them to hand documentation over to them rather than showing any concern or interest of possible Russian interference. The country who the GOP considered the bogey man for decades, Trump might have not won by the popular vote, but he is still in the position of power, and has both houses, and now the SCT in lockstep with him. Between gerrymandering and techniques making it more difficult for people in democratic regions to vote, people really, really need to get out and vote to make it over these hurdles. The Democrats have been their own worst enemy with low mid-term turnouts which cost them in 2010 - resulting in some of the gerrymandering, and 2014 resulting in Mitch becoming majority leader helping the eventual lose of the Garland nomination.
