  1. I don't think it's a good idea to put a 20 year old kid in the majors, then spend his bullpen sessions working on a pitch that he isn't even going to throw in games. Pitching in MLB is hard enough. If his third pitch isn't ready, he should be throwing it in minor league games. All I hear is how we're a mid market team, we have to develop our own front of the rotation starters. What happened to that?
  2. Where in that post did you read any bashing?
  3. And it's disturbing that there is a voter that thinks that JJ Putz is a hall of Famer.
  4. Jeter and Walker made it. Jeter one vote shy of unanimous.
  5. You can't possibly know that. Speaking English isn't a requirement for any of those 3 traits you listed. Not even a little bit.
  6. I can buy that in theory, but have the Twins ever used a reliever in such a fashion? Also, with Hill and Pineda out to start the year, why not let Graterol start until Pineda comes back, then move him to the pen?
  7. In what way? Heading into his last season as a Twin, Plouffe was a slightly above league average hitter, just as Rosario was last year. Plouffe had nearly double the bWAR, as a competent defensive 3B, as opposed to corner outfielder.
  8. So how is he ever going to be stretched out to become a starter if they don't start now? If he's dominant out of the bullpen this year, are you really going to send him back to the minors for two years so that he can build up his innings to start again? I'm not buying the argument that he can always go back to starting later.
  9. Well the Twins already have a lot of really good players that don't speak English. What do you propose they do with them?
  10. Not speaking English is a con against acquiring a player? Or am I misreading that?
  11. Using technology to attempt to analyze players better than your opponents is not a form of cheating.
  12. What were their home/ road splits in the 2017 postseason? I don't see why they'd bother doing it in the regular season.
  13. The fact that Kyle Schwarber was also a finalist for this award tells me that it's not exclusively based on defense.
  14. You are way more optimistic than I am that these two won't just slide right back in somewhere after a year. And, none of this speaks to any punishment for the players. I personally don't understand why the players are getting off scot free.
  15. He was one level behind Turner because Turner was a 3rd rd pick, Garver was a 9th rd pick, and Garver struggled in rookie ball. Not because the club was holding him back. You are going to have to give me specific examples of when he was held back, rather than just insisting he was. He never repeated a level, and caught and passed Turner when his performance warranted it.
  16. Yeah it's not comparable. Knowing what pitch is coming is multiple times more of an advantage than PED's, it's not even close, IMO.
  17. What year was Garver held back? I can maybe see an argument that he could have skipped low A, but as a 9th round pick that struggled in a half season of rookie ball I can't really blame them for that assignment. From then on out it looks like he was promoted appropriately. He caught, then passed Turner, despite starting a level lower. He had a really good year in low A his first full year in the organization. He struggled MIGHTILY at A+ in his second year, yet the Twins didn't make him repeat high A, they promoted him to AA anyway. That's holding him back? At AA he was better, but still not great, yet once again they didn't make him repeat, they promoted him to AAA. Is that holding him back? At AAA he had a break out season, and was promoted to the Twins. I guess I'm not seeing where he was held back.
  18. What mistake? Turner was left unprotected and left, Garver is our starting C, seems the organization got that one right.
  19. In reading Pipeline's write up, I think the lofty ranking was heavily weighted by the opinion that he could be MLB ready almost immediately. That clearly wasn't the case, as he only made it to A ball, and struggled there. His position on Twins prospect lists likely reflects that updated reality.
  20. Josh Donaldson has been worth 5+ WAR every year of his career except one. What "good" player are you going to get that comes close to that for $8M?
  21. Ok, that at least makes some sense, though I still disagree with that poster. I read it as him saying that Polanco isn't very good and we should trade him before everyone else realizes it.
  22. Not only that, but a player of Polanco's performance, at his age and contract is every team's dream. I don't understand how this is even a discussion, barring a complete rebuild.
  23. Going to be tough for the Twins to recoup their investment on Yunior Severino if they really paid him a nine figure signing bonus. I'm guessing you meant seven figures?
  24. I'm surprised this thread has gone this far given the title. IMO the clear answer is yes. The end.
