  1. Probably not, but maybe. I view them a bit different though. I don't think Kolek has enough track record yet to show if he's a complete bust or not. To me, Stewart is a total bust, nothing there. But, you might be right, because it only takes one team to think there might be something there. So, I guess the bigger point to me is not if he'd be taken, but would I care? I wouldn't.
  2. He did lie about it. You don't get a migraine from a hangover. They are medically 2 completely different types of headaches. He also didn't tell him why he had a headache. A lie by omission isn't any less of a lie. Are pitchers NEVER expected to be at the park in that circumstance, or do teams sometimes tell pitchers they don't have to be there? Because those are 2 totally different things. Those are as different as me telling an employee, "Hey, tommorrow is Friday and we are kinda slow, go ahead and have a three day weekend!" And him deciding that now he never has to show up for work on Fridays because i sometimes give him Friday's off. If the Mets didn't expect him at the park then why did they suspend him? They told him he didn't have to come to the park, then retroactively changed their mind and suspended him? How does that make any sense? And if he wasn't expected at the park, why would he even call in with a migraine in the first place? There would be no need to even do that if he was not expected to be there.
  3. We'll have to disagree I guess on how much evaluation can be done in ST.What was the evaluation of what Gibson was going to look like this year based on ST? Ok, theoretically someone could take a flyer on Stewart. But right now that would be crazy. And even in the small chance someone does, the odds that you don't get him returned is tiny.
  4. And the GM hires the development staff - as well as the scouts. So it doesn't matter whose "fault" it is, to me, the buck stops with the GM- or whatever a given team calls their top boss.
  5. If you wait until after next year then Sano is already into his ARB years and probably wouldn't have as much incentive to sign a long term extension. The incentive to the player now is that they haven't really gotten paid yet (Aside from bonus), only making roughly 500k per year. I think the window for a long term deal is the next 10 months. You either get it done in that frame or probably not at all.
  6. No, not that at all. I'm saying we shouldn't get upset if they don't pick who we want now, because we don't have the same data and expertise that they have. I think we should judge them based on their results. I don't think that is unfair at all given that their job is literally to scout and research and identify who the best player is going to be - and they are paid handsomely to do so. As a rube, sure I have an opinion on who I want them to take (Greene), but that is a completely uneducated opinion and I won't be upset on draft day if they take someone else.
  7. It wasn't an off day, it was a game day. Just because he wasn't expected to pitch doesn't mean he wasn't expected to show up to the ballpark. Totally different than a 9 to 5 guy being hungover on a Saturday. Harvey isn't paid by the hour, his salary covers the whole season. Do starting pitchers only accumulate service time on the days they pitch? Also, he lied about it. Two points with that. One, I can't respect a grown man who lies. Looking another grown man/woman in the eye and lying to them might be about the most arrogant and disrespectful thing you can do to a person, IMO. (Aside from using the exit only lane to pass 40 cars before forcing your way in from the shoulder in rush hour, of course. ) Second, the fact he felt he had to lie about it shows that he knew he was doing something wrong. Now, all that said, he didn't go AP and assault/endanger someone, so it's not an unforgivable offense to me. I would pass, as an owner/GM, because I personally don't respect liars, but it's not something I'd get worked up over as a fan who doesn't have to sign his paychecks.
  8. Except posters here aren't paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to know and see what scouts and GM's see. I don't think it's unfair for me to expect the professionals to get the pick right just because I might not be able to. Is it unfair of me to expect a professional mechanic to rebuild my transmission correctly, even though I might not be able to myself? Will someone tell me that I have to crawl under the truck and rebuild it correctly myself before I'm allowed to criticize a professional mechanic for screwing up my transmission?
  9. I'd put it at almost 0% that this team carries Maier, Grossman, Vargas AND Park on the same 25 man roster.
  10. I feel the complete opposite as you Mike. I view Stewart as a complete bust at this point. I think, barring an epic improvement this year, there is almost no chance he's added to the 40 man. I don't see how any team could even remotely consider carrying him I their 25 man roster all season, in his current state.
  11. He didn't say it was a lock. He said almost a lock, which would imply some wiggle room if something changes. I'm not a huge fan of LaVelles writing, but the guy is usually pretty locked in with the organization. Personally I'm hoping he's wrong, because I want Greene. But when LaVelle says that as quickly and confidently as he did, then unfortunately, I tend to think he's right.
  12. LaVelle said on kfan Friday that his sources suggest that McKay is almost a lock at this point.
  13. Close to MLB ready is a terrible reason to draft a player, IMO. We've seen plenty of examples from the Twins alone of close to MLB ready picks that through injury or ineffectiveness end up taking just as long to get here.
  14. Evaluate guys that are never going to be a part of any long term plan (Belisle, Breslow, Gimenez, Adrianza, tried to get Napoli)?
  15. Judging by all their signings being low upside vets, and not trading Dozier or Santana, I'd say being fringe contenders WAS their plan.
  16. I never did either. I had them winning 71 games. But now they've found themselves in it after 5 weeks. When that happens you try to win until you fall out of it.
  17. Yep. Better send him down to AAA for a few months to perfect that command.
  18. Well we don't have that luxury, IMO. This team has no chance with this bullpen. I just don't think the transition from AA to MLB is that tough for a relief pitcher.
  19. I think they saved the Poland's some money.
  20. I don't see any reason why a relief pitcher couldn't come up from AA.
  21. Melo and Burdi are both healthy.
  22. Tepesch to get at least 1 more start, per LaVelle.
  23. Irrelevant because it has to be paid regardless? I mean, I guess. But that is true of all mlb contracts. Therefore they are all irrelevant. In which case I don't want to hear any excuses about going after an ace pitcher or two. Yes, you'll probably be overpaying for a used up arm the last few years, but that's irrelevant, right? Look, I personally don't bring up Joe's contract. He earned it at the time, he had to be retained, and that was the price. But I don't think it's fair to say its irrelevant. Like it or not, the Twins operate under a self imposed salary cap. And when you are under a salary cap, production to cost matters. It matters a lot. Of course, there is nothing we can do about that now. But that isn't the same thing as being irrelevant.
  24. Fortunately for hitters, the vast majority of pitchers can't hit their spot perfectly every time. I don't think Hicks is going to OPS over 1.100 all season, but I do think it's likely it finally clicked for him. Let's not forget he was a fairly highly regarded prospect.
