  1. So they figured out how to launch a missile really far, and a lot sooner than even I thought they could. Oh, and its breaking that they did it with help from Ukraine, possibly via Russia. This is going to get real bad, real quick.
  2. He actually throws his change 11.1% of the time, which is pretty good for a 3rd pitch.
  3. He's on pace for about 2.7-2.8 bWAR, so I'm guessing he's rounding that up.
  4. I don't disagree with any of that, really. You are right that true contenders do place value on acquiring even 1 win the rest of the way. At the time of the trade, however, they were pretty big long shots (around 6%, I believe). And to a 16:1 long shot, that one win is less likely to make a difference. I agree they could have acquired help sooner, but regarding Kintzler in a vacuum, hindsight is 20/20, I don't want the FO making bets on 16:1 shots, I want them planning for the 94% likelihood. So, I'll never have a problem with it, even if it does end up being the difference.
  5. It's great to see Rosario figuring it out at the plate. The problem is, this year anyways, he's giving almost all of it back in the outfield, and on the bases(5/11 in sb attempts, yikes!). Despite his offensive accomplishments this year, he's still accumulated less than 1 bWAR on the season. Im not going to look at every teams corner OF, but I'm still going to have to respectfully disagree that there aren't teams that can do better than 1 bWAR at each corner OF spot, and probably several, I'd imagine.
  6. Sano's offensive game is unchanged from last year? (Yarn from other thread) His OPS is 80 points higher. I agree, he's got a long ways to go to be an elite hitter, but at least give him credit for the 80 points of improvement he has made.
  7. Didn't Sano just return from a bunch of days off? Not every slump can be solved by a day off. Sometimes the remedy is to play through it.
  8. I love Sano, and given he's still barely 24 years old, I think he will be an elite hitter someday. But for now I think he's just a really good hitter, I don't think he's gained elite status yet. To me, elite means one of the 5 or 6 best hitters in baseball. He was that guy in April and May, unfortunately he's cooled off considerably since.
  9. Yeah Sano has cooled off considerably since May, but lets remember he is just barely 24 years old yet. I truly believe that someday, soon, we are going to see the slumps become fewer and shorter.
  10. Brandon Kintzler, at his current pace, will be worth about 0.55 bWAR the rest of that season. He's very unlikely to be the difference between anything.
  11. I love it. And I've always considered AA/AAA as high minors.
  12. Is this one that doesn't count, or does it?
  13. Eddie has improved big time at the plate this year. But the other part I can't agree with. I've actually seen him do more stupid stuff this year than previous years. When it comes to mental awareness on the bases and on defense, he actually seems to me to be getting worse, not better.
  14. But he could return on 9/1 and it would be less than 20 days, so it wouldn't burn an option.
  15. Whether we should have been buyers instead. Whether we make the playoffs or not. Whether we can hang with the Sox, Steps, and Dodgers if we do make it. Im just happy we'll be playing meaningful games into September. Baby steps.
  16. Verlander: Reg. Season: 3.50 ERA, 1.195 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9, 8.5 K/9 Post Season: 3.39 ERA, 1.088 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, 10.3 K/9 He's actually stepped his game up come postseason. Looking through the game logs he's had 1 dud (WS vs SF), and 3 or 4 mediocre starts, but also some shutdown starts. Like 2013, 3 starts 23 innings 10 hits 1 run 3 BB 31 K Performances like that can carry a team in the postseason.
  17. Yeah the guy suddenly couldn't get anyone out, and Mollie is trying to win the game. No problem pulling him there.
  18. Even if it makes sense with a sinkerballer, I'm not sure I've seen data that shows it's true. The one pitcher I remember it being said for a lot was Blackburn. So I checked his splits. Career OPS against: 4 days rest: (1730 PA) .833 5 days rest: (1129 PA) .844 6+ days rest: (595 PA) .753 The numbers are basically the same on 4 or 5 days rest, and on 6+ they are far better, not worse. The K and bb rates are mostly the same, btw, it's the slugging that changes. In Blackburns case he does a better job limiting hard hit balls with more rest. This is only one guy, but my hunch is that its one of those things that people say because it makes logical sense, but isn't actually true. I'd be interested in seeing more data, but I think that the advantage of extra rest more than makes up for any disadvantage, even for sinkerballers.
  19. What am I missing here? Isn't chulo a slang term that basically means cute/hot/good looking, etc.?
  20. Sorry. Certainly didn't mean to assign an opinion to you. He's been a low 4 ERA starter here, and the numbers show its not luck dependent. Yet, that doesn't appear to be good enough for you, since not all of his starts have been good (and only aces don't regularly have bad starts mixed in). I'm just trying to understand your opinion on him.
  21. Why does he need to perform like an ace to satisfy you? Since joining the Twins he's got a 4.02 ERA (4.06 FIP, so it's not luck based), and his 5.33:1 k:bb ratio suggests to me that he should be able to keep it up. That is pretty good compared to what the Twins had been getting from the back of their rotation. Saying he owes us 2 or 3 more good starts, despite the numbers above, implies that nothing short of top of the rotation production will justify him being in the rotation. Well, I don't understand that. Even with him, we still have one unclaimed spot, so he's not blocking anyone. In regards to his starts with Atlanta, sure those happened. But obviously Falvey didn't think that's who he was or they wouldn't have brought him in. I said when we signed him that they must see something from his time in Atlanta that is fixable. I really don't see any downside to this at all.
  22. Funny, after the last 3 starts, the posters ripping the "old fat guy" in the rotation as stupid and incomprehensible have all but disappeared.
  23. No, not a weird narrative on the board. One poster who doesn't like Dozier.
  24. Well the post I originally responded to said it was based on one bad week.
  25. But I still don't believe they sold ONLY based on that week. If the Twins had gone 30-10 over the 40 games preceding that week, they wouldn't have sold. That week was just the cherry on top.
