  1. Obviously he's unlikely to have a long career in mlb, but you never know. I'm hoping he makes the most of his opportunity, he's a guy in our system that I've always rooted for.
  2. And the Angels were able to get a .900 OPS one for the equivalent of the guy we got for Kintzler. I hope the Tigers said they wouldn't trade him in division, or that was a big whiff.
  3. Well, Trump did refer to him as "lyin' Ted", so I guess even Trump got that one right.
  4. The NT clause is more about having leverage to get more guaranteed money or something else, than it is about choosing the quality of the team you go to, IMO.
  5. Mitch Garver will turn 27 in 4 months. If he needs another year at AAA then he's just not a MLB caliber player, he's milb roster filler. If you think he's that, then that's fair, but if he has any kind of future in mlb then he doesn't need any more AAA seasoning, IMO of course.
  6. I think you misunderstand my point. I wasn't saying a lite hitting SS from nonNY team X couldn't win them. I said that a guy who was average , at best, defensively- as Jeter was, wouldn't have won them if he was hitting .220 in Oakland.
  7. Also, Ted Cruz voted against Hurricane Sandy relief, and I'm sure his base loved it. I wonder how he'll vote when it comes to Harvey relief, and how his base feels now that they are the ones devastated and in need of federal relief?
  8. Fine, but good and reliable shouldn't be GG worthy. I don't think he wins them if he's a good, reliable SS hitting .220 in Oakland.
  9. Look at how many Jeter won. There was a time when it was more or less a popularity contest.
  10. Just because it was a popularity contest in 1999, which I don't think anyone disagrees with, doesn't mean it still is.
  11. Fair, and probably right.
  12. To take it a step further, Houston is now a sanctuary city due to the displacement the floods have caused. Funny how "compassion" was a dirty word when Obama discussed illegal immigrants. Hypocrisy is rampant.
  13. No, that's not a reasonable innings qualification at all. Defensive metrics have zero value at 100 to 200 innings. Moreland doesn't even drop below 2nd place until you get below 290 innings - that's 33 games. He doesn't drop below 5th place until you get below 206 innings - or 23 games. Suggesting Mitch Moreland won a gold glove because of his popularity is totally off base. Can you guess who is 1st this year using your tiny innings standard? Kennys Vargas.
  14. Well he's OPS'ing over 1.000 since the end of June, with no underlying stats screaming lucky. Oh, and he's only 23 years old. I don't see any reason to think he can't put up 1 or 2 1.000 OPS seasons during his peak.
  15. From the article: First and foremost, let’s take a look at what nabbed the award a year ago. Mitch Moreland grabbed a Gold Glove, and despite the sometimes poor decisions for the award (I’m looking at you Eric Hosmer), was a deserving recipient. Moreland posted 7 DRS (2nd), 6.4 UZR (1st), 9.2 UZR/150 (1st), and a 5.0 RngR (1st) a season ago.
  16. Is Mitch Moreland really that popular?
  17. Good for him. Selfishly sucks for me. Best best writer in town by a mile.
  18. I was thinking more Weekend at Bernies than Psycho.
  19. I believe you are thinking of Tim Kirkjian.
  20. Well if the vibe is that selling irked the players and lit a fire under them, then I think those saying the FO blundered need to rethink. Perhaps they just Jedi mind tricked the players into more wins than they ever could have traded for. And got a couple lotto tickets to boot! They are geniuses IMO.
  21. A few things: 1) I agree, Babe Ruth was the greatest hitter baseball has ever seen. But, defense and base running count too. Trout is elite at all three. 2) As someone else pointed out, Ruth only had to face white players. Not his fault, but still, it is what it is. 3)It is hard to compare across generations, if not impossible. So I'll revise my statement to say that barring injury he'll finish top 3 all time with Mays and Ruth. For those including Bonds, i think he'd have been great either way, but he wouldn't have put up the silly video game numbers without the juice. That's my opinion and I'll take it to my grave.
  22. Teams have been wrong on players before.
  23. Yeah, I love Buxton as much or more than anyone. Never doubted he'd be a star on both sides of the ball, not even this April.... or last. But, barring career derailing injuries, Mike Trout will finish as THE best baseball player of all time. Not an apt or fair comparison.
  24. Are you sure it's the same people though? There are a lot of posters here.
  25. I think they declined the max offer because the old agent negotiated it, so legally he'd get the cut. I think they have to tear it up and start over for the new agent to get the cut. Though if its similar, I'd expect the old agent to sue, rightfully.
