  1. I think we shouldn't lose sight of what's important. At least the business is earning a healthy profit for the billionaires 🙏
  2. Well. This team is now 3 games below 500 against teams that aren't the historically awful White Sox.
  3. This team is just not fun to watch these days. I'm watching Attitude Era WWF instead.
  4. Top two in the lineup both with 33+% K rates...ok! Let's try it out I guess!
  5. Wow. You'll grant me that the guy that's been DFAd by three teams this season, including the Twins, might be a DFA candidate on any other team. Thanks. I'll also allow that Henriquez is not a DFA candidate. That was hyperbole to speak to his ability and results, which aren't good. ignoring his contract situation. He's the perfect option RP. Think he's still got options so he can start next season in AAA again and get a call up when stretched thin. But anyone expecting anything more than a 7th or 8th arm from him is asking too much. As for Blewett, he's got 217 innings in AAA with a 1.73 WHIP. He's not good. All the best of luck to him, but he's simply not good. It's not the fact that any one of them is on the team that's bad. Every team has DFA candidates in their bullpen at any given time. It's that all 3 of them are on the team in the most important stretch of games that speaks so poorly of our front office.
  6. Blewett Henriquez and Tonkin are all DFA candidates on any team at any given time. The fact we have 3 of those types right now, when our bullpen should be shaping up, is frankly pathetic.
  7. Yeah, I recognize there's a unique aspect to it but he's not a visiting player. The right field overhang is just a lame excuse for bad defense. He's not the worst outfielder in the league, and I'm happy to have him stay out there but he's never going to be a good outfielder. I just get so annoyed by fan boys making excuses for him. And then they always mention his arm as if that makes up for having no baseball instinct.
  8. Zero Homeruns...as a fly ball pitcher no less. He's still pretty good, but this is this just the other side of the coin.
  9. Matt Wallner has played over 350 games in RF in his professional career. Is that experience? Or does it not count if it's not specifically in Target Field?
  10. He was largely a mirage. His xFIP in the first half was 4.79. He's fine, he's not great.
  11. What does it mean to "trust" a reliever? No one in the bullpen should be trusted. They're all failed starters with good stuff but differing levels of propensity to get in trouble in shorter appearances. That's why bullpen are so deep. I'd actually not realized just how bad the Twins bullpen has been this second half. There's a decent chance a man cut by 3 teams this season makes our playoff roster. They rank 25th in WPA, just not giving the offense a chance late in games. The only reason the Twins are still in the 3rd playoff spot is because the Red Sox bullpen has been somehow significantly worse.
  12. Saves, to a lesser extent than Ws and Ls, are a dumb stat. I don't ever look at them. I will always look at a closer's WPA or Shutdowns/Meltdowns over Saves/Blown Saves. Clase - 40 / 4 Jax - 37 / 9 Duran - 31 / 10 Clay - 27 / 12 Edwin Diaz - 22 / 9 Some other notables: Mason Miller - 25 / 4 Kirby Yates - 36 / 5 Jorge Alcala - 21 / 8 Okert - 8 / 10 Thielbar - 10 / 8
  13. I've made my feelings on Matt Wallner known before. Happy to see him succeed, but I do think the Twins need to have a 4th OF that is able to hit lefties decent enough in the event that Wallner's inability to hit LHP persists. I do think a likely situation is the 4th OF having to share duties with Wallner in RF next season. This is a bit of a concern since our starting CF is also someone we know has to have a competent backup since he can't be expected to play 75 games in the field. Both of these players needing a planned competent backup is a huge burden on the front office in terms of roster construction. Castro can fill in, but an actual 4th OF is needed. Because much like this season, I'd expect them to get as many, if not more, starts as the starting 3. Case in point, useless 4th OF Margot is tied for the lead in OF appearances the next time he comes in. How pathetic is that?
  14. He's pitched in 53 games and 10 times the team has been significantly worse off, largely because of him. This isn't bad, per se. But it's not great. The much, and rightfully, maligned Clay Holmes has been in 60 games with 12 hurting his team.
  15. He's been a big disappointment. But that's due to expectations. I thought he was Clase. Turns out he's just a very good reliever instead of a shutdown stalwart.
  16. At the same time, he is tied for the team lead in meltdowns, an occurrence of the team's chances of winning being significantly less when he leaves a game than when he enters. His Win Percentage Added on the season sits below Randy Dobnak and ahead of Trevor Richards: -0.11 WPA
  17. Ew. Why would anyone want to associate with that POS? That'd be a good way to make sure I drop the Twins for good.
  18. They didn't sign him. He was part of a salary reduction trade.
  19. A lot of fans are rightfully mocking of the thought that the Twins are exhausted late in the season, and I'm right there with them...with the exception of the pitching staff. Pitching is so damn tough on the arm, whether they're in the rotation or the bullpen, throwing consistently for 6 months is really quite a task. I don't hold against Simeon his recent struggles. I still think he's a solid arm, but asking him for anything more this season is hard to do. If only this was entirely foreseeable and the team could have acquired backup at the trade deadline. Oh well!
  20. I apologize, I didn't mean to quote the words, but express criticism of the sentiment we've all heard often and which was conveyed in your post. When Buxton and Correa were healthy, was that indication of good training methods? Frequently injured guys getting hurt again doesn't tell me anything about the medical or training of the organization.
  21. I just hate this "woe is Twins" attitude. No, the Twins haven't been unlucky. The Royals are just incredibly healthy but otherwise every other team has to deal with significant injuries. The Guardians lost their Cy Young candidate in the first week of the season. The Braves lost their MVP. The Mets lost their Cy Young candidate for the near entirety of the season. The Brewers lost an MVP in the midway point. The Yankees lost their Cy Young contender and LF hot shot prospect for half the season, not to mention Stanton. Astros lost a truckload of pitching. The Twins lost high impact players to be sure, but anyone that though Buxton would play 162 is a fool, and Carlos Correa is only on the Twins because two other franchises took a look at his health and decided to cancel their contract agreement. So, can we really even be disappointed that these two players in particular are hurt?
  22. This just isn't a very good team. They're completely fine. If we ignore the White Sox for just a minute, the Twins are a .500 ball club. Which is exactly how they've seemed since we last played the White Sox after the trade deadline. They may or may not make the playoffs and it doesn't matter because they're not the type of team that is going to make a splash if they do limp in. And it does come down to terrible management. There's nothing more emblematic than their trade for Manuel Margot. Apparently their scouting is so bad that a complete liability in the field was an absolute mystery to them. The star CF who never stays healthy was paired with a backup that can't hit or field. And from what I can tell, isn't even much of a clubhouse guy. Not saying he's a cancer, but he seems aloof.
  23. You think Austin Martin is gonna jump from a .100 ISO guy to a .145? There's not a chance in a hell.
  24. Do I have confidence the solidly below replacement player can become a slightly above average replacement player? I guess so. If he can prove competency on defense, he can be a reasonable utility player. But I haven't seen it.
