    I've been a huge critic of the expanded playoffs and the Twins help explain why. Ain't nobody in the league wants to see the Twins limp into the playoffs. No one is intrigued by the race to be the 6th best team in a league. At least in the NL the WC is close top to bottom, you got 4 teams that could conceivably finish with the top wild card spot providing real drama instead of this phony manufactured BS.

    This isn't fair to Simeon. He's not an ace but he's worthy of being a starter. The failure was the team expecting 160 innings from him.

    Wow. You'll grant me that the guy that's been DFAd by three teams this season, including the Twins, might be a DFA candidate on any other team. Thanks. I'll also allow that Henriquez is not a DFA candidate. That was hyperbole to speak to his ability and results, which aren't good. ignoring his contract situation. He's the perfect option RP. Think he's still got options so he can start next season in AAA again and get a call up when stretched thin. But anyone expecting anything more than a 7th or 8th arm from him is asking too much. As for Blewett, he's got 217 innings in AAA with a 1.73 WHIP. He's not good. All the best of luck to him, but he's simply not good. It's not the fact that any one of them is on the team that's bad. Every team has DFA candidates in their bullpen at any given time. It's that all 3 of them are on the team in the most important stretch of games that speaks so poorly of our front office.

    Blewett Henriquez and Tonkin are all DFA candidates on any team at any given time. The fact we have 3 of those types right now, when our bullpen should be shaping up, is frankly pathetic.

    Yeah, I recognize there's a unique aspect to it but he's not a visiting player. The right field overhang is just a lame excuse for bad defense. He's not the worst outfielder in the league, and I'm happy to have him stay out there but he's never going to be a good outfielder. I just get so annoyed by fan boys making excuses for him. And then they always mention his arm as if that makes up for having no baseball instinct.

    Zero Homeruns...as a fly ball pitcher no less. He's still pretty good, but this is this just the other side of the coin.

    Matt Wallner has played over 350 games in RF in his professional career. Is that experience? Or does it not count if it's not specifically in Target Field?

    He was largely a mirage. His xFIP in the first half was 4.79. He's fine, he's not great.

    What does it mean to "trust" a reliever? No one in the bullpen should be trusted. They're all failed starters with good stuff but differing levels of propensity to get in trouble in shorter appearances. That's why bullpen are so deep. I'd actually not realized just how bad the Twins bullpen has been this second half. There's a decent chance a man cut by 3 teams this season makes our playoff roster. They rank 25th in WPA, just not giving the offense a chance late in games. The only reason the Twins are still in the 3rd playoff spot is because the Red Sox bullpen has been somehow significantly worse.

    Saves, to a lesser extent than Ws and Ls, are a dumb stat. I don't ever look at them. I will always look at a closer's WPA or Shutdowns/Meltdowns over Saves/Blown Saves. Clase - 40 / 4 Jax - 37 / 9 Duran - 31 / 10 Clay - 27 / 12 Edwin Diaz - 22 / 9 Some other notables: Mason Miller - 25 / 4 Kirby Yates - 36 / 5 Jorge Alcala - 21 / 8 Okert - 8 / 10 Thielbar - 10 / 8

    I've made my feelings on Matt Wallner known before. Happy to see him succeed, but I do think the Twins need to have a 4th OF that is able to hit lefties decent enough in the event that Wallner's inability to hit LHP persists. I do think a likely situation is the 4th OF having to share duties with Wallner in RF next season. This is a bit of a concern since our starting CF is also someone we know has to have a competent backup since he can't be expected to play 75 games in the field. Both of these players needing a planned competent backup is a huge burden on the front office in terms of roster construction. Castro can fill in, but an actual 4th OF is needed. Because much like this season, I'd expect them to get as many, if not more, starts as the starting 3. Case in point, useless 4th OF Margot is tied for the lead in OF appearances the next time he comes in. How pathetic is that?
