  1. Well, it's good they've got the hot hand up. Opponents only hitting 1.000 ops against him in his last 5 starts.
  2. I don't know if that's even possible. They would need to trade Pablo or Correa. Trading Correa seems pretty difficult, so...that would require trading away Pablo Lopez.
  3. I think it's more looking to next season. Next year, all three of those are likely on the opening day roster. Which...isn't good. And if a college bat is going to be an impact player, they're likely going to advance quickly. Case in point, Brooks Lee was in AA by the end of the season he was drafted. Which isn't rare or unexpected. Another example, Paul Skenes might win ROY the season after he was drafted. He's obviously exceptional, but college players, if impactful, should be ready for high level minors basically instantly.
  4. I'm gonna a curmudgeon old timer and say that pitchers are too soft these days, and every third time out they should expect to need to pitch more than 1 inning.
  5. This is why the Mets have the best broadcast booth in the league. Plenty of appreciation of the past from the old guard from Keith and Ron, but no sense of smugness about the old way being better. Able to criticize the team in any capacity when they deserve it. And able to call the game fairly without any sense of insulting homerism, as if the employer are the Good Guys and the opponent is in the wrong.
  6. Well, they won't WANT to, but the fans didn't support them enough so they'll have no choice...
  7. C: Vazquez and Jeffers - $15 Million 1B: Julien - $800K 2B: Lewis - $3 Million 3B: Lee - $800K SS: Correa - $37 Million LF: Larnach - $2 Million CF: Buxton - $15 Million RF: Wallner - $800K DH: Miranda - $800K 4OF: Keirsey - $800K MIF: Castro - $5 Million Util: Martin - $800K This right here is a roster with no depth and worthy of about 74 Wins. Eventually, they'll depend on Rodriguez to come up and perform well, and he falters because he's a rookie expected to perform well.
  8. Front office says they can't afford it... But seriously, I don't know what this team is going to do. Not only is Pablo due a big raise, with him, Paddack, Ryan, Ober, Duran, Jax, Stewart, Alcala, Jeffers, Lewis, Larnach, and Castro all due significant raises, that's about $40 Million additional dollars tied up. $40 Million extra just to retain the current, struggling roster.
  9. I don't even see him getting that much. But even if it's a half million over league minimum, when you're the Twins, every half million matters. As pathetic as that is. I think it'd be pretty foolish to non-tender him, but we'll see what the Twins do.
  10. Topa COULD be nontendered. But let's say he's due 1.2 million and his health looks OK in the winter...is it really wise to? But Paddack...man, idk. This roster is just such a poorly constructed mess at this point with the self inflicted restrictions.
  11. Jarren Duran is the exception to that rule this season, became a starter last year at 26 before he got hurt. This, his age 27 season being his first full season in the majors.
  12. Mostly, yes. If a player comes out of college and has struggled to become a full time player within 4 seasons then the odds of that still happening is greatly decreased. The odds they become a difference maker is small. They can more likely become a regular, stop gap type player for 3 seasons.
  13. With the self inflicted financial limitations of this team, the Carlos Correa contract is just such a big mistake. It's not a terrible contract in a vacuum but it is when that represents 30% of the budget. After him and Pablo, the Twins only have like 70 Million to play with. Just terrible, terrible roster construction. I, frankly, don't see how the Twins can compete next season. Especially with all the other ALC teams (with obvious exception) developing talent this season so much better.
  14. This is kind of ridiculous to be hoping on these players TBH. The real question in my mind is if we keep them around next year. Paddack is due 7.5 Million and Topa will get a decent raise in arbitration.
  15. Yeah, this denigration isn't fair to him or the Guardians at all. He's a better hitter than Wallner and 3 years his junior. Both are defensive liabilities, so I'd wager there isn't a team in all of baseball (outside his hometown Twins) that would prefer to roster Wallner. Wallner AAA - 29% K 13% BB 4.3% HR Manzardo AAA - 19% K 15% BB 4.8% HR
  16. Wallner is the type of player that will NEVER be able to consistently provide value. That's the tradeoff you get with a 33% K rate and poor defense. He can go on absolute tears and single handedly win games...then hit .120 over the next 100 PAs while hurting you in the field. I really do like him, but yeah. The fact he's got the most PAs on the team isn't really an indictment cause his flexibility should allow that to happen, but people here were talking about a big contract extension around the ASB and that talk looks ridiculous now.
  17. The Twins organization loser mentality has really permeated the fanbase. Jorge isn't some 22 year old that's just learning how to be a professional athlete. He's 29!
  18. Idk man, maybe the inability to replace a SP that has an 8 ERA and a 1.000 OPS over 5 starts is bad, and he should in fact be moved.
  19. Thank GOD we kept Tonkin. What would we do if we DFAd him and someone else picked him up...again.
  20. Just another indicator of how poorly run the Twins organization is operated, top to bottom. The failures on the field are easy to point to, but the simple inability to get the games in homes is such an indictment on the Business Operations side of the organization. Sell the team. Fire everyone. Hollow out Target Field and start from scratch.
  21. To beat up on him, I was really concerned when he was talking about how afraid he was to play 2B in September. That is not the mentality of a true leader. But, to be fair to him, it sounded like he's more than willing to make that transition in the offseason. So I do think he should be expected to move there or LF. Or at least, learn them and get some level of comfort.
