  1. Mostly, yes. If a player comes out of college and has struggled to become a full time player within 4 seasons then the odds of that still happening is greatly decreased. The odds they become a difference maker is small. They can more likely become a regular, stop gap type player for 3 seasons.
  2. With the self inflicted financial limitations of this team, the Carlos Correa contract is just such a big mistake. It's not a terrible contract in a vacuum but it is when that represents 30% of the budget. After him and Pablo, the Twins only have like 70 Million to play with. Just terrible, terrible roster construction. I, frankly, don't see how the Twins can compete next season. Especially with all the other ALC teams (with obvious exception) developing talent this season so much better.
  3. This is kind of ridiculous to be hoping on these players TBH. The real question in my mind is if we keep them around next year. Paddack is due 7.5 Million and Topa will get a decent raise in arbitration.
  4. Yeah, this denigration isn't fair to him or the Guardians at all. He's a better hitter than Wallner and 3 years his junior. Both are defensive liabilities, so I'd wager there isn't a team in all of baseball (outside his hometown Twins) that would prefer to roster Wallner. Wallner AAA - 29% K 13% BB 4.3% HR Manzardo AAA - 19% K 15% BB 4.8% HR
  5. Wallner is the type of player that will NEVER be able to consistently provide value. That's the tradeoff you get with a 33% K rate and poor defense. He can go on absolute tears and single handedly win games...then hit .120 over the next 100 PAs while hurting you in the field. I really do like him, but yeah. The fact he's got the most PAs on the team isn't really an indictment cause his flexibility should allow that to happen, but people here were talking about a big contract extension around the ASB and that talk looks ridiculous now.
  6. The Twins organization loser mentality has really permeated the fanbase. Jorge isn't some 22 year old that's just learning how to be a professional athlete. He's 29!
  7. Idk man, maybe the inability to replace a SP that has an 8 ERA and a 1.000 OPS over 5 starts is bad, and he should in fact be moved.
  8. Thank GOD we kept Tonkin. What would we do if we DFAd him and someone else picked him up...again.
  9. Just another indicator of how poorly run the Twins organization is operated, top to bottom. The failures on the field are easy to point to, but the simple inability to get the games in homes is such an indictment on the Business Operations side of the organization. Sell the team. Fire everyone. Hollow out Target Field and start from scratch.
  10. To beat up on him, I was really concerned when he was talking about how afraid he was to play 2B in September. That is not the mentality of a true leader. But, to be fair to him, it sounded like he's more than willing to make that transition in the offseason. So I do think he should be expected to move there or LF. Or at least, learn them and get some level of comfort.
  11. In hindsight, signing a SS immediately after he'd had two contracts ripped up due to failed physicals might not have been a wise decision!
  12. A Napoleon complex of some fans is not a great reason for the Twins to have to make the playoffs. I can assure you, no one in New York will care if the Twins get in or miss out. Seeing as we all know there's essentially no chance they'd get past the ALDS.
  13. I want to watch the Twins aspire to be in the playoffs. Not just be good enough to be the 6th best team in a 15 team league which is all they tried to do this season.
  14. I think bullpens are less of a financial investment as they are a scouting and development issue. We brought in some budget arms and they all failed to even meet lowered expectations. Gonna be interesting to see what they cheap twins do with all of Brock Jax and Duran due for arbitration raises. Wouldn't be surprised to see Duran shopped.
  15. It is, but they were never as good as a +17 win team. The White Sox compete failure of a season and the Twins 12-1 record against them vastly inflated the Twins record. Even the 12 game win streak was a mirage, with half of those wins being against those lowly Sox.
  16. I'm a baseball fan first. Yesterday someone here said Elly De La Cruz wasn't very good defensively nor with the stick. That just level of ridiculous fandom is detrimental to the sport. The Guardians are a better team. And our 2-7 record and 7 game defecit show that. Complaining about injuries which frankly haven't been that bad, is just loser mentality, seeing as how Shane Bieber missed nearly the entirety of their season. In comparison, complaining that players that are consistently hurt got hurt again is just so lame.
  17. Thems the breaks as a professional athlete. He's got by far the worst WPA on the day so unfortunately he's the one that's gonna get the negative attention.
  18. Y'all are being such irrational homers. The Guardians have been by far the superior team this year and they did it without their second best player for all but one game.
  19. Keeping him in the game was 100% the correct move. Jax threw 4 pitches in the first 2/3 and the Twins went down 1-2-3 on 9 pitches.
  20. This playoff "chase" is just a reminder that mlb screwed up by expanding the playoffs. No one wants to watch the Twins or Tigers in the playoffs. We are a team that should be 5 games back, not 2 games back.
  21. To put that another way, a team that was 8 games below .500 three quarters through the season, and still 4 games below .500 against teams that aren't historically awful, is in playoff contention.
  22. But what if they played 4 innings the previous game?
  23. This level of homerism prevents you from appreciating great players when they're on a different team. There's not a single player in the entire Twins organization I wouldn't trade for De La Cruz, ignoring the ****** contract we're paying the cripple currently at SS.
