  1. His bat is truly elite. To the point I could see him being like Nelson Cruz or Thome and just being a full time DH at 35 until their bat speed finally falls off.
  2. Which I'll say again, if we're seriously talking about moving him to 1B, trade him. Of course, no one serious is actually discussing it so its moot. But if we're talking about an admittedly elite bat that can't stay on the field, and now moving to 1B? Never heard an idea more ridiculous.
  3. If we're already talking about 1B we should honestly trade him.
  4. I mean...that's not even close to close? Which isn't to say I don't like Festa!
  5. Varland had a "good" day today, second and third time through the order batters only had an OPS of 823! But important to note only 2 Ks in 17 PAs. If I'm not mistaken that's a BABIP of 0.154.
  6. Great way to ruin the entire season. At least the Twins would replace the Yankees or Dodgers as every other fanbase's most hated team that way.
  7. They're 7-2 in the last games of homestands, if that means anything to you.
  8. you could have just stopped there
  9. No one's talking about benching potential. We're looking to remove Varland from the rotation because he's simply not a starting pitcher at this point in his career. Maybe he's like Lugo, and after some time in the big leagues he figures out how to face a batter a second time, but he should not be starting on a contender. I repeat again...there's over a quarter of the season remaining!
  10. So you can guarantee no further injury to the rotation? Nice, I'm relieved then.
  11. Honestly, I am very worried about Correa now. It's been over a month and there's no reason to believe he'll be better in another month. I will say though, Rosario might be worse than Castro at SS.
  12. And I don't know that anyone could describe the Twins SP situation as an injury barrage. What we're experiencing right now is typical SP woes. The Twins front office just haven't adequately managed the risk in their roster is what we're seeing.
  13. If you're trying to talk about stretch run depth and have to mention a player that hasn't pitched in a game since early April...yeah, you don't have depth. Our depth is so bad right now our #6 starter should probably never face a batter twice. Second time through the order his opponents bat 301/337/503.
  14. Honestly, he'd be an upgrade on Martin, so I wouldn't have minded it...
  15. Good. Varland can then move to the rotation, and helps it!
  16. I thought about a 6 man, primarily for SWRs sake. But with the lack of deep pitching into the games, I don't think that extra taxing on the Bullpen would really work. It could work for a time or two through the rotation I guess.
  17. We gotta imagine what can be, unburdened by what has been, baby.
  18. This is my thought too. People here are acting like we've already secured a playoff spot and are just in the last couple trips through the rotation, getting our playoff roster set. No, we have over 25% of the season to go!
  19. I would be more likely to agree with you if it wasn't 3 rookies in the rotation. SWR seems like a seasoned veteran at this point and I don't worry about him outside of just fatigue. He's now matched his high in IP from seasons prior with 10 more starts to go. He should be fine, but he could also turn into a pumpkin now that the clock is approaching midnight.
  20. I get what you're putting down, but that's just not even close to true.
  21. I think we're on the same page. He wouldn't just slot into the rotation. He'd have to pitch in the minors for a few starts, and god knows what happens in that time. And if nothing does, well thats why you buy insurance. Plus banking that a rookie that was in A+ in May will be able to continue to perform well after a strong debut isn't really a smart bet. No offense to Zebby, I really like the guy. More than Festa if we're being honest. But one start doesn't show he's ready. He could easily have a 7 ERA over his next three starts.
  22. Depth is important. We have 3 rookies in our rotation right now and our 6 and 7 aren't even AAAA quality.
  23. Is he better than Dobnak? If so, he yes of course. If not, there's no need. But I'm leaning towards yes.
  24. Fair. That was me. I know Pete Alonso got a (record?) 7.5M in Arb1 recently, but he obviously has had way better a career leading into. 4.5 maybe if he's able to remain healthy for the rest of the year. 3 if he kind fades and his rate numbers looks good instead of great. IDK!
  25. The thing is, a long term contract isn't going to really give him an injury discount. He'll want to get paid based on his potential. 6 yrs 100 Million is probably about the right offer, and I don't feel at all comfortable offering that to a player with less than 500 PAs at the age of 25 because he can't stay on the field.
