  1. Good luck signing any of these guys.. twins just don’t have it in them.
  2. Twins drafts have been terrible these last 10 years. They’ve wasted top picks it seems every year. Just like the Vikings, you cannot whiff on first round picks year after year. It just kills your chances for success.
  3. Sorry but buxton has failed as much as anyone. Has he ever been a player we could count on to carry the team? No. That’s not all his fault, but gee whiz hes never been the Puckett or hrbek that’s been there every game. He may be a good guy to his credit, but the on field performance is where it counts the most, and lets us down far too often. Recently bias is prevailing here.
  4. This is all fine, and its good to see such a wonderful output from Buxton. But the Twins drafted him thirteen years ago! I think he was the number 2 pick in the draft. You just can't have such lofty picks take thirteen years to finally come to fruition, which is why the Twins are always struggling to be relavent. This is what we've waited years to see. Sure injuries have been an issue, but my goodness its been a long haul to finally see the results we've wished for. Now there are all those other subsequent Twins high draft picks we continue to wait for...
  5. wow.... right up there witth Blyleven's sweeping cureveball that would just freeze the hitter...
  6. Twins hitters continue to be clueless. What are they teaching them in the minors??? All these high draft picks they "achieved" these last several years are either busts, or poor picks to begin with. Not sure new ownership is the answer here, but right now this franchise is sinking out of sight. And that is sad. As a long time Twins fan, I am finding myself to just not care anyore. Thats alarming.
  7. Jeffers, along with several other Twins everyday players, need to step up this season and display their previous promise. Otherwise its gonna be along year...
  8. So many "What ifs?" with the Twins.... What if Carew hadn't injured his knee? Would he have won a couple more batting titles? What if Kaat hadn't injured his arm in the penultimate game against the Red Sox in 1967? Would they have won the World Series with probably their best team ever? What if Killebrew hadn't pulled his hamstring in the 1971 All-star game? Would he have stuck with the Twins longer with more production? What if Puckett hadn't gotten glaucoma and instead teamed up with Molitor as a potent 1-2 punch? Would the Twins have had a more successful mid-90's run? So many disappointments over the years. The worst for me was 1967, probably the best team the Twins ever had.
  9. Gosh its hard to be a Twins fan these days.... Hot Stove League days used to be fun to speculate on how the team will look in spring training, but now its just Ho hummm. We know it will be a middling season unless current players suddenly play out of their mind. Not likely...
  10. It's mainly a clear lack from ownership in a committment to field a team that at least has a chance to win. No one expects them to compete with the Yankees or the Dodgers in spending, but merely spending a bunch of money hasn't proven to alway work either. The fans notice the emphasis on profit, not winning, so why should they be interested in attending?
  11. Twins will trade Vazquez and then half way into the season Jeffers will break down and the Twins will have nothing at catcher. Then they'll wonder what happened....
  12. As a lefty myself, Kaat was one of my heroes growing up. I was hearbroken when Kaat came out of the game against Boston in 1967. The Twins ended up losing that game and the next to lose the pennant to the Red Sox. The Twins had one of their best teams ever that year and the 13 year old me mourned the entire winter. If you look up Kaats stats for 1967, he won six games.... in September! no wonder his arm blew out at seasons end! Yet he came back and had even more success over the ensuing years. Still one of my heroes today....
  13. In a word... No. He's been a decent outfielder over the years, but way too inconsistant at the plate. COrner outfielders need to have an inmpact at the plate, and other than a few hot stretches, Kepler has been just ordinary...
  14. I remember Sid talking about these "Can;t miss" guys... Especially Bumgarner and Gasser. Untouchable. Won't trade em. Then they just disappeared. Never were an impact with the team at all. Willie Banks was another one. I had numerous Pat Mahomes "Rated Rookie" baseball cards that I thoughtr were going to be valauble. Then he disappeared too. Should have kept those.... because of Junior...
  15. This set is a boring design, and of course few stars. Jim Hughes going 6-0 in April was nuts. Then he crashed to earth…
  16. The ‘67 team should be in the top ten. They had it all. 5 hall of famers, pitching. If the team hadn’t forced Kaat to pitch his arm off in September, he would have won the crucial game in Boston to win the pennant. A heartbreaking end to a stellar season.
  17. Mauer was the new Killebrew. humble, talented, quiet. Lead by example. Why does it seem like every Twins superstar had to endure some devastating injury? (or in Pucketts case, disease). Oh the "what ifs"... If Puckett could have teamed up with Molitor? Oliva's knees stay healthy? Killebrew not injured in the All Star game? Mauer and Morneau not concussed? Lirinano not having arm troubles? Kaat's arm finishing strong in 1967 instead of giving out from total overuse in the September drive? The umpire at Yankees stadium saying "double" not an out. Sheesh! Oh the what ifs...
  18. One of the biggest disappointments in Twins history. They played brilliantly down the stretch and caught the Tigers on the last day of the season. They had all the momentum. Then they absolutely stunk in the playoffs and lost to a very beatable A's team. I put the onus on Gardenhire on the playoff loss. He had the league MVP AND the Cy Young winner and still couldn't get it done. As much as I liked Gardy, this loss was in him...
