  1. It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. -Bart Giamatti
  2. insagt1 I go back to the '61 season as well but it sounds like you may have a few years on me. In all the years I've never seen such a propensity to strike out--and that horrible flailing away at off speed stuff, especially down and away. has been maddening to watch. Still, it was a successful season and we have only about 123 days until it all starts up again.
  3. Hubie, " "Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. O no! it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; ...Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom." W.S.
  4. John, you forgot to mention a visit to the Rocky statue...that's American kitsch at it's finest! Also, those planning to stay in Center City, be aware that ATV and dirt bike demons scream, unmuffled, up and down Broad Street unimpeded until the wee, small hours of the morning. I had no relief from the noise even 22 floors up...I kid you not. Regarding the cheesesteaks: I've never had a bad one, but it's especially fun to hang out at Cheesesteak Corner (9th and Passyunk) and sample the fare at Geno's and Pat's while watching some excellent urban basketball, in season.
