  1. I would add that the biggest hole in the field is at CF. I don't see any evidence to support the idea of bringing back Buxton this season without the ability to play CF. IF he is not healthy enough to do that, he probably shouldn't come back outside of other injuries.
  2. Yeah...it's tough to see a scenario where it would be in the best interest of a team, in a pennant race or playoffs, to call up a player from AAA who has been there for a couple weeks and have him play a position he has never played or only played for a couple weeks. Long term, I would still disagree but it could be worth a conversation.
  3. I agree the situation will sort itself out. Long term success in MLB is hard. Correa, Marten, Julien, Lewis, Polanco, Lee, Buxton, and whomever else all playing so well they deserve an every day spot would be a great problem to have because most of those players are pretty affordable.
  4. If the Twins decide to attempt to cram Lee, Correa, Polanco, Lewis and Julien into a lineup, yes, I think you have to play Buxton at CF. How often will the Twins have that problem based up injury history is the real question. I personally view most professional athletes are depreciating assets for the most part. Because of that, I think the Twins are a bit foolish in limiting Buxton's time in the field using his defensive skills. Those skills are part of what makes him a top player. I don't feel a DH only role is maximizing the use of that 15 mil per year.
  5. I mean, the only teams with a better win % than the Twins, and with a lower payroll (per spotrac) are the Mariners, Brewers, Rays and Orioles. There are 7 teams with a higher payroll and a worse win %. I get wanting to actually compete for a title, I want them to, but I am not Pohlad. I am sure he would take 10 more years of this and be thrilled.
  6. No, but this year they are back in first place. Maybe if they played in a different division the pressure would be different but they don't, and it isn't. The facts are the Twins are in their second most successful stretch over the past 30 years. I don't think that will inspire Pohlad to shake things up too much.
  7. Settle for competing for a playoff spot? Settle for signing a major star? Retaining a talented player? Settle for prioritizing pitching? I am more of a process over result guy so I look at the acquisitions of Correa, Ryan, Gray, and Lopez and am pretty happy. I look at the players we are drafting and would like better results, but young players are a crap shoot. If anything, I think the emphasis for change within Twins organization is how to better transition players from the minors to the majors.
  8. I am pretty sure this would violate the collective bargaining agreement.
  9. I can't tell if this is a joke or not.
  10. I think they are very safe. Whether we like it or not, the Twins are a relevant baseball franchise right now. They are 507/473 since these two arrived, and have finished worse than 2nd in the division only 2 of 8 seasons with three playoff appearances. And before people cite titles as the goal, only three teams from the AL have made the World Series in that timeframe. Houston four times, Tampa, and Boston. Also, remember that the Twins finished no better that 2nd in their division over the preceding 6 seasons, and finished last 4 out of those 6 seasons. Rocco may be moved on from, but I would guess the front office has zero worries about their jobs.
  11. I don't know that there was a big move to make so no issues with the Twins not making one. Agree they should have added some type of bullpen arm, even if it was a buy-low type move on a guy having a down-ish year. I agree with Law that GMs and mostly conservative and make moves not to lose vs making moves to win, Essentially, you get fired for being a bottom level team, spending bog dollars on underperforming FAs, and making trades that look bad after the fact.
  12. I don't understand the criticism of Pablo. He has been reliable, eats innings, and gives the Twins the opportunity to win games. He isn't a problem.
  13. I agree with a lot on here. I think Buxton goes to IL when Polanco gets called up. That solves some problems. While Royce hasn't been reliable from a health standpoint, I don't see the Twins making a move at 3B unless they can for something very cheap. Dumping Gallo seems like a smart move but I don't believe the Twins are an organization who will do that. Kepler isn't the problem but he also isn't really an answer. I think the group/success of Correa, Polanco, Kirilloff, Julien, Lewis/Solano getting consistent work is probably the best road to success for the rest of the year. I don't know how that works with Buxton not being able to play CF. The Buxton decision is baffling to me but I know that has been talked about enough. Ultimately, I would have no problem with the Twins making a move for a good, young player. However, those opportunities are few and far between. Yes, adding a right handed bat, a better 3B, and bullpen help would be nice but it comes down to what you have to give up.
