    They took on Outman (IMO) because they needed another CF in order to be cautious with Buxton's recovery and financially is it almost a wash. Pure speculation but that's how it seems to me.

In 2025, France will earn a base salary of $1,000,000, while carrying a total salary of $1,000,000. France's adjusted salary with the Minnesota Twins is $317,184

    So including Varland, a player they didn't need to trade, in that deal and getting IMO an underwhelming return was coincidence? I guess if you think the Twins traded Varland for equitable value and France brought value back, it makes sense. Just trying to see it from your perspective.

    If that meant the Pohlads had to pay him to not be part of the team, I don't think they viewed that as an option.

    I know some disagree with this, but IMO it is the only reason I can see to trade a player they didn't need to trade while getting an underwhelming return.

    You might be correct but I think it is more likely that owners who are penny pinching were more concerned with saving any money possible than you are. Also my personal speculation is that ownership was not going to pay any player to go away after they had to eat a chunk on the Correa deal.

    I agree that the impending sale of the team has been grossly exaggerated. The Twins went from a mid market to a bottom market team because the owners fell that fewer financial obligations will matter more in the negotiations than attendance and record.

    IMO, Varland was traded because it was the only way they could get rid of France.

    Ok. The Blue Jays took him because he was cheap. The Twins got rid of him because (imo) Falvey was instructed to get rid of all expiring deals. On his own, France had zero value or trade interest. The only way Falvey was able to get rid of France was packaging him with another player that teams did want. Like haggling at the flea market. Will you take $5 less and include this coffee mug.

    It's the ancillary things. Food. Treatment. Goals. Those are the differences. Very similar to why the Vikings always rank so high in player surveys. Guys like it when the owner invests in infrastructure.

    Because apathy has kicked in for him as well. He knows he is a lame duck who will be fired as soon as a new owner buys the team.

    My guess would be that Pohlad would need to sign off on any deal that required the Twins to pay money of an outgoing contract. I think that is the more realistic context along with Falvey getting a directive to get rid of payroll (expiring deals). that would explain packaging France with Varland. Also would explain the disappointing compensation back on some of these deals.

The Astros were basically the only team who wanted him and they overpaid despite having leverage. It's actually amazing the Twins pulled this one off." Paying Correa a bunch of money does have value because he is talented. If the goal was to be relevant in 2027 (as you said), you need to maintain or add to your overall roster talent. Getting rid of Correa, even if he is overpaid, only benefits 2027 if you take those savings and add more collective talent than Correa's individual talent. Maybe you think that will happen, idk, but I think that is a stretch. Saving money only benefits the Pohlads, not the product on the field today or in 2027.

    My guess is the biggest issue with the sale is the debt owed, and this is the Polhads being aggressive trying to fix that. The only thing they are willing to sacrifice is the product on the field.

    I think this is an indicator that Ober might be the only one on the roster to begin next season.

    Again...it makes sense if you are a franchise that only wants to save money and does not care about competing. The Twins lack talent...and trading one of your 5 best players does not give you a better chance to compete in the foreseeable future. They aren't going to sign FAs as talented as Correa. They didn't get back prospects that are going to be better than Correa. They just saved money to put in their own pockets. Ideally, yes, the Twins would take this savings and invest it into a variety of parts that equal more than the collective Correa whole. The problem is that they aren't going to do that.

    Ownership and Falvey, yes. They absolutely both are giving the fans the finger and then will whine when fans give it back to them.

    True, but getting rid of good players rarely makes a team that lacks talent, better. Correa may have been overpaid, but he was still one of the better players on the roster. The only benefit to the Twins and the fans was that hopefully saving ownership money will help them sell the franchise.

    The only thing things getting rid of Correa benefits is Correa and the Twins ability to payoff their debt and make the sale easier. It doesn't make the team better.

    I think it is all going other than Ryan (don't see the return), Correa (they don't want to pay), and Vazquez (if they have to pay). Agree that one of Walner or Larnach is a high possibility.

    Yeah, I said this elsewhere but the sticking point was money not compensation. The Twins want to spend as little as possible, and they aren't going to pay two years of Correa's contract(ish) to get rid of him.

    I think the Twins will get about a ham sandwich for Correa if Houston agrees to pay his salary (which is the only sticking point). Janek is not even in the talks IMO.
