  1. My bet is that Lewis will get first crack at spot starts for injuries... if he does well he will continue to get the ball. If he does not make it happen Festa will be next in line. Fangraphs loves him ... watching tape he has really good stuff but still needs some seasoning and strength.... we shall see!!
  2. So not sure if anyone has discussed and I will likely get crucified by suggesting and know it would be very controversial, but Trevor Bauer has done his suspension and is out there looking for a job. A cheap one-year deal with a team option for year 2 would seem like something to consider. Getting a #1 or #2 at a major discount... Say a two year deal for 10 mil each year.... mind you I feel a bit uneasy just suggesting it but.... baseball wise.. ?
  3. Lee is a 50 grade at speed and if was in many systems would be an "A" prospect at SS.... Not sure where you came up with "a little slow" but don't believe that is accurate. Does he have blazing speed... nope... is he pulling the plow? Absolutely not. I think he would have a shot at being a high end 2B with a shot at future all star games at that position... believe that is where he will be very early next year!
  4. Guess that would depend on the "proven controllable MLB starter" ! If we are talking about a guy that has a chance to be a #1 or #2.... okay... I buy it but a a 3-5 guy for a possible middle of the lineup bat.... um... absolutely not. Look at all the teams that suck... what do they have in common? Either their pitching stinks or their bats stink or.. Both. The Twins pitching is 3 or 4 deep right now and "if" Lee is the real deal with Lewis, Julian, Wallner and Jeffers we would have a core for the foreseeable future that "should" keep us near the top if not at the top of the division. The so called experts that make up the prospect rankings are often wrong... but are often right! I would prefer a studly partner for Lewis and the youngsters than a midland controllable starter.
  5. My pick off the board would be Carlos De La Cruz..... Right handed bat with ability to play all 3 OF spots and 1B ..... Um... that would fit Perfect. Last season he batted .259 with 25 doubles, 24 home runs and 67 RBI with Double-A Reading. The power numbers were the best of his career. # 6 prospect of the Phillies pre MLB. Watched some video... ball jumps off his bat...
  6. ABSOLUTLY NOT!!! Trading high end bats that are controlable ... even though not proven but highly likely he will be VERY good for an arm is a great way to end up in the abyss. Terrible idea and pretty sure the FO knows it. Trading Polanco and getting quality minor leaguers back or an arm would be fine as that is the progression that keeps teams competitive See Tampa Bay.... The recipe is there and we have the ingredients.
  7. The headline "Seatle wants Polanco" suggest that .... Seatle wants Polanco... Probably should have said.. Seatle a good match for a trade .... they clearly have guys we could use!!
  8. The St. Louis Cardinals have made teams interested in adding starting pitching this offseason aware that left-hander Steven Matz is available via trade, according to sources. Would seem to make some sense. Maybe a Matz and Carlson for Polanco and Vazquez? Know they had issues last year with their cat catching... Polanco would also make some sense for them I believe.
  9. Amazingly folks forget how terrible he was over the last few years at the plate. He has always been a plus defender that is not debatable. But his offensive side has been inconsistent at best! He had a very good second half of the season but the first half he was horrible. Understanding that we have options that can be as good or better at a fraction of the cost is really not looking at the big picture. Moving him now is really the "smart" move. Allow Larnach the chance to play everyday and either show he is going to be the guy there or that we are ready for the young guys to get a chance as early as next year. It's time.. finding the right partner is the key.
  10. I would be good with getting both Sandoval and Adel in a Package deal but clearly would be depending on price. I would NOT include Festa or Wallner as both have really high ceilings. If could do with Larnach and some other pitchers in our system .. all good. As stated by some ... not sure what would motivate LAA in trading him as they need pitching ....
  11. I read it twice and saw nothing about them wanting Polanco also. Pretty big reach to make this a headline. Would love for it to be true and somehow get some pitching back.
  12. Hard pass. Arm issues are one thing... shoulder issues seem to be another and too may pitchers don't recover with quality results. Too many other possible options to settle for a worn out lefty with shoulder issues.
  13. Really like the Ideal of Edward Cabrera from Miami. We had a Win/Win last year and hopefully it motivates the teams to try it one more time. Larnach, Winder and a lower level pitcher from our system would seem to make sense for both... I would think.
  14. Manoah and Keller would make the most sense financially with still a pretty big upside. As usual it would all come down to cost. Manoah... Suggested Proposed trade - Manoah for Kepler and David Festa (Trade Value Simulator says: Slight advantage TOR) Would work but think I think they would want more and not sure about giving up Festa as he may have just about as much upside. My trade would be Miranda, Kepler and Winder for Manoah. Trade simulator says that it would be a slight overpay from the Twins side... but I would do... As far as Keller .... Proposed trade - Keller for Matt Wallner and Yasser Mercedes (TCS says: Neutral) I could see that happen. Wallners value is as high as it going to get and we have some guys coming up soon that will pass him... Either would work for me... Burnes and Gilbert are going to be cost prohibitive and Blackburn is waiver wire fodder...
  15. Hmm... Seems That his arm might be worth a flyer. Not sure if his head is on straight but he was FILTHY 2 years ago. Maybe send Miranda and good Minor league pitcher that way? Not sure what they would want but.... Maybe even Polanco as they are thin at 2B right now... Win/Win?
  16. Looking at Seatles depth chart and prospects we seem to match up well. Seems they could use a 2B and a RF. If we could flip Both Polaco and Kepler with may be a Prilepp for Miller or Woo I do it today. Miller is cost effective with good stuff. We have a plethera of OF waiting in line and one of them should be able to fill both spots!
  17. With the financial restraints we are facing ... not happening. Besides that giving up a top end prospect for a 1 year rental at this point seems like a poor choice.
  18. Would like to see him get a shot at the 5th starter spot. Seems like it could be a flyer but why not.
  19. "WS contending team" ? I am the eternal optimist most of the time but we are pretty far from that at this point. Winning one series was a step in the right direction but world series contenders? Not seeing it. Would LOVE to see it ... but we are still a ways off realistically. You may be right and the FO may hold onto one or both... but if they are given a decent deal for either or both expect that we will see a move.. like it or not. Time will tell.
  20. Would LOVE Peralta but the cost may be prohibitive. Not sure what they would want but it would be a ton! More likely we will find a couple rehab pitchers to fit into the 5th spot and continue to grow our minor league starters to fine one. Festa is fairly close... hopefully he hits the weights in the offseason a bit as he needs about 25 lbs...
  21. You probably need to read up a bit on Lee... He is a TOP end prospect that many experts believe he will be a stud.. ala Lewis. He should be ready by next summer. And you are right about Larnach.. his window is closing a bit so getting him the opportunity is VERY important. Clearly you and I (and the front office) have a different view of what "inexpensive" is ... Polanco/Kepler = 20.5 million... Lee(or Julian)/Larnach = 1.4 mil.... Value ... opportunity... actually now is the perfect time to trade them. Like both Polanco and Kep but the smart business decision is fairly clear.
  22. Would be nice but with our budget likely going down... unlikely. Would be WAY more interested in a deal for Carlson to plant in CF. He would be under team control through 26' with arbitration. Those are the type of guys that we will be targeting... Maybe send Kepler and a lower prospect?
  23. Will have to agree to disagree. Having 2 options at 2B including Julien who improved a ton during the year and Lee who has a chance to be an all star at that position are clearly SOMEBODY!! and a good and logical choice. As far as Kepler again Larnach, is the CLEAR choice that we have that we have a ton invested in and will need an opportunity to play. Given the cost cutting we are going to have to do.. you may "want" to stay with status quo but moving forward is a reality Twins fans need to embrace... it is coming... and should be coming.
  24. Because his value is high right now and he has players that can replace him at -- at least 90% of production and 10% of the cost. Same reason we should be moving Max. We have replacement players in the system that need to play and if we can get a pitcher great... if not if we can get quality minor leaguers that can contribute in the future that is also a win. Win/Win/Win... Mind you I like both players but we have to look at the big pitcher.
  25. Having played all three positions in college ball 2B is the "easiest" of the 3 and some so called experts say he has a chance at 3rd. So... Numbers are fine but also understanding he moved up the ladder and played different positions along the way.. tough deal.
