  1. DeSclafani had 8 QS, 8 stinkers and 3 in between starts. If that isn't screaming 5th or spot starter, I don't know what is. One thing with him is, you know after 2 innings whether he is on or not. Def an upgrade from Bundy, Archer, Shoemaker etc. We still could use a #2 or #3 starter so we don't have to rely on Varland or Winder etc.
  2. Maybe we can make a trade and get Ryan Lefebvre back. I thought he was very good and still enjoy listening to him on Royals broadcasts.
  3. Ideally you trade for or sign someone for the top three spots in the rotation so you can use Varland in the bullpen or send him to StPaul for insurance. Varland as your fourth starter does not bode well for this team in 2024. He has not proved he is even major league ready for the long haul. 4.40-1.22 ERA/WHIP and almost 2HR/9 career stats don't scream "save a rotation spot for me". Hopefully we can do better.
  4. If you wouldn't want him on your fantasy baseball team, he isn't worth trading for! 😄
  5. I would rather read this than a serious article about whether someone should go into the hall of fame or not. Hall of Fame voting and induction never did anything for me. Best part is when they blubber while giving their speech. That is if I am bored enough to even watch it.
  6. I agree. He is another all or nothing hitter with a career 30% strike out rate. All the talk about Buxton is getting redundant and frankly over hyped. Very "not clutch". I would sacrifice a "little" defense for more contact and awareness at the plate.
  7. I would like to see an effort on acquiring Lane Thomas. Fits the bill for everything we need. Lead off, speed, power, OF replacement for Taylor. Pitching would obviously be nice too. Miranda and Kirilloff have "nothing" coveted. We would be a much stronger team if neither made the team due to having better replacements, which wouldn't take much upgrade.
  8. No Twins announcer will ever touch Herb Carneal. Not even Gordon. Personally, I was not fond of Gordon and his squeaky voice and "touch 'em all!" Herb was so smooth and didn't have to rely on a cheesy saying. I fell asleep many nights with Herb in my earphones. I would give anything to hear him call a game again. P.S. How did Gladden ever get his gig?
  9. Farmer is a blue collar, hard nosed team guy we need to resign. I would think he would be receptive to a reasonable offer after having one of his best years. Every team needs players like Kyle Farmer. Time to move on from the thought of Miranda and Kiriloff in the long term plans. Package them in a trade deal for pitching or a CF.
  10. Texas and Arizona prove that pitching isn't the number 1 factor in making it to the Series. Of course pitching is important, but the ability to hit in key situations and not constantly leaving runners on base after "another strikeout" is probably more important. Witness the Twins and what was their downfall all year. Arizona and Texas are in the Series due to clutch hitting. Eovaldi gives up 5 and the Rangers still won with clutch hitting. Something the Twins failed at time and time again.
  11. Proof will be in the pudding next year boys. Save Beasts rant for next year. We will see if thumbs down is warranted or not.
  12. Love the honesty and accuracy. Kudos to you for telling it like it is. Your analysis is why many old timers and die hard baseball fans like myself, (62 yrs old) have turned so apathetic towards this organization. Same old same old.
  13. Great series win! Hopefully put the hex to rest. Anybody else completely sick and tired of the missed calls by the home plate umps? My gawd, the umps seem to be getting worse. Check out the home plate umps "scorecard" after doing a game. Just Google home plate ump scorecard. It is unbelievable how MLB can allow these habitual bad umps to continue calling games. 20 or more missed pitches seems to be allowed. Did anyone notice when HP ump Fletcher didn't call strike 3 until Jeffers started to throw the ball around the horn? Then he decided to raise his right hand. Comical!
  14. I agree, as long as they keep a bat out of his hands in a key situation
  15. Exactly! You know that's what would happen. I've played it out 100 times in my mind, that's all I see.
  16. This is beautiful! I couldn't and didn't say it any better.
  17. Doesn't mean anything. Him and thousands of others.
  18. Just because a guy has played major league baseball and wears a major league uniform, that means he knows baseball and the strategy that goes along with it? I am going to say something now, and I don't intend it as a joke. There are thousands of posters on these blogs, and I guarantee you some of them know baseball strategy better than Rocco. I hate it when people say, "well he knows more about baseball than we do". Why does he? Cuz he looks the part? He has proven over the years he doesn't "get it".
  19. To be honest, does it matter? We don't need anything less than 100% healthy for it to matter. We proved we really don't need another .210 hitter with a 30+% K rate. His defense doesn't make up for that.
  20. Both are throw away pitchers. However I remember when Lopez was lights out for Baltimore a couple years ago. Don't know what happened to him.
  21. You are correct, it was Ray Scott. He was also excellent, but I only mentioned Halsey and Herb. Maybe it's nostalgia I long for, but this era and new wave decisions made from technological data drives me crazy. And a manager who has no clue is the nail in the coffin. I hope I can get over this 3 year sickness, cuz baseball is still the greatest game ever! (Coached our Jr. Legion team to the state tournament in Granite Falls this year. Nothing better than amateur baseball.)
  22. To all the baseball doctors out there. What is wrong with me? 62 y/o male. Grew up with Halsey Hall, and of course the best of all time Herb Carneal. I was ecstatic when the Twins won and it took me hours to get over a loss. It was like this up until about 3 years ago. Slowly but surely, I am losing interest and affection for my partner, the Twins. I don't get excited with a win anymore, and don't really care if they lose. Playoffs were the ultimate reward, couldn't get any better than that. We have almost clinched the division by default this year, and I am not even excited about it. Lost today, by typical means, and it doesn't bother me at all. Any other old timers have this disease? Have you gotten treated for it? Is there a cure?
