  1. Then you have just provided 2 more reasons why signing pitchers to long term contracts is an expensive crapshoot. Buying arb years is also a far different risk than a FA
  2. Warts are okay, it is the ticking time bomb contracts that are worrisome. That is what Grinke's contract would be. Sanchez not so much so. Notice how Dempster did not get three years as he wanted. Buehrle got 4 years, not a 6. Do you think age had a little to do with that?
  3. I think I have your question down Meche, Guthrie, and Silva no way even before hindsight would have proved one right would I have signed one to a contract. Lackey was a free agent in 09 but like Santana and Beddard has missed time since 07. That would equate to a 1:4 chance of a deserving pitcher playing all of the way through a long contract You win a lot of money off people who gamble with a 25% chance of winning.
  4. What shortstop was available for the Twins to sign? Drew with his generally poor fielding? Pelfrey pre injury is a far better option than Deduno Devries or Walters. While it may be questionable if he gets back to that level by midseason Better options for pitchers yes. Significantly better no. At the end of the year there will be enough stastics to judge. My guess would be that a lot of these "better " options will still have fip above 4.25. Argueing which mediocre pitcher is better is pointless.
  5. Pelfrey kinda gets ripped here, now does well. Correia gets faint praise and gets bombed. Hmmm. Corelation equalling causation, llet the complainers run amok on TD
  6. Foul ball off the led. Impact fracture to you, nothing on the MRI. Point proved.
  7. If you have had multiple players with stress reactions then you ought to be the expert on prevention.
  8. How do you aggravate a bone density issue by playing on it? If a bone density issue were aggravated it would become a fracture. You do not have a medical degree and you can post opinions, but please don't think it is based on knowledge. AT best it is limited information filtered through someone else. It takes a DEXA scan, not an MRI to detect bone density issues.
  9. In understanding medical diagnosis and treatment it seems to me many on this board accumulated their medical knowledge by watching Star Trek. Just wave the gizmo and get the diagnosis and cure.
  10. If there was a god of radio you would be noon to 3 and expanding the bit.
  11. Themakeup of a team would inlude lower paid 4th and 5th starters, a mop up arm as well as a few other cheap arms. The payroll of a team without a stud pitcher should be well weighted to the hitters side of the ledger.
  12. Sadly you have to put sarcasm in there for people to understand you are dogging the pitching component of the thread. But yet if the comment were truely sarcastic they would have a reason to give you a vacation.
  13. Other than someone signing with the Yankees, what top 10 ranked FA signed less than a three year contract? What is a top ranked FA
  14. Brother you did not provide a link to show your work? Boston is going fine now. Wait a little while and see how well Boston is doing. The best thing that Boston did was hire Farrell who knew their pitchers.
  15. Brother I respectfully disagree with your recollection of your initial post. It might not have been what you intended to say, but it came accross as spend enough money and anyone will come to Minnesota.
  16. Yes, and few of those years some to a lot of the innings were spent toiling in the minors.
  17. He might be the only free agent pitcher off to a hot start.
  18. Lannan to the DL. Of course he wouldn't have been hurt if he was with the Twins.
  19. A better marketing plan to free agents. Derp. My Brother the player agent is smarter than a marketing plan.
  20. Will the baseball plays get so expanaded by then that they will play into January?
  21. From the story RA: We made very competitive offers to a couple pitchers, and maybe even better offers than what players signed for. You get into a situation when you're coming off of two 90-plus loss seasons - some pitchers, and to their credit they are looking to land in a place where they'll get a chance to win, and some teams can just offer that and a player will look at it and believe it moreso than when we say "Hey, we're trying to win, too." And Old Nursie was villified and mocked for even saying that it was a disctinct possibility in the club's problem in signnig free agents.
  22. According to the thread the great hindsight shown by some is that Slowey will be a good pitcher now and Blackburn's contract was unwise. I would imagine that someone thought there was a better chance of Blackburn turning into a Brandon Webb than Slowey of becomeing a Halliday,. Thus Blackburn got rich, Slowey got burned.
  23. If a player can't do what the little ones do in tball then he should not be suprised the manager is angry. If the media tells him the manager is angry and the reason, the player should not be hurt, self esteem destroyed. He should look at the media and same something like "And you expected him to be happy that I (insert goof here)?" The posters on this board have thin skin. Even with military service they cannot admit they are wrong, did something wrong. Why project that on a player?
  24. There is nothing Gardenhire has done this year that is any different than any other year. Nobody has brought anything new forward. Critizing in public. In sports it happens a lot. Writers would have a lot less to write about if it didn't. Writers speculate. They have no more clue than anyone else when they write a collective hotseat article on managers.
