  1. In the 15 year period Mr Brooks cited they developed 5 lower round pitchers into pitchers that pitched at the major league level. I really don't think you would find a statitacilly significant number in the pitchers Oakland developed in the minor leagues than any other club. In terms of Twin's dogma on pitching, is wanting the Twin's pitchers to be aggressive going after the hitters a bad thing? Billy Beane looks for pitchers that command the strike zone.
  2. There is still no statistical analysis that would give you a clearcut edge to Oakland's finding pitchers in the later rounds is statitically significant.
  3. So I go look up Braden on Fangraphs. No 4.5 WAR anywhere for a season. 7.4 total war for a 4 year career puts him as an average, not exceptional
  4. Are you sure you understand the concept of a use injury. How do you know when the UCL starts to deteriorate and have an effect on the pitching? In Wimmers case please tell me how you would know?
  5. Last season with expectations of the pitching staff being high and the end result it should have taught the local fans one thing. You never know what you are going to get out of youor pitcher unless your pitcher's name is like Price, Verlander, Sabathia, Strasburg, Kershaw, or the other extreme Terry Felton.
  6. Take out the games Worley pitched against the Mets and he had the same kind of season he did the year before. That would make him a perfect Twins Ace (can't win against a New York team)
  7. What a concept, pitchers putting on a Twins uniform will regress. Other team's pitchers build on what they did and will get better for this season. A forum for ideas.
  8. Is Blackburn's regression due due a change in mechanics due to pain in the elbow from the chips?
  9. Are you aware that the UCL inury is a use injury and not a trauma injury. As the use injury gets worse , performance can suffer.
  10. If you don't count half a season then Strailey and Griffin are not included in being a great find in the late rounds as they have not even pitched complete season's. If one pays attention there have been many pitchers that have half seasons of great sucess then never to reach more than mediocrity again. So if part seasons don't count the A's have found Cahill and Harden after the first round and The Twins have found Baker and a bunch of medocre pitchers who have spent time in the starting rotation with varing degrees of sucess.
  11. If it is clear that you and Dave are friends then it should be obvious and any reasonable person shouldn't have a problem. But others can't see a friendly jab. Make an issue of it. Not every jab out there is between friends. Think Snepp and Nursie are friends?
  12. Fangraphs has Cahill as a career 8.8 and a better pitcher away from Oakland. Cahills 3 years in Oakland he totaled 5.5, which is less than Blackburn did..
  13. Oh, Swarzak even had a positive WAR a year when he was a starter for half a season
  14. Haren was a second rounder of the St Louis Cardinals. Strailey and Griffin have pitched less than a season each. Slowey was good for a season, Duensing came in and was good for a season as a starter. Cahill had numbers in his first years similar to Blackburn's. Oakland was wiser than the Twins. Dallas Braden injuries costing him. Kyle Gibson without the injury. That leaves Harden and Scott Baker. It is all how you want to twist things.
  15. Outside o f the first round, what pitcher other than Leake and Baily has the Oakland braintrust drafted in the later rounds that panned out. You have to go all of the way back to 1998. Is that the track record you want to emulate? They have been very good at trading for prospects and first round pick ups. Tampa Bay can draft but not pay for players. Their trades have not worked out so well. Every organization does some things well, some not.
  16. It will be interesting to see if those that contribute mostly snark will be around. Hopefully a Fro without the attitude will come back. For the most part he knows a lot more than those he got frustrated with.
  17. Enlighten me. Did the Twins lose someone important from the demotions from the 40 man roster this winter? Was there a decent catcher in Rochester last year?. Was ther somebody who killed the league in hitting that did not make it up? $200000 out of 120 million dollar budget is nothing especially considering the 40 million not yet spent. At least somebody got the exra nickel.
  18. By your reverence for how the Tampa Rays do business then you ought to love Ryan. The team hea crafted from 2001-2006 averaged only one less win per year than the Tampa team has over the last 5.
  19. With a healthy, 100% Harden, Worley and Pelfry ar their WAR best performances, the Twins could contend. Maybe the maker of the game is just trying to get attention. Sort of like predicting DeVries could be an ace (well he could if he threw every pitch perfectly) as was done on some site.
  20. You would not get "criticized" if you worked on your writing before you put it out there. Run it by someone before you publish. Then you do not have to apoligize for putting out ill defined ideas.
  21. If you have to ask you do not understand there are people here that propose all sorts of things.
  22. It is as good as tool as the one Thyrlos designed for starting pitchers.
  23. "Better than Gagne" using war. Accumulaed WAR? average WAR/year? Did better one time than than Gagne ever did? This article makes as little sense as what the guy who used to post on Yahoo wrote.
  24. I hope this is another case where good scouting of talent shows that drafting players to develop that it is more about their skills than the numbers.
