  1. And have been better off with Revere over Bourne.
  2. And perhaps Mauer is not a power guy but a contact guy.
  3. What you are posting in regards to getting ahead of hitters is very elementary on the baseball knowledge side of things. The author though claims the pitch framing is helping at a fantastic rate of called strikes if Willihammer has accurate statistics. In the baseball prospectus article they based their claim on the improvement made by soley on one season of work by Molina in Tampa. Yet after Posada returned for New York and Molina was gone strikeouts went up dramatically in New York. The reply that you gave is really pointless in determining why New York did so much better. They still needed strike one and two, no different than the year before. SAtatistically speaking if they struck out more people after first being behind in the count their total is truely amazing as well as unlikely.
  4. I was hoping that one of the supporters of pitch framing would have answered my question. How many strikeouts does it take to save a run?
  5. Maybe his skills don't translate to mlb level as well as the current group of Twins emergency or unnatural disaster pitchers. See Anthony Slama 2011
  6. Thyrlos posted a couple of mea culpas. That is far better admit of mistakes than 98% of the people here
  7. If the number of stikeouts improved with the catcher then why the increase from 1141 strikeouts in 2008to 1260 in 2009 for the Yanks? Molina caught 50 less games in 2009. I am too lazy to bother figuring out how many strikeouts turns into 50 less runs, but it would take a quite a few. Yet with Posada, a bad framing catcher in a different baseball prospectus article back catching, strikeouts went up. go figure
  8. Take a look at when someone gets their AB in a game. See if Hicks or Benson are going against the front line pitchers. There is a competition on if they are.
  9. As Lombardi, or was it Jery Kramer. said, Winning isn't the only thing but it sure in the hell beats whatever comes in second.
  10. It is hard to say. St Peter will say one thing, Ryan might say something a little different. St Peter says that Ryan has lattirude in signing players, Ryan has said that he has to run contracts past Pohlad. So I would think that if there is any payroll limit that it would come from Pohlad. Perhaps they all have profit sharing.
  11. Maybe somebody is as bad at trading as Bill Smith. Sorry a pitcher throwing in the mid 90's over the middle of the plate traded for a shortstop reference went past you like a Jim Hoey fastball. Did notice the humour here had to be direct and cheap.
  12. From my medical friends nothing alarming is far different than normal. What the patient probably heard was nothing after "we found nothing alarming" No reporter asked him what teams looked at his medical record. If a dozen did, then there would be a reasonable chance that nothing alarming is more. Still doesn't excuse the Twins for not taking a chance.
  13. Well there is that mid 90's fastball. The heatmap shows the problem Anthony Swarzak » PitchFx » HeatMaps » FA | FanGraphs Baseball Can the team package him and Brunett for a shorstop that has fallen out of favor with his manager?
  14. Nice manipulating of stats. Is Hendricks really the 5th starter? You use injury season data on the 2013 starters. Hello, why were they pitching so poorly? They were not healthy. When you look back at the TJ people, even the year before they get injured they perform at a level lower than they did the previous season. We do not know how good or poor of season any of thee guys are going to have. WAR is not a predictive tool. Take a look at Edwin Jackson. His WAR is all over the place. One season does not predict the next.
  15. First off they weren't going to sign anyone other than somebody else's rejected 5/6th starter, or a bullpen guy part time starter looking to be a fulltime starter to get one last paycheck. Pohlad would never aprove the money for a starter that was going to cost them a lot of money. Ryan has said diferent times in interviews that Pohlad has to approve before he can sign a free agent. You might have had optimism if any of those other types of pitchers had been signed. You might have seen an upside in one and was hopeful. This way you can get your mourning over with rather than have all of your hopes crushed on a beautiful May evenng when it becomes appearant why the other pitcher was available.
  16. This from the person who stated they could get Bogaerts from the Red Sox for a Twins veteran and a prospect. Are you really that two faced? Are you any relation to EOR from Winne the Pooh?
  17. Boston signed Drew to a one year deal for a reason, Bogaerts should be ready in 2014. I love how people on this board fantasise about trades that have so little likelyhood of happening. To get a Bogaerts one would have to be giving up a couple top 10 prospects. The belief that any Twins veteran left without a no trade clause or closes games will fetch much this off season is another fantasy. Also like the wish for a player who was in high A ball as a solution for shortstop while complaining of this year's players. The black hole of the Twins will continue.
  18. Glass 3/4 full of Koolaid kind of guy Ploufe stays healthy and streaky Dozier plays like he did in 2011 with the Rock Cats Paramalee hits for a .750 OPS Spilled the 1/4 of a glass on whater position Dozier doesn't play. I did not even have to count on Hicks or Benson for 3 upgrades from last year No Koolaid Last June was a fluke Last year wasn't a fluke Parmalee is a AAAA guy Benson and Hicks are busts
  19. Great idea. One small difference of opinion. xPE. manipulating by a constant does nothing for the number for the reliabilty of the number. The luck factor over a season for all pitchers should be the same for all pitchers and thus should not be a factor to control for. Using babip at least factors for that pitcher what happens when they threw it. In determinging "Ace" status a factor that should be considered is the ability to get through the sixth. That is Cole Devries limiting factor as only 7 starts made it through 6 and only one through 7.
  20. Definitions on Twins Daily "What I said is snarky" meaning: Excuse to be rude "Troll" Why do you post what I disagree with "Thin skinned" How dare you call me on my bad behavior.
  21. A 1989 K car with 200000 miles on it would be an upgrade over 1 1981 K car with 240000 miles on it. Incremental improvement and you are still left with a piece of junk. Flipable assests. You are going to trade starting with a a bobby pin. 400 trades later get a Porche? You watch too much TV Good night. I am done with this topic. Go post the last word as you always apeear to do.
  22. Baltimore Orioles bullpen for example had a WAR somewher around 6. Are you really thinking in terms of WAR that 3.5 games is going to make a turnaround in a team? Some of the starters you mentioned did not even start last year for their teams. Do you really think that a Lannanor a Francis is going to make a differenceon the Twins? More # 5 starters? Do you even know what the teams need if that is what you want. There are plenty on this board who think that Jackson, Marcum and McCarthy are all in the very good catefory. Very good doesn't necessarily want to pitch in a losing environment. Doublecheck your trade ideas on flippable assests. What do you get in trade for your 1 WAR players.
  23. While it is indeed unlikely that all free agents don't want to sign here it is reasonable to think that the high end free agents wouldn't want to play here. Why would you want to go to a losing team if given a choice. If they are any good as a player they have already earned a ton of money. Unless they have the spending habits of Bryant McKinney they don't have to sign for the most money. The marginal talent available to sign leads me to think who cares? They could sign a dozen players the caliber of a Padilla.
  24. So how many years in a row did the payroll go up? 1999it was 16.4 million, had a dip after Hunter and Santana were gone, and proceded to go up until the 2011 season. So thus the team has not always cut payroll. So using your line that if a team has acted in a certain way, you would expect them to act the same way. After 2008, they attempted to add talent in Joe Crede, Orlando Cabrerra. Payroll went up. Next year they resigned Pavano
