  1. The young pitchers in the Cardinal's roster all pitched at least 12 games, usually 15-20 in AAA before being called up. They usually started in the bullpen once in the majors. Meyer's just pitched his 15th game for AAA, about the norm for the Cardinals.
  2. In regards to the Oakland team. How many World Series teams has Beane put together? Answer as many as Ryan has. I really don't think their pitching will carry them through the playoffs . The pitching devils have already claimed enough of their pitchers this year. When the playoffs starts their starters will be near that 200 inning mark. Only Kazmir has pitched that much in a season. If they can do as Moses Malone said (fo, fo and fo sure), that may keep them from being dead armed.
  3. When so many of the relievers have performed less than league average in the bullpen, the question becomes which player should go first. K/9 as a definitive stat? His is still one of the better ones for a Twins reliever. No blown saves, only 2 losses. What do the AAA pitchers throw that looks like it will work in the big leagues? Are their pitching performances as consistent as Burtons? That is are they good 2 games and bad one. You can argue on emotion as a fan, but it is hollow. It might be prefered to stretching truth for some axe to grind. It does makes one what the other motive for ragging on some one is .
  4. The curve averages runs for all players and all catchers. So you can say on average X happens. The range of any age group's rise or drop in runs can be significant . For a particular player it may rise For example someone like Carlos Beltran in 2011 over 2010, .2009 was better than 2008 or 2007. So on average yes your player will decline as they get older. By how much remains to be seen. A general aging curve really tells you very little about how your player will perform. The study stated that they adjusted for injury. How? Look at Willingham wRC+ for 2012, 2013 and 2014. Obviously the knee injury was important. By an aging curve the Twins should have stayed far away from Willinham. Yet at age 33 and so far at age 35 he is having offensive career years. Aging curve be damned. Since the study only looked at runs, imagine what leaving a hitter friendly park does to your aging numbers. A couple batters might have aged 10 years moving to TF from the dome.
  5. So many pieces in the bullpen to choose from this seasonBurton, Guerrier, Swarzak, Tonkin when he was up. A case could be made for moving on from any of these pitchers from the bullpen. Long term, the rest of the bullpen does't exactly strike fear in anyone either. That is the real problem here. Achter, Ibarra, Oliveros may be upgrades. Wouldn't hurt to have a look at them now rather than September. So many different players to complain about, so many to meet the same fate.
  6. The subject of the thread was Hicks hitting left handed, therefore I limited my post to hitting. Imagine that, someone trying to keep to topic and remembering the topic within the first page of a thread.
  7. The New Britain Herald doesn't care, either. I do not know if they have a version of S.D. Buhr. This site does well with information regarding prospects thanks to his work.
  8. In this day and age of technology there does not appear to be an astute human being trying to scratch out a living covering the Rock Cats. That leaves speculation and less to fill the pages of TD. 1. Twins management said to keep hitting left handed 2. Hick's dad told him to keep batting left handed 3. Hicks had a change of heart. He did well in AA as a LHB. Start over and build on it 4. Chad Allen having nothing to lose, convinced Hicks to stay batting left handed. He thinking if he could make Hicks a better hitter left handed in 2 weeks, Mr Allen would have a shot at the bigs. It would be much simpler if there was someone within the media to as him questions. With the injury perhaps it gave him time to think. Found this old quote My dad, he didn’t want me to play baseball,” said Hicks. “So he made me hit left-handed, and I’d never hit left-handed before. And I was struggling a lot. He was thinking probably a couple seasons and I’d be done with baseball, but he didn’t know that I’m not gonna stop. I’m not gonna stop until I get it right. And that’s how I ended up becoming a switch-hitter.” "I am not going to stop until I get it right." Hopefully he found the youthful resolve as well as confidence.
  9. How many posts were there saying Hicks should be in the minors and not the majors? You stick with a player you think has upside. That is why they stuck with the previously mentioned players
  10. Which team does not go through a stretch were there is not hitting or a strech where the pitching sucks? The OP talked about streches of bad months, not years.
  11. I do not know when the last time the Twins pulled off a double steal but the Escobar/Fuld situation above was not nor should be the time for a double steal.
  12. I would still like to know what information you have that there were any offers out there in 2012 for Willingham. I could speculate and claim there are teams interested in a player. If it were a plausable senario, people would not question it. You repeatedly through out that there should have been a trade when Willingham's value was high in 2012. Yet the only evidence you have provided was an article stating the Cleveland team offered him a 2 year contract when he was a free agent. Many others have laid out why there would not have been offers. They sound far more reasonable than repeating sell high.
  13. Did they have better pitch framing catchers before coming to the Twins? IIRC Worley's walk rate went way down with the Twins as did his K rate. I don't think there is a problem with pitch framing when the ball does not get to the catcher. Velocity wasn't the issue as that was unchanges, Pitch type was unchanged. That only leaves location and sequencing of the pitches. Can't find that.
  14. Baseball and the rest of the unionized world are two different things. Name me one similar situation in baseball where the union rep said the guy should not have been demoted? Quibling on age now on what is young and what is not? Pinto's rise from being promoted AA to the majors took less than 2 years. I guess in your idea that is not fast. More axe grinding on Perkins?
  15. Perkins undoubted told Pinto several times when Perkins lost strikes what Pinto has to do better. Pinto would have known what he needs to do long before Perkins was on the air. What is the harm in truth? Can you find any data that would say that pitch framing occurs regardless of what the game situation is?
  16. Should have made it clearer that there was no print version available.
  17. On the radio show wasn't the conversation about Pinto. Did anybody ask Perkins what he thought of Suzuki. Can't find it anywhere. By the numbers Pinto needs to work on his pitch framing. Perkins is not wrong about that. That Pinto is less bad than Suzuki wasn't part of any question. So what is Perkins spewing about that was factually incorrect about Pinto? Nothing. Now if your complaint was that he didn't throw Suzuki under the bus, too I could understand. But your a/b analysis looks real bad, like you have yet another axe to grind about somebody.
  18. The next couple weeks ought to show if Santana is really that talented or scouting will catch up. Several players had a hot start and are no longer on the team. Santana could be one, or he could be legit.
  19. Revere, Benson and Parmemlee were all September call ups from AA when the rosters could expand. They were called up as reward for good seasons, not to take the place of someone. Benson and Revere started the following season after their September call up in AAA. Your point of being in AA as a bad sign is horse hockey.
  20. That is not evidence of a Willingham trade. It might be considered evidence of why teams were unwilling to give up much for Willingham as they cited his injury history.
  21. Thyrlos will cherry pick his stats like anyone else here does to provide support for his position. The math that Thyrlos cites come from the sample size you just called small. What does that make the math then but inaccurate?
  22. There have been players to hit better in the majors than they did the minors. They were some of the better players to ever play the game. There is nothing that says Santana can't be one. If he can stay playing at a high level because that is what he is capable of, then anything is possible.
  23. The only pitcher on your list that did not have a very good to great regular season was Lewis.
  24. When you look at Levi's list of top performing pitchers in a World Series on another thread, of the 10 pitchers listed only 2 were high priced free agents . It provides an argument that the free agent might not put you over the top and the need for several high quality starters.
