  1. I would think that any prospect below AA you see some purpose for other than organizational guy. There has to be some ceiling higher than A+ ball for a touted minor league system. Between international signings and the draf if you are not picking 30 players that can be in A+ ball you might want to rethink scouting or development. Every level of the minor leagues it is still about winning for the local fans. The organization should be able to bring through prospects well enough at the lower levels to produce a quality team.
  2. i guess the season must really be going poorly all around if 15-20 AB would make a difference in a player's development. I am not sure at what point a player becomes filler rather than potential. I would supose it would be individual difference. If a Pineda is filler than explain criteria
  3. Don't you think they will have a better shot with Gibson, Hughes, and some of the call ups thane 2011 with Slowey, Hendriks and Diamond all pitching with ERAs over 5 and Swarzaks almost 5. How about 2012 withVasquez, Deduno, and Walters with ERAs over 5.5 and Diamond and Hendriks approaching 5. Last year they were starting Hendriks, Hernandez and Devries with ERAs over 9, Diamond, Pelfrey and Albers with ERAs over 5. Yes those teams faded as the arms were tired, broken, or easily hittable pitchers. The staff ERAs were all higher in September and October than the rest of the year. Gene Mauch could get the team to play late in the year for those that have long memories
  4. Extra credit if you can figure out where I pulled the names from.
  5. I do not know if any of these guys have jobs in mlb now Tony Pena Bill Castro Joselito Cano Denny Gonzalez Alfredo Griffin Juan Samuel Junior Noboa Luis Sojo Wilson Alvarez Marco Davalillo, Sr. Luis Dorante Andres Galarraga Carlos Garcia Omar Malave overall, one of these guys on the payroll would be a good thing, definately in helping out the scouts Victor Mesa Angel Castillo Juan de Dios Pena Primitivo Diaz Victor Figueroa Jorge Riscart Pedro Rodriguez This might be another good guy to have to attract players Koji Yamamoto
  6. Still with the stretch of higer SO his BABIP is remaing high. Either he will have to work on being able to hit the pitches he is missing on, or he will becme a .250 hitter. With all the tracking devices I am sure that they can figure out what he misses on regularl. If there is not a pattern of what pitches he misses on it becoes a guessing problem. That could also be fixable.
  7. In the case of Keutchel and McHugh, are they having breakout years or career years? Plouffe or Pinto for one of them. Probably all three for Sano
  8. Oscar Tavares wished what you said was so. Arb clock may be a problem if you are young enough
  9. Jeez Levi. I wasn't posting about if shifts work.Or Molitor is an evil creature. Well, shifts can until the hitters adjust to hitting the ball the other way. Matt Carpenter was hitting better against the shift than he was a straight up defense. He can hit the ball the other way. The questions I asked was how were the Twins doing. was because if you shift I would think that the pitcher would have to throw more pitches that the hitter would have to try to pull versus slap the other way. Just like P2C is a bad idea with poor pitchers, I would wonder what the net effect would be for poorer pitchers.
  10. There is an ever so slight difference a David Price makes on your roster would make than say Correa (like 10-15 wins) so what you can do is very different. If a team has a major piece to sell, they can market it. If you need something to round out your last bullpen slot, last guy on your bench, you might call the Twins.
  11. A great white hope for the baseball diamond.
  12. No statistics for the Twins. Is there a trend figuring out how to beat the shift. Are batters learning their tendancies and learning to adjust. Baseball is a game of adjustments. Your article did not adress that very well for the Twins as a team
  13. Maybe the could see if Rod Carew has anything left. Maybe since he has had a few years rest, Mudcat Grant could stage a comeback
  14. There is probably a statistic for balls to the walls. To determine if the shifts work in general you would look atBABIP with a shift on vs babip when they do not shift. It might even be a large enough sample by the end of the season to be valid. Undue skepticism? Is it wrong for people to wonder how well it works? Numbers may actually undo skepticism
  15. Eat salary. Might be tasty with some fava beans.
  16. They will need to find a righty for out of the pen. Let the pitchers down on the rarm fill the other roles, but a team usually needs two solid righties for 7/8 duties if the team is actually ahead. Offer Scherzer enough money to make it hurt for Detroit to sign him. He won't sign here but it could hamper Detroit into weakening somewhere else. If he signs here, great. Remeber that the Twins have been helpful to Boras with Pelfrey and Morales. Steering a little quality this way could be a nice payback. There is still a lot of time to figure out if Arcia, Hicks, Parmelee, and Santana are major league capable. Escobar may have proved himself major league ready. I wouldn't worry about MI or OF yet. Resign Fuld for a back up. It is not great, but he is having a career year. Catcher. Pitch framing has a very low correlation to runs scored. However, it wouldn't hurt to give Martin a 2 year offer There is not a 3B better than Plouffe as a free agent. There wasn't much there. Headley for a one year contract to rebuild his worth? It is the thing Ryan likes.
  17. Trading Span and Revere for the future I think spoke volumes about the FO thinking they needed a rebuild. They did not have to say it. They thought they could be competative, but that is different than what happened and winning divisions.
  18. Burdi might be very good. I think the team will be happy they kept the pick. Eades I am not so sure about. The question becomes what sort of players gravitate towards non winning teams. Players with a demand problem. Look at how basketball free agency goes. If there is winning, there are players willing to take a cut. If the team loses, there are players that want out. Not all, but enough to shrink the pool significantly. I use basketball as an example because they are a lot more open about their negotiations.
  19. Since 2010 I do believe that the Twins are below average in days lost on the dl. There is not anything that I can find regarding the top prospects, though. Some of the internet site geniuses out there should be able to come up with that.
  20. What makes the Twins unlucky is the draft. Since the turn of the century it has been Kubel and Dozier as the only two later round draft picks that have produced multiple seasons for the Twins. Drafted pitchers, they had a run with Garza Baker, Slowey and Blackburn. Maybe Gibson will stick, but one in a long period of time for starting pitchers is not good. All of the supplemental picks, so far Perkins is the only one who made it.
  21. If the Nix agreement is enforced they lose 2 first round draft picks. The integrity of the deals may be forgotten by the general public, but not the agents dealing with the Astros.
  22. Adding the equivalent of Alex Gillingham because that is all you are offered does what for your team? Sometimes a trade is doing nothing. Doing nothing as opososed to doing something that is nothing may be a better thing.
  23. The thing is a good GM is difficult to find. Collettii was an assistant GM, Duquette and Dromboski were available because of ownership changes. Jocketty was avaiable for the Reds because he was an irritant to the St Louis owners. Hiring from within has its pratfalls. For every Bean there is a Smith or two. It is not fresh ideas as much as hire someone with a clue on how to succede
  24. Whata do you mean it is not going to happen? People are clammoring for "fresh" ideas. Colletti has an unlimited budget. Ryan or anyone else should beable to win with that. Epstiet took over the Cubs about the same time Ryan restarted. If only getting the minor leauge fixed and not the MLB team, then Ryan gets a fre pass Sabean was hired from within the Giants, people want from outside the organization. Dombroski was hired by the Tigers to be the CEO, not GM. He started with the Tigers in 2001. Also 1 playoff in the first 9 years. That leaves Duquette that came from an outside organization to turn around a franchise. Now if you look at the people that came from within the organization to lead, you find a prettier story.
  25. Guerrier was brought up when the yooung arm Tonkin faltered. You can't rewrite the history. Specifically what players were blocked by Kubel and Bartlet as they had to go outside of the organization to find their eventual replacements
