  1. A long term extension for Correa will make things interesting for the infield prospects. Polanco is locked up through 2025 so does that mean it's Royce Lewis at 3rd? What does that mean for Brooks Lee and Austin Martin? Arraez has arbitration next year and while he struggles vs lefties, he is an absolute stud.
  2. I don't know who would be a better replacement but that doesn't mean an alternative shouldn't be considered. Is Rocco a good manager? Honestly, I don't know. How much say does he really have and how much of it is controlled by the Front Office. The Front Office made good moves at the deadline by getting the pitchers needed. Since then, the offense has been horrific. The Twins can't hit lefties, can't beat good teams outside of the division, are dead last in steals, and the starters can't get through the batting lineup a 3rd time without giving up multiple runs. The players play, but I just don't feel confident in Rocco knowing we haven't improved in any of the above mentioned categories. I would be ok with moving on from Rocco, unless Jim Pohlad thinks the issue is the Front Office. Things looked so bright at the end of May and then Royce Lewis got hurt and Wes Johnson left. I am still concerned they finish below .500
  3. He's been playing hurt for like the last 35 games, hence why he's played so much at DH. If you're really nitpicking WAR then I dont know what to tell you. It sucks he gets hurt, I agree. Every single person will tell you that his 4.1 WAR through 92 games played vastly exceeds his contract. He is making $9.1MM this year and is tied for 32nd in WAR. Correa is making $35.1MM this year and has a WAR of 3.2 (76th) in 99 games played. If you want to complain about Buxton getting hurt every year then that's fine, but saying he's not valuable is downright silly.
  4. Well, Nick Gordon was caught trying to steal 3rd and that isn't ideal. Buxton has the highest SB success rate of all time...yes of all time. Royce Lewis has good speed and I hope they get him stealing bases too. The Twins are never going to have the Dodgers or Yankees batting lineup so you have to be creative with situations to generate runs. That's why the Guardians are so dang good is because they take advantage of situations. The Twins are the exact opposite right now.
  5. Well, he's tied for 29th in WAR at 4.1. He is 21st in OPS. He is 8th in home runs. Does that answer why he was and is a star? Injuries are a part of the game. It sucks because when he's healthy he is probably the best CF in baseball.
  6. This. Also, to close out August the Twins play 10/13 games at home. The 3 games on the road are against the Astros so I will just plan for a sweep so that anything better is a success. Out of the 10 games at home I think they need to win 8. The Guardians have a tough finish to August but that team just finds ways to win...but that's Francona. You give them an inch and they take a mile.
  7. I was feeling really good around the end of May, but ever since Royce Lewis got hurt they have been a below .500 club and haven't really showed us much to say they are otherwise. The pitching was never good, but it has been even worse since Wes left. Throw in Correa being bad since July and Buxton's knee being in rough shape and it's hard to feel optimistic. I hope they turn it around but I feel like the Guardians are going to run away with it.
  8. My vote was 80-84 as I think 80 wins. Best case scenario would be 88 wins and that's if Correa figures it out as well as some of the arms. Worst case scenario would be 77 wins and that's with Rocco continuing to be cute with the lineup and management of the arms. I wish I felt better about the team, but they have looked so meh since Royce Lewis got hurt
  9. This was bound to happen. I thought it was going to happen much earlier but then he put together a really good month between the middle of June and July. Do what's needed to win the division...right call
  10. Why? Partly because he was starting to pitch like crap but mainly because he called out the team for pulling starters early. In 7 starts he managed to more than double his ERA which is concerning for a guy who doesn't throw heat. I do like the idea of him being a long reliever option
  11. That's awesome to see, great for Gary. Wish I could make an impact like this...very cool of him
  12. I'm not too worried about Miranda's defense when thinking about the future because he's a likely 3/4 DH candidate so he should play minimal 1B. Sano is likely done and he should be. The thing that really annoys me is we sent Moran down to make room for Mahle instead of Duffey. I realize Duffey went on a hot streak for a month, but the infatuation with him needs to go away. Moran had an era under 2 and struck out 12 per 9 innings. Why was he the sacrificial lamb? That's a dumb move. I'm over the Pagan experience. We all want him to be good but it isn't going to happen. Are we trying to win a division and trying to make the Pagan situation work? Make the moves that allow your team to win, I dont care if it means Pagan is DFA'd. Arraez, Buxton, and Correa all struggling for a month does not help. Twins haven't won 3 in a row since June and that's a joke for a team leading their division. I'm still hoping the deadline moves bring back some energy that the team had in May, but i'm losing optimism by the day.
  13. If you want to go based on splits, Arraez, Buxton, and Correa all do best batting 2nd. Buxton's second best is leadoff so I think the lineup would start: Buxton, Arraez, Correa, unsure on 4th, and Miranda at 5th because his numbers are awesome batting 5th. I disagree with the folks who think it doesn't matter as I think it absolutely does.
  14. Trading Correa would be embarrassing for the Team and Fans. Trading Gio, Polanco, or the thousand other infielders we have in the farm system would be fine by me. As long as Arraez, Lewis, Miranda, and a couple other infielders are kept then I'm good. Go address the dang pitching staff
  15. With how bad the pitching has been since Wes Johnson left, it wouldn't surprise me if the Twins finished 3rd in the Division. I'm almost to the point where I dont want to trade prospects for pitching right now because there are so many holes in the bullpen and the starting rotation. I trust 2 starters and 3 relievers...that's it. Unless they score 10 runs a game when Joe Ryan or Sonny Gray aren't starting, it could be an ugly second half.
  16. Yep, they bet big on Rendon and Syndergaard and both have failed miserably for them. Rendon hasnt ever hit 10 home runs for them...how crazy is that?
  17. Including Jake Cave actually made me lol, well done. Hate that dude, kudos
  18. I like what you're getting at, but the Yankees are literally good at everything where they dont need another team to be involved. If they wanted to get Soto they would easily make it happen as their farm system is solid. I dont know if they even need to trade for him as they will pay him whatever he wants when he's a FA anyway
  19. The one thing I feel confident in, is if there is no trade then this team will not make the playoffs. Regarding the other stuff you listed, I could see some of it happening. Stats were posted on Twitter yesterday that Archer, Bundy and Smeltzer were really the ones who struggle when facing a lineup the third time through. Smeltzer is now in the minors so why not push Gray, Ryan, Winder, and others to go 6 innings? Like CRF, the batting order changing every day bothers me and has since Rocco arrived. I strongly believe it led to their offense being horrific against the Astros because these guys need to be in a set rhythm and mindset going into the playoffs. There could be more to it and i'm just a fan, but it's just my observation.
  20. Ok, then what do you think the issue is? Since he left here are some SP stats: 26th in fWAR, 27th in ERA, 27th in FIP, 30th in xFIP, 25th in K/9, and 26th in H/9. Pitching coaches are also important for game day preparation. I think Wes was a guy who really understood how starting pitchers needed to approach their opponent that day. Again, since he left, the starters have been god awful
  21. I was joking. One can dream that we traded for a talent like Soto
  22. Trading Correa not only wont work out the way we hope for return of players, but it sets an ugly precedence on FA moving forward. He was a huge get and trading him after not even playing a full season is an ugly look. Plenty of other guys we can trade that would still generate a strong return
  23. Package him with Brooks Lee, Austin Martin, Alex Kirilloff, and SWR for Juan Soto?
  24. Go after anyone and everyone worth a damn. My worry is that we need multiple pitching pieces to win the division and win anything in the playoffs. Pitching has been a complete dumpster fire since Wes Johnson left and a lot of teams will realize this when negotiating with the Twins, so the price might be too much for us. On the other hand, we have roughly 100 infielders in our farm system so moving some youth shouldn't be a problem.
  25. You're correct, but he performs better when he plays CF vs DH CF: .224/.286/.856 DH: .209/.314/.787 Another thing I noticed is how much better he plays at Night vs. Day Games. .228/.305/.883 in Night Games and .202/.277/.753 in day games. Hopefully with these few days off the staff can really analyze players splits and make a plan for the second half of the season.
