Fans gotta realize, does a player like Odorizzi, who has said plainly he likes it here, really want to sit around for three months and see where he ends up and for what kind of contract? Don't know him, but, if a family is involved, the relocation on short notice, the stress of starting over with a new bunch of people, a new team and city -- at a certain point, you gotta say, "They paying me $17M next year? If I am smart and disciplined, that can support me the rest of my life." It's a bet on himself for sure, as next year there is no QO, but, it's also a bet on what an awesome situation he is in to just focus and do his thing -- and life will be fine.

There is something about Eddie's swing, the length of time his bat is in the zone, the strength of his wrists and lower arms, the drive to the ball... don't know how to describe it, but, it is one of a kind. Does that translate to WAR or some other statitistic? Prolly not. But, if harnessed, he could be, might be, will be, special. Story of an athlete's life I guess. "Eddie, is it in you?"

How good is Tellis behind the plate? If he's decent, you start the season with him as a back-up -- you always have Willians in the background -- but then you look at which one of Rortvedt or Jeffers is a better fit at mid-season. Sounds like Rortvedt is a defensive stud.

It's just not that complicated: Sano is below average at 3B, despite his impressive arm and surprising agility. And, he is exposed to injury at 3B. Move him to 1B and you improve the infield defense by subtraction, and protect a major asset of the lineup. Ergo: Move Sano to 1B and find a stellar player for 3B. For the naysayers: please list in order of accomplishment the number of 6'4" 280 lb 3B in all of MLB history. I can help with that. None.

Time to move Sano to 1B. Sure, a guy that big with that kind of arm at 3B is an amazing sight, but, he doesn't have the range or agility to dive and get back up -- witness the balls hit by him in the Yankees series. And, he won't help anyone once he pulls a hammy from running after foul pops. Sano to 1B, Cron given his papers. Gibson and Perez, would someone figure out their pitching performance against Central Division opponents and the rest of the league? At some point, beating up on patsies in the Central just doesn't equate to being a ML pitcher who can deal with first tier competition. Revamp around Odo and Berrios. At some point, either Buxton or Rosario has to be traded for a front-line starter.

Front Page: Now Entering Second Guess Season
Old Twins Cap replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1. Schoop ain't going to win us Game 1. Ever. 2. Waiting to pitch Odorizzi was, in retrospect, a bad decision. 3. Twins did not play well with a glove or a bat in their hand. 4. Twins did not pitch well. 5. Late season injuries to Kepler, Gonzales, Arraez, Cron, Buxton. 6. Pineda getting suspended. 7. Poor team play leading into the playoffs. 8. Yankees with the best home record in all of baseball. Add it up and it's another horrible playoff appearance. Which sucks and is mitigated, for sure, by a wonderful season that I enjoyed immensely. Get 'em next year fellas.- 56 replies

Playing the Yanks in Yankee stadium, is there a tougher venue? So, Twins laid an egg. I thought Baldelli did a good job getting different guys in the game and letting them taste the action. Baseball is about failure, and ultimately, redemption. Kepler, Cron, Arraez, Garver, Sano, Stashak, LIttel, Gibson, Berrios -- we got guys who will be hungry to prove they belong. Roll the dice again today Boys.

The Yanks are going to foul him off to death. Odorizzi will throw 100 pitches in less than five innings. That high fastball is going in the 1B stands, the 3B stands, behind the plate, down the lines. Twins will have to hit to win this series.

Twins are a good team, and they've proved it. So have the Yankees, against much stronger competition. There is no advantage either way, except, I would agree, the Yankees will get all the close calls on balls and strikes. That's just the way this works. The only thing that wins this for the Twins is they have to make plays, on defense, on swings, on the bases, in relief. Literally, we have to outplay them, and we can, but will we? That's why we watch the game.

Against Paxton, I would bet: Garver C Polanco SS Cruz DH Rosario LF Sano 3B Kepler CF Cron 1B Schoop 2B (only because of Arraez' injury) Gonzalez RF Like the length, RH/LH balance, and the power in that lineup.

Grade 1 sprain, the least severe. Kid is 22 years old and will heal quickly. He's gonna play on Friday, and we hope it rains and they don't play until Saturday.

I don't think we need to over-analyze this. Gibson ain't got it and Perez' early season success didn't translate. Pineda ain't an option. Got two decent starters. MLB, using stats/analystics, are proving that a bullpen game is a spanner, something the other team can't prepare for, predict, or even prefer. Given the Yanks RH predilection, Dobnak's lack of surrendered dingers, his overall influsterable demeanor -- as in -- "Hey, I'm not supposed to be here right now, but, what the hell, as long as I am, here, hit this you big leaguing wastrel." Dobnak or bust. And keep Graterol, Thorpe, Stashak and Smeltzer at the ready, because, playing the Yankees and throwing the guys they know how to kill, hasn't been great over the last decade plus.

Front Page: Week in Review: Closing In
Old Twins Cap replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Writing is on the wall: Sano to play 1B in 2020. Twins will need a 3B, to be in the mix with Marwin. As to why Lewis is playing CF, could be a realization that SS is not his best position, or Buxton insurance, or someone is going to get traded for Starting Pitching. With Kiriloff, Larnach, Wade, Kepler, Rosario, Buxton and Rooker -- we got a logjam even without Lewis.- 38 replies

Whacky team at this point. No real quality starters, other than Odorizzi. Injuries and suspensions pop like mushrooms the last month. Can't walk-off at home to save our life but yet, tied with Yankees for most HRs. Crummy defense. Playing the Yanks who have a trophy-room full of Twins' elimination highlights. Only good thing is that we open on the road where we have the league's best record. Mmmkay, bring it on.

So, is Dyson out for the season? Not hearing a lot about him or his injury.

Yeah, I've seen worse from Rosario than that. Why let Steve Stone be the guy that initiates all this negativity toward Rosario? Watching him this season, at first I thought Rosario didn't care. Then I thought it was disinterest in the game. Then I moved on to indifference. Then I figured he was preoccupied by other things. Now I don't know anymore, but, what a swing that guy has. If ever he makes pitchers throw him strikes, he would be top 5 player in MLB.

On the play at 3B, don't know why McCann double-clutched unless Moncada was not at the bag yet, which, if true, Wade was weighing that as part of the equation of making a break for it. I went to bed after the Anderson bomb. Three times now this season that's happened that the morning has a happy ending included.

Well we got a pennant race. Buck up Twins fans, this is what we wanted at the beginning of the year. Only bad thing is the regulars might not gain the experience of being in it. But look at the young guys getting a try-out right now. This will be organizationally strengthening, eventually. Right now it just feels lame.

Rain really stacking up next two days. For Twins, two off-days going into Cleveland for the weekend, a chance for Sano, Gonzalez, Cave, Cruz, Kepler, Dyson -- not to mention the entire pitching staff -- to rest. I'll take that. Bring on the rain.
