    Glad the Big Boys are having a good year to start because at MiLB, things are not looking good, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

    Definitely chalk that up as a Bullpen loss, maybe someone should keep track? A bit of overreach by Baldelli starting Astudillo for the 5th straight game, then putting in Vazquez before he could return the rental car from Rochester. As long as Buxton plays like he is, Twins are fine. And Garver, and Schoop, and Polanco, and Kepler.

    On Gibby nibbling.... Sure, it could be he didn't have good command or lost it after the 1st inning. But, it would be a great piece of research to correlate his Strike vs Ball percentage with other pitching metrics and see if it compares or how it compares to other MLB starters. Got to throw strikes is the way I would look at it.

    Gibby nibbling. Hope he waches the 1st inning over and over again to see the difference in approach. Throw strikes, he's fine. Nibbling results in walks and all kinds of problems. Could not throw his curve for strikes.

    Marwin has made some good picks at 3B but otherwise, looks unremarkable if not sloppy, disinterested and ineffectual. Pull it together Marwin.

    I was at the game, under the heat lamps on the third base side. I had a great view of third and the coach was definitely windmilling Astudillo to go home. For some reason Astudillo stopped, Buxton was coming to third, so Willians set sail for home and the Indians infielder just never looked up or he would have had Astudillo at the plate. But, best thing was, Buxton gave himself up at 3B in the rundown instead of trying to be Superman. Gotta take care of yourself Byron, especially in a 9-3 game.

    Only thing I noticed is Baldelli not Pinch Running for Nelson Cruz in the 9th. He waited for a full count before sending in a runner. What if someone hits the gap? Or there's a slow hopper in the hole at short and they get the force at 2B. Pretty standard move as soon as Cruz gets to 1B

    Bullpens evolve and change during the season more than any other aspect of a baseball team. Let's see what happens during the regular season, and let's see how the FO handles the gaps and deficiencies. Crissakes, guys are already throwing in the towel on 2019. They did go get Marwin when they saw the size of Miguel Sano's celebratory gash.

    On the Pressly thing, he could not throw his curve ball for strikes. Everyone knew that was his best pitch, but he couldn't get it across and so hitters laid off it. In 2018, when he located his curve, he was terrific. When he didn't, he walked guys and hitters sat on his fastball. Look at his quote, he's saying: Yeah, my curve is my best pitch but I needed to set it up with the fastball. It's not exactly analytics on Houston's part; everyone saw the same thing. But they convinced him to re-order his pitch sequence and philosophy using analytics as evidence. Giving guys confidence and a reason to change so they become successful, call that what you will, but sometimes a video is more persuasive than the knuckle-rap on the chest that says, You can do this.

    I would expect changes over the season. If Buxton swings like he is now, then he has to move up, maybe even lead off. Then what about Kepler? If he is swinging well, you use him to protect Sano/Gonzalez or Cron or Schoop, going from OBP multi-pitch guy to power bat hitting 6th, 7th or 8th. That is an intriguing line-up, and one that would not be an embarassment in the playoffs against anyone.

    That LaMonte Wade is a player. OBP guy, great eye, easy compact, quick swing. Power will play. Start making plans.

    Yeah, maybe this all works out. Sano comes back in May, hits a ton in AAA, joins the Twins and gets plenty of ABs, remarkably hits another ton, plays solid 3B and is a model teammate, running the bases, hitting to the opposite field, not trying to pull outside curve balls. OK. Wait. Sano has never done any of that. Suddenly it's obvious over the course of one more season: Sano is, in fact, a head case in a super-sized body, tries to homer on every pitch, and the rest of the time alternates between being injured, being bored and anticipating the next great party. Now what?

    Looking out my window at 30" of snow on the ground. No real break in temps through March 18th. So, it is possible that Target Field is somehow playable that week, but the rest of the Midwest is going to be buried in snow. Not sure why they think scheduling a March opener in Minneapolis is such a great idea. Hey! We can organize a ski to Target Field that day. Brilliant!

    There's a new sheriff in town. Addison was not hired on his watch. And, reading body language, Addison knows that he got 16M on a guarantee when others beggar for a job. Ain't going to persist.

    Do not bet low on Torreyes. I watched a lot of Yankees broadcasts over the last years, the diminutive one is an ace defender and a tough out. Poised and scrappy, there's a reason the Twins got him. If he proves out, Adrianza can bring a solid single A reliever prospect.

    That's quite a Tweet. Astudillo's contact rate is so outside the parameters of league-wide statistical measurement in any category as to be Top Three over decades? Did I just type that?

    Don't think of it as bounce-backs. It's career years. And career years are what championships are made of. Yes, Twins have to hope for as many players as possible to have career years. And so does every other team.

    Per Steve Adams on MLB Trade Rumors chat published on Tuesday: The Perez signing is obviously small scale, but it is one of the most baffling moves of the offseason. I don't see how he's an upgrade over any of the 6-7 in house options they already had for the fifth spot. If you're going to sign a starter, at least sign someone who is either a clear upgrade or, with the proper bounceback, could be deemed as such (e.g. Pomeranz) Twins are either geniuses or the dumbest guys in the room. Can't wait to find that out.

    They were in on Darvish last year till the end, and you see how that worked out. A franchise can spend a ton on players and have it blow up in their face. So, the best strategy is to hedge bets, spend what is prudent and pick up what looks like under-valued talent The hope is the same with home-grown talent as what you pick up on the free market. Twins will never win by out-spending New York, LA, Houston and Boston.

    Too cold for outrage this morning. Looks like a LH Opener, a la Sergio Romo. If he gets through the 1st inning, let him do two, or start him the next game. Change of pace lefty could have value at the Deadline.
