  1. Busenitz, between last year and his latest stint at AAA, has earned another chance. Magill has held his own, Reed, Rodney and Duke are safe, Hildenberger has been good, Pressly has been their best reliever, can't give up on Rogers, though he has options. In other words, there's no place for a very solid reliever. What's a Twins fan to do?
  2. With Santana on the verge, I put Lynn in the pen where his power fastball for an inning or two could be useful, if he can find the plate. Turn him into the Anthony Swarzack of 2018. As it stands, plenty of pitching headed into mid-season. Falvey and Levine have done their jobs. Now it's up to the hitters.
  3. Pressly is your best reliever. I use him to get out of that inning, instead of playing lefty vs lefty with Duke. Reed, I don't know, looks like he can pitch, but if I go back and add up all the times he has given up key hits in losses, it makes the 2-year contract feel like a burden. But, big thing is: no offense. No one can drive the ball, not Dozier, not anyone batting below Rosario, Kepler and Escobar. Sad to watch the Twins' season drift away like this, but, at least we've got young pitching now.
  4. Lefty soft-tosser on the mound for Mariners tonight. LeBlanc-ed the Twins last time. RHs need to be patient and go the other way. But, no real answers for Buxton and Sano at this point. Team stuck in neutral and no where to go unless those two get out and start pushing. Hard.
  5. Is Astudillo next on the Twins catching depth chart? And, is his defense at the dish capable of that?
  6. We have been hanging on the Buxton "will he ever hit?" meme for years, and sadly, there may never be an answer to that. Without Cleveland's mediocrity, the Twins awfulness would be so much clearer. They have some pieces, to be sure, but they are scattered like a broken urn and not even Humpty Dumpty can put them together at this point.
  7. Long term, they are short on RH bats. Garver helps, but what about a good DH who is a corner OF? Not sure they can ever count on Sano to hit the curve or stay healthy, so, perhaps RH 3B? Something has to be done to get a RH power guy. Then Polanco gets back. But, no doubt, either Buxton becomes the XB monster or ... well, the alternative is hard to consider -- the wounded hero who never succeeds.
  8. When the core of the lineup goes 0 for 12, Kepler, Escobar, Rosario, and you only score one run, you aren't going to win many games. Guys were prolly tired after a long road trip and we didn't get it done. Duke had the freshest arm, unless you want to put Fill Hughes out there. Plenty of positives to bring home though.
  9. Twins winning when not hitting particularly well, not pitching particularly well, and not playing defense particularly well. Dominated in St. Louis, but Angels' series has been about good fortune. Which we'll take. Back to .500 in a hurry.
  10. If they can get some offense, and eventual stardom, out of Buxton, this team's window for contention gets thrown wide open.
  11. Berrios is more of a thrower than a pitcher at this point. Why he can't get his curve ball to work during some starts is one of the mysteries of baseball, but even still, as a pitcher, not a thrower, you find a way to minimize the damage. He has two good fastballs and a change-up. As he matures, he will figure out what in his arsenal is working and what isn't on any particular night. Still, I bet the Twins lead the league in giving up homeruns with 2 strikes.
  12. Don't forget that the FO has stashed Michael Pineda on the roster for next year. Could be a great staff, if everyone stays healthy.
  13. Hey Minnesota! We got a team here. Fun to watch, playing good baseball. This summer will not be without entertainment after all. Thank God.
  14. Wow. Easy motion, devastating pitches. Repeatable. This is our Ace. What's his swinging strike percentage? Wow.
  15. Rosario looks bored in LF. Terrible body language. Four errors -- happy he gets the right zip code on his throws. F-Rod Experience -- throw my FB by Garry Sanchez at age 41. Leading the league in un-executed DPs. What is up with Dozier? No arm. Now going into one of those half-season funks with the bat? Go down the list, Morrison, Sano, Castro, this team is a living breathing strike-out. Soggy, slow and defeated before even taking the field. And the pitching-- Phil Hughes, Lance Lynn, Tyler Duffy-- historically bad stuff. We are so far from being able to compete with good teams, so, so far.
  16. At least the Twins turn things around. Look at Tampa Bay. They were awful, and we went into their stadium and started them on an 8-game win streak. Now they have credibility and a spot in the standings. And, the Yankees. They were middle of the road, and Twins get in there, basically give them four games of feel-good baseball, and turn them around. Now they are a monster. And the Reds, Twins throw them a lifeline. Now Toronto. Before all this, they helped Seattle get going. I'm telling you, we can turn this whole league around.
  17. Can someone go over the Garvin Alston qualifications again? Seemed like a genius move at the time. As did a lot of Falvey and Levine's decisions. 2016 all over again, this time with more talent.
  18. Garver was catching. Of 8 pitches, 7 were fastballs, one was a change-up, a swing and miss by Gregorius. In retrospect, Rodney has to throw more change-ups. Sanchez and Gregorius, both dead red guys. Twins not only playing poorly, but doing baseball dumb. Bad combination.
  19. You look at his strike and ball chart, and the strikes are getting the fat part of the plate, and the balls are not close. Most relievers, or at least good pitchers, they only touch the strike zone on the edges. That's where you need to be as a pitcher, especially in Hildenberger's case. So, lack of command. Erratic. Whatever. He's getting touched up because he's lost his touch. Twins have certainly lost their touch as a unit.
  20. Played the fewest games, seen the fewest pitches, pitched the fewest innings. Maybe this will go away with a larger sample. But.... Still painful to be a fan of this team at this point.
  21. I thought I heard Gladden on Saturday say this about Alan Buesenitz: "Just saying his name is enough to make you thirsty." Had to think about that a second. Old school Danny.
  22. Hard to win in New York for Twins. But, they have the ability this year for sure. I'm in the "haven't played well" camp. A team has to play well, get some breaks, make some breaks. If they get some decent production from Morrison, Castro, Buxton and Sano, they will be fine. If not, and other teams continue to hit above .400 when our pitchers have them 0-2, we will be in trouble.
