Well. . . no. But I'm pretty sure this is the first really hot day they have experienced this season, so that's more than nothing. That being said, they need more hitters hitting. A pitcher gives up four runs and because the Twins can't score it seems like a pitching implosion even if its not.- 27 replies

It's a lot more complicated than selling a house, so it's hardly surprising that it could take awhile. Admittedly I was a little amazed when Ishbia was identified so fast. Fingers crossed that they get it done as quickly as possible and that the new owner is a good one. In the meantime, Win Twins!

Agree 100%. However, I've been a baseball fan, and a Twins fan, long enough to know that fortunes can change quickly. Let's enjoy this run as long as we can and see if the pitchers can keep it going for a while! I'm not sure that the Twins have ever had both a rotation and bullpen this good at the same time. Rotation alone maybe never, but when combined with this bullpen (and they have had some really good ones in the past), we are witnessing something pretty historic for this team.

This is certainly an interesting option. For all of the "he's taking good at bats" talk that I hear, Lewis has REALLY struggled at the plate. Some time at AAA might enable him to get his bat and his head pointed in a good direction. Right now, Bride is probably the superior option to Lewis, even if we don't want to admit it.

Clearly the Pohlads are asking for the moon for the Twins, but I’m not sure that was really the issue for the Ishbias. I think it is equally likely that White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf saw what was happening and agreed to boost the ownership stake in the Sox because he sees someone with the deep pockets that he thinks will eventually offer him what he wants for the Sox. Add in that Justin Ishbia is building a very substantial compound (more than a house) in Chicago and it makes a lot of sense for him to prefer that choice. I’m not dismissive of the argument that the Pohlads aren’t making an attractive target out of the Twins. After all, including the accumulated debt AND asking top dollar is pretty ridiculous, but I think with Justin Ishbia, there was more to it than just that.

Agreed. If you’re watching or not watching either because of or in spite of the owners, you’re probably missing the point of baseball entirely. This team has woken up and is playing well and deserves our collective attention. Go Twins!

While that may be mostly true, an overall narrative about a “poor drawing” team definitely doesn’t help the situation. Sometimes a narrative like that takes on a life of its own.

All of this is mostly true, but where is that replacement supposed to come from? I’m not seeing anyone in the Twins system that is breaking down the door to do that. Is it POSSIBLE that one of their minor leaguers could surprise and do well at the MLB level? MAYBE, but they are probably more likely to be worse and also lack the veteran-ness that isn’t super important, but not completely useless to the team. I agree that I would love to have someone better than France at 1B, but I’m missing where those candidates are going to come from right now. It’s the “can’t replace somebody with nobody” conundrum. Yes, they could/should have spent money on someone better, but they didn’t do that, So, here we are. Enjoy the scenery of France, without wondering if a trip to Spain or Germany would have been nicer.

Agreed, especially with the comment of the Twins being fairly successful picking first basemen from the scrap heap. It’s a very large improvement from when they used to try to do that with a pitching rotation!

I was with you on most of your post, but you lost me here. Absolutely we want a strong 1 through 9 of above average hitters, but honest competition or not, it can only happen if there are 9 above average hitters available and in your team’s control. I’m not saying that there may not be a spot here or there occasionally that might be better filled internally than externally, but I think you have you may have oversimplified the matter. As for France, I would call him OK, but pretty bad for the position he plays. He’s probably been better than advertised (which was atrocious) defensively and does seem to have a knack (luck? SSS?) for hitting with runners on base. At the moment, he seems to be mostly healthy, which on this current team, is probably his most important quality. France is the country we have, so let’s enjoy the sights as best we can.

Lee and Lewis are probably the two guys who we imagine are the most realistic possibilities for stepped up offensive performance because of their perceived struggles so far, but that offensive production coming from anyone on the team is likely to have the same effect. Bader or France could get hot. Larnach or Jeffers could get really hot. Even some of the non-obvious candidates could do it — Castro, or even McCusker (!?!) or Clemons. You just never know, and that’s kind of the beauty of it.

Seems logical but do we actually know Mauer and Morneau had many concussions prior to their career altering ones? I don’t remember hearing that before.

This all made sense given the (ridiculous) constraints on the personnel situation -- and they won! Wow! Thank goodness for solid pitching right now. Otherwise they might be in the middle of a losing streak instead of a winning streak. Seems like a good time to buy lottery tickets. . .

That is the reality of the situation. If Zebby comes up and really deals, he's in and probably never leaves. More likely, he will have some success -- probably more than last time -- and some struggle and go back down for a while, with Festa/SWR taking his place. I'm very OK with that. The rotation as currently constructed doesn't need Zebby to tear it up. Just come up, be solid, and we're very happy. The good news is that these MLB tours of duty are helping to build Zebby/Festa/SWR into solid MLB starters. Ryan and Ober weren't good overnight either, but they just keep getting better.

I did. You were implying that in fact others may have done worse so therefore it wasn't so bad and then quoted players from another sport. If I have misinterpreted that, I apologize, but that is how I took it. I am willing to agree to disagree on Pete Rose, but I really don't want to exalt the guy who was publicly guilty of a number of pretty terrible things. Admittedly, his rhetoric and behavior post retirement didn't do anything to endear me to him either, so I see no redemption in that. YMMV.

Are they in the Baseball Hall of Fame? When did that happen? They really need to institute a policy that you had to play the actual sport to get in. This is a travesty! I exaggerate for effect, but the reality is that making additional mistakes after making some isn't going to help make things better.

As I said earlier, if there are people like that in the hall of fame, then putting more people in who are at least as bad (and probably worse) doesn't make the situation better. It only makes it worse. Gosh, someone blew it a few years back. . . . let's do it again! The whataboutism is what the real problem actually is. Either the rules matter, or they don't, or they don't when we don't like it.

Could be. Buxton too probably. Do we know what concussion protocol looks like in MLB? Is it a certain number of days minimum, or is it passing tests, or is it number of games? Let's just hope they are OK when they return.

Did he try to charge Manfred for the autograph? Wouldn't really be shocking in his case. He was only contrite to sell books and make one last attempt to get in. He deserves his fate. People will say "what about this guy or that guy?". I don't care. Rose was repeatedly a scumbag in numerous situations, not just while he was a manager. Putting more people like that in doesn't make it better. It only makes it worse.

Let's see. It took Shoeless Joe Jackson how long after his career (and death) to be reinstated before being considered for the HOF? Let's have Pete Rose wait that long as well. I would prefer never, but I'm willing to compromise.

Indeed. Considering some of the sorry pitchers we've trudged out there with in the past, probably 8 years out of 10 we would be thrilled to have him as our #5 (or #4 -- some years, #3). We've just gotten a little spoiled lately. I just hope it stays that way.
