  1. It was nice to see Dalton Hicks continue his extra base hit streak. He is seeing every pitch well this short season. He has always walked alot and shown excellent plate discipline. When he strikes out - he strikes out on true strikes swinging. It was nice to see Adam Brett Walker II hit his first HR of the season. I heard it was on a 95 MPH fastball off batters eye. Nice to see. Walker has been hitting the ball much better this short season (contact), but just at people. Strike out rate down to 18% so far. Three hard hits yesterday, but 2 at CFer and one over the fence. When Kepler shows up - Kernels should only increase their power numbers. Can't wiat. I am chalking yesterday's loss up to 5 games in 48 hours. Hopefully they re-charge their motors for todays double header, and get a sweep out of it. Defense has to pick up and mental focus must improve young Kernels.
  2. I was going to mention "Mention" too. I find it amzing that so many college teams have less than 1 African American on their teams. Most college coaches probably want to make sure that those individuals that they do scholarship (AA) have plenty of contact and associations with white players in their high school years. Comfortability is every Coach and Employers main interest. Will this minority candidate fit in to my everyday world. "Change is good until it causes me too much change" - That's where the world has to change.
  3. African Americans are African Americans. Just because a person from the DR or Cuba is dark in complexion doesn't make them African American (even if they become U.S. citizens). Ortiz and Oliva aren't confused about their heritage. If people want to know if a person is African American - Just Ask Them - They'll tell you . Best way to find out. I thought it was a very thougt provoking article. Baseball is probably not much different than most folks work places. Very few African Americans and not much daily thought about how isolated those individuals may feel at work. Not saying that makes folks thoughtless - It's just the probable reality of life and the work place.
  4. Again great read and I think Coach Mauer and his staff seem like the perfect group for these young kids. Go Kernels
  5. Another great read. I often wondered if coaches teach prospects how to adjust to various pitchers or what to expect from certain pitchers or do they expect them to make adjustments on their own? I often hear that scouts & coaches want to see kids make adjustments on their own. This is the only sport where I don't hear about coaches coaching hitters to make adjustments in a game. You see pitching coaches at the mound calming down / talking about adjustments, but you never see an emphasis on coaches in the dugout explaining about adjustments batters need to make. You never even hear coaches discuss postgame how they helped a player make an adjustment from AB to AB? Just curious if you could ask about that some day when you have a chance to interview again. Are players taught how to adjust from AB to AB? Are they taught what mindset they should approach each game with? Etc.? Etc. In football a quarterback may be taught to take the short routes and march the field because of an opponents objective. Or he may be taught to look deep? In basket ball it may be taught to feed the ball inside for this opponent or launch the 3's? Is baseball taught that way from game to game or is it "Do You" and let's see what happens?
  6. One of the better Q&A's I've read. Well done. Can't wait to see rest of interview. Did you interview Tommy and Lucas as well? or is that another time?
  7. Maybe it will be Buxton or JD Williams - Both guys are as fast as anyone in the Twins organization and have a feel for stealing bases. Maybe it will be an individual noone expects like - Adam Brett Walker II who was 40 for 41 in stolen bases in college and 7 for 7 as a pro. He's not as fast but maybe luckier . Speed or Lucky? We might have to wait a couple of years for the boys to arrive . Oh Yeah Niko Goodrum has the knack and Dalton Hicks is 100% in stolen bases for his career.
  8. I think an Anderson or Manea or Stanek (possible number 3's) are better candidates than the 2 OFers who might be everyday players but not stars. I would rather take a chance on the Pitcher than the high upside OFer (Not Buxton projected great OFer). Sign below slot and get projected unsignable high schooler with extra money on next pick.
  9. This team is built to win and only knows winning from its time in the minor leagues (Appy and Beloit). The key is going to be how do they handle failure if they start to lose? What is their mental toughness when / if they start losing? I believethey handle itlike the winners that they are and bounce right back.
  10. Does Chris Anderson have the stuff to be a #2 starter in MLB and do you trust his upside enough to make him an early top 10 pick?
  11. Since Jim and Seth were both at the "Meet the Kernels" event and practice - Who are some of the guys that impressed you in BP (I know it's only BP)? Could you judge the athleticism of some of the guys from their defensive portion of practice or base running in practice?
  12. Any idea on a lineup for tonights game. Who are the favorites to play where and hit where?
  13. I agree Buxton is the guy. He won't be a player to watch because everybody will already be watching him. I hope people don't put to many expectations on the kid and allow him to grow into his 5 tool potential. He like all prospects, are a work in progress. One of my points was that while everyone is watching Buxton do his thing - watch the ABW stat line sneak up on ya. Same for my other choices in their respective levels.
  14. I am curious as to who - each of you see as breakout "Players to Watch" at each minor league level. Elizabethton - Besides new 2013 draft prospects - I see Joshua Burris as the player who should have moved up a level and as the player who will still impress. Cedar Rapids - Adam Brett Walker was Top 5 in Appalachain League in HRs (1st)- Runs Scored (4th) - RBIs (4th) - Total Bases (5th) - Triples (tied with 3rd). He is my stat line prospect for the MWL in 2013. If he controls his SO totals (2nd) - the upside could be off the charts. Fort Myers - DJ Baxendale is one of the best pitchers in the system. He like Matt Tomshaw, have the ability to throw strikes and still keep batters off balanced. I'm going with whichever guy has the most innings pitched at this level. New Brittan - Danny Santana has the flare and ability to become a solid SS in our system. This is the year he takes his game to a new level (Defensively & Offensively). Nate Roberts is my "2nd" choice if he ends up in NB. Rochester - Chris Herrmann becomes the catcher of the future with his performance this season. He will put together a complete season on both sides of the ball. He will slug closer to .500 this year and improve on his already impressive double totals and run scored totals (100+ this season).

  16. Matt Tomshaw was very good in his short stay in Fort Myers (Miracle) 2 years ago during draft year. He was then sent to Beloit for the beginning of the 2012 season and pitched extremely well while healthy. I was told he had an excellent spring training and is now moving to bullpen. Why would and should he be sent to CR? He deserves to be in Ft. Myers based on performance and age in my opinion. He is my under the radar pitcher for 2013. He almost always has a productive outing. 4 to 5 pitches and throws srikes!! Anyone with a career 2.92 ERA deserves a chance to fail moving forward..............
  17. Nice postings, but why would you sell out the bus driver. If he in fact said that about Sano - he obviously wouldn't want it posted on line. Bad move Bob.
  18. Saw my first and only minor league games today with my kids. Headed east for holidays. I wanted to see 2012 ETown players again. Heard and / or Saw: *Heard Buxton played well in MLB start yesterday and he looked so fast stretching out triple today. *Heard pitching has been outstanding and should be great at A and high A this season. *Goodrum is said to look very good at shortstop this spring - played alot of High A earlier. *Heard Polanco was playing SS alot and Pimentel 2B. Pimentel looked good today on defense. *Adam Walker is said to be having a strong spring training. Something like 2 Hrs / 2 Triples / 5-6 Doubles. Making much better contact. Looked fast tagging from 1st to 2nd today. *DJ Hicks continued where he left off in ETown with a Hr down rightfield line today. *Always thought Arias was a key part to helping pitchers look good. Still good defensively. *Was looking for Kepler as well but came away disappointed. *Hoping Romy Jimenez stays healthy and plays like he did last year. Sleeper! Cedar Rapids is getting a great group of kids this season. They have a visible bond.
  19. I trust experts too, but want more information before I rule another guy out. I kept hearing posters rave reviews about Appel and never heard why they liked him other than the experts say he's worthy of a number 1 pick. I just wanted information supporting those thoughts like Appel has 3 pitches at this rate and Anderson only has 2 pitches of significance, etc., etc... That made for good reading. I like to know why one prospect stands out over another and then decide if he's worthy of this pick or the next. Good stuff. I would only want the MN kid if he's worthy as well. If close, I also want the kid who wants to be in MN.
  20. Who won the A/A+ game? Did anyone score and how? Did Sano impress again and were there any bombs (Sano / Vargas)? You left me assuming A+ won, becasue you said they were going to score some runs this season. I try not to ass u me (just kidding)
  21. As the Devils Advocate: Why would you chose Appel? What has he shown "You" that you would select him ahead of Anderson? What do "you" know that would make him a sure fire Top 5 pick over Anderson? I believe most people want to go with what the experts say because they won't feel as bad if/when they miss. They can say everybody was wrong. What is the can't miss ingredient Appel has over Anderson? Neither had amazing stats before this year. Please share your reasoning for your sure fire pick? Whomever it may be?
  22. Chris Anderson had another shut out performance (3-0) over Stetson Friday night. He lowered his era to 0.96 and has 60 strikeouts on the season thru 47 innings pitched. He also has allowed only 8 BBs and holding opponents to .177 BA. He nearly has twice a many strikeouts to hits allowed (60 / 31). Top 5 nationally in Ks.
  23. heard game on MLB station and it sounds like Hicks and Sano had some flashy plays defensively. Future sounds brighter than some of these post offer regarding Sano at 3rd. Not that he can't go on an error streak, but he also showed some hope and a skill set for the position. Like the radio announcer stated - Jeter had 54 errors during his first year in A ball. Sano just needs reps and time.
  24. Since you were at the minor league games today: I heard that several MLB Twins played in minor league games today. Were there any bombs hit today? How were their performances in these games and did any minor leaguer stand out?
